How are the RUs able to produce weapons so cheaply?

>M270 MLRS costs $2.3m per unit
>a single M26 rocket costs $15,000
>a MGM-140 SSM guided missile costs $280,000
>a BM-21 Grad costs $2,500
>a 122mm rocket costs $1.75
>you can field literally 920 BM-21s for the cost of a single MLRS, which is fifty battalions worth of rocket artillery
>you can buy 8700 grad rockets for the cost of a single US rocket
>you can buy 160,000 grad rockets for the cost of a SSM guided missile

how is any of this remotely cost effective for the US?
>>
>>31819354
You don't have to be cost effective when you have the world's largest GDP.
>>
>>31819370
sure, but if you have ten MLRS systems ready to fire and the enemy is shooting back with nine thousand BM-21s you're kind of hosed
>>
>>31819354
>MGM-140 SSM
>comparing a theater ballistic missile to a rocket
>comparing the MLRS to a truck with rockets strapped to the back
Is this a troll thread?
>>
>>31819354
Cheap 60s tech mate
>>
>>31819392
>comparing the MLRS to a truck with rockets strapped to the back
Isn't MLRS just a truck with rockets?
>>
>>31819354

>comparing a 122mm rocket to a 227mm rocket
>comparing a rocket with 20km range to a rocket with 45-84km range

A better comparison would be to the Smerch or Uragan. Russia also has the advantage of much lower labor costs over the US.
>>
>>31819385
Infantry exist and need supply lines.

tl;dr you're retarded.
>>
>>31819354
>a 122mm rocket costs $1.75

Factory new, made today? Nope.
>>
>>31819404
No I believe its a whole artillery suite with fire control, computers, comm gear and navigation n shit.
>>
the bm-21 is older and less advanced for one
>>
>>31819431
Not to mention one M270 can cover a square kilometer with submuntions.
>>
>>31819505
pretty sure nine hundred bm-21s can do more than a square kilometer
>>
>>31819518
Pretty sure your math is way wrong.
>>
>>31819354
Those are surplus price, and even then you'd either know Putin personally to get that price

A brand-new Smerch cost about the same as M240. Prolly abit less (because of cheaper labor cost and less sophisticated launcher vehicle) but there's no way you could buy one for a couple of grand
>>
guided vs unguided
superior quality control vs inferior
100k$ a year workers vs 1000$ a year

and of course the whole point of the military industrial complex in the US is paying extra to keep companies in business & maintain industrial capacity
>>
>>31821061
wouldn't it be cheaper then to outsource production to china? they already make our phones, may as well have them make rockets too
>>
>>31822122
Except for the problem of handing your war production to another nation, which is kinda a bad idea unless you have a established alliance and a major land border (to avoid being cut off by enemy advances or blockades).
>>
>>31819354
>a 122mm rocket costs $1.75
In 2005 HE rounds for BM-21 costed $218, HE round with prox fuse $1275
DPICMround for Uragan - $8700
DPICM round for Smerch - $80299
>>
>>31819354
Hmmmm where does all that money go?

Really makes you think

State owned corporations organized for making weapons for state. Not private companies organized for making profit to shareholders.
>>
Because the average monthly wage in Russia is $291
>>
>>31819518
Where do you plan to get the manpower for nine hundred BM-21s? Don't forget to train, feed, cloth, maintain medical, and the plethora of other factors of having a standing army.
