Should I just fucking buy a Mossberg 500 already?

OP, I was in your position awhile ago.

The answer is yes, get a shotgun already and round out your arsenal.
>>
>>31821850
Yep

>four handguns
>no rifle
OP you and I are very alike

Yes.
They're cheap, versatile, and reliable. Also sexy IMO.

>>31822323
grab an SKS while they're still cheap.
Or an actual AK if you can get one for a good price.

OP reporting. Here's my most recent acquisition, an 18.5" Mossberg 500 12-gauge.

What should I do to it? I can't just have a gun and not modify it. I was thinking a longer barrel so I can take it hunting at some point, and maybe a longer tube for more funtime at the range.
>>
>>31822568
Not him, but I was looking to buy my first full powered rifle soon. I already have a 10/22 carbine, would I be better off with an SKS or a mosin?
The rifle would be used for pretty much everything, from targets to hiking in the desert.
>>
>>31823637
You'll definitely want an SKS.

They're pretty swell and have very little kick
>>
>>31823637
Mosin aren't worth it anymore if you want cheap Centerfire look at like a Savage axis or ruger American in .223 or .308
>>
You should just buy a shotgun, yes. Doesn't have to be a 500 but they're good.

>>
>>31821850
This rust tho
>>
>>31823613
ATI folding stock with pistol grip, shell carrier on folding stock, shell carrier on side, sling, and I personally like a fiber optic sight clipped onto the from bead. That's everything I have on mine.

Also maybe a heat shield. Mine came with one, and I've never fired a shotgun without one, so I don't know how much of a difference they make.
>>
>>31823613
Recommend a minimalist approach to shotguns. I don't do anything except change the furniture and add a small red dot because beads are annoying for anything other than birds or clays.
>>
>>31821850
Go with a Benelli Nova. They're 4x better than any 500, 590 or 870.

Tube extension if you want the extra shell capacity and maybe a different stock if you're into that. The longer barrel is a must if you want to do some hunting.

Other than that, you could also go full retard and slap on a side saddle, aftermarket heat shield, ghost ring sights, and maybe one of those foregrips that have a laser or flashlight built in.

All that being said, enjoy your new scattergat.
>>
>>31823613
>longer barrel
>longer tube
Maybe you should have bought a 20" eight shot model in the first place, or a barrel combo

sounds like you impulse bought something and immediately wanted to unfuck yourself
>>
Get yourself a cheapo pistol grip one. Buy magpul stock and change out the fore-end if you want. I find the side saddle is a cheap and ESSENTIAL upgrade. It doesn't really need anything else, and now you can leave it in "Pistol length" for home defense if that's your fancy and then throw the stock on it for hunting/sport shooting/funs etc. IMO this is the best bang for the buck to max out what you can get with a shotgun
>>
>>31823613
I see you already got it.

Essential upgrade: Extra 5 shot side saddle. Receiver mounted.
Optional upgrades: Magpul furniture, stock mounted saddle, a rail and MSI red dot combo would be good (or a holosun circle optic), and I don't remember if there's a good mag extension out but if there was a GOOD one out I'd get it. I rely on my saddles and can load very fast with little practice.

essential upgrade sling thats the only fucking thing you need

I'm looking for a shotgun to SBS in 14in, do I grab the 870 or the 500?
>>
>>31821850

Yes, though I ended up getting the 930JM instead, and I'm enjoying muh semi auto.
>>
>>31824925
The ability to turn from buckshot to slug with a shotgun is essential. Can only really be done with a side saddle effectively. That ability is more important than anything else.
>>
>>31821850

I just bought a Maverick 88 because they had one in the store, I didn't have a shotgun and I'm cheap.

How bad did I fuck up?

I'm not planning on using it that much for hunting, I just wanted a basic shotgun for shtf lest I need to hunt random critters.

Get one of these.
>>
>>31826123
You did fine. Mavericks run pretty well.
>>
>>31826123
Best shotgun on the planet right now. Every home should have one.
>>
>>31825438
the nice thing about it is it fits the bayonet lug on the ar-15 as well.
>>
Yes, also if you're in AZ, I have a 500A w/ 20" barrel and pistol grip w/ adjustable stock that I'll sell you.
>>
>>31825609
i really like my 930 as well. although i have found cleaning the gas piston to be a tedious affair. still, super fun to shoot!
>>
if you arent poor get a 590a1 20in for a few more hundos dipshit
>>
>>31821850
I'm in the same boat OP. I have 2.5 rifles and 3 handguns. Never got around to buying a shotgun. I should really buy one already.

Can Mossberg 500's be used for trap and skeet shooting? I know nothing about shotguns.
>>
>>31824747
>not living in a state where a gun can be bought in two hours or less.
>>
>>31823613
Wood furniture and a barrel shroud.
>>
>>31824672
It's a waste of money to buy a Benelli unless you're buying a nice one. My mossberg 500 has ~7.5k shells through it and I've never literally never cleaned it. It still shoots just fine.
>>
>>31826326

Absolutely. I have the full-autist 18.5 inch breacher's barrel and I can still shoot clays pretty damn well (about 5 out of 6, usually)
>>
>>31826776

I bought one randomly today when I went to get my dog a bath and discovered a gun store next to the pet store.

Neither... You get a m4 like that one

>>31826793
Same. I actually shoot clays better with my 18.5 inch mossy than I do with my actual bird gun...
>>
>>31824672
This

The Nova is a great shotgun, and if you get the model with the ghost ring sights, you'll have a real fun time at the range. Best feature that I have not seen on any other shotgun in this price range is that magnetic feed ramp, I used to hate shotguns because the feed ramp would cut up my thumb cuticle
>>
>>31826852
Mossberg 590 has no loading gate to catch your thumb.
>>
>>31826852
My brother has the Super Nova and I fucking hate it. Would rather use my standard 500 over it every day. The ergonomics / controls on the Nova are retarded and in the wrong place, and it has this autistic looking "chevron" stock that's supposed to reduce recoil but doesn't actually do anything other than collect dirt and shit inside the gaps.

The ghost ring sights on it are okay if you're into slugs, but for shooting birds I much prefer a bead.

The mossman is half the price (or less) and better designed.

You should get one.
I only paid like $50 for my Ontario M7 for my SP.
>Wish there was a modern sword bayo option.
>>
>>31821850
I love mine.
Bought it used at a pawn shop. Mariner version with additional 24 inch barrel.
Cost 289.
>>
>>31826298
This. Get a 590A1, but I'd say go with the 18.5" and get a +2 mag tube extension, it has a better balance than the 20"
>>
>>31823613

Eh, if you were going that basic (which I'm in favor of), I would have just got the Maverick 88 or NEF Pardner Protector.

Shotguns need just two things:

1. Sidesaddle shell carrier (the cuffs don't work, a small one 4-5 shells)
2. Sling (long guns without slings are like not having a holster for your pistol).

I also always have:

WML (necessity for me)
Tritium Front Bead.

Everything else is just extra weight or crap.

Oh yeah, Use Federal Flight Control or whatever Hornady's "Flight Control" is called for ammo...

Slugs are slug, I like Federal TruBall.
>>
>>31826783

Fucking hot.
