Meet the MAS54B. Not a 49, but one of its parents.

The successor of the Mas49/56 was to be the MAS62, but it was considered inferior to the FAL and G3, therefore the money went elsewhere and works on the Famas F1 began in the same time small bore rounds entered service with the US M-16.
