Are high end "custom" 1911's worth the money?
You can buy so much more with $2000 or whatever they charge.
>>31839055
For the common man? No. The difference between a $600 1911 and a $2000+ one barring aesthetics is too minute for a anyone but a dedicated 1911 collector to tell.
>>31839055
High end 1911s are safe queens. The tolerances are too tight and they fuck up. A good 1911 is supposed to be loose.
>>31839055
desu if youre going to blow 2k on one why not spend 7k and get it actually custom? buy from volkman or whatever and have an heirloom
>>31839124
>the guns are made too nicely, theyre like aks! gotta be loose so the parts can move around a bunch, makes it work better

>the guns are made too nicely, theyre like aks! gotta be loose so the parts can move around a bunch, makes it work better
Exactly. If you have shit too tight, when it heats up, it locks up. Expansion and contraction. I'm not saying that they have to be rattle can loose, but they can't be super tight either.

I couldn't tell you for sure as I have never shot one, but I'm guessing it won't cut $1,500 worth of seconds off of a shooter's course time compared to a Springfield or something. If you want a finely crafted, beautiful gun, go for it, but don't expect any practical improvement over a 1911 that's $1000 cheaper.
I saw some AR-15s at the store today that made me ask the same question. They were priced at around $3,000. They were really nice looking with custom milled lowers and all, but I can't imagine they were much better functionally than a $2,000 rifle.
>>31839107
This. My friend let me shoot his Dan Wesson, and it was nice, but I couldn't tell any difference between it and my sr1911. He was noticeably butthurt afterward.
>>31839238
Just get a SCAR at that point

>>31839176
>>31839238
So what 1911 do you recommend?
>>31839055
Nope. The fact that they give you a boner is the sole justification for their existence.
>>31839413
Because you're probably noticeably retarded
>>31839791
Whatever the fuck you want buddy. Buy a 1911 like anything else. Make a list of features you want and your price limit, find what fits the bill, then narrow it down by reading reviews. If you want a high end custom 1911 go ahead.
>ITT: sour grapes
They are worth it it you are planning to compete in any kind of centerfire bullseye competition. There just isn't anything short of a X-6 supermatch that can hold X as consistently.
Most of them required long break-ins and are too tight for fighting with desert dust around. Under normal conditions, a lot will be as reliable as any other 1911 once broken in.
It's like the difference between a g-shock and a high end mechanical watch.
i'd love to get the chance to shoot a "high end" 1911 someday. to see how it feels compared to a sub $1k rendition.
>high end
sometimes
>"custom"
nope.
>1911's
nope.

Auto Ordnance

COLT
I just ordered a Dan Wesson Valor. Should be here in a couple of days.
>>31843237
You did well. Very high quality without going expensive retarded.
>>31843314
I bought it drunk and didn't find out until I started getting shipping notices in my email.
>>31843387
topkek
>>31839055
I bought an M1911 clone for $565 on sale and it outshoots my pal's Kimber 1911 which can't shoot more than 2 rounds without jamming or FTF. No idea how it compares to a Colt M1911 though, but I don't really care.
>>31843425
Kimber is shit in general.
>>31843425
Kimber was good in like 1995. They are complete shit now.
>>31843451
Is Kimber Taurus in disguise?
>>31839055
haven't shot it with its new grip due to work and Hurricane Matthew, but this is about $3k of 2011.
>>31843492
what it used to look like.
>>31843555
>>31843492
holy shit did you have to swap the grip out because your hands became swiss cheese or what
that's so unbelievably tacky you should honestly be shot for it
>>31843492
The fuck is this
>>31843576
i got the metal grip because it added about 15 ounces of weight to the gun right where it needs weight.
and yes, the metal grip is very grippy.
>>31843588
>needing extra weight in a 1911 so you can hold it
i understand you're recovering from the police breaking your arms tyrone, but come the fuck on
>>31843598
a heaver bottom end dampens recoil so i can have faster splits.
it's a competition gun in case you haven't figured out already.
>>31843609
are you competing to see who can put the most money down on something and have it look shitty?
>>31843617
maybe i don't really care how it looks so much as how it performs.
