You don't get it. That gun can be converted back to it's normal state at any time. So abiding by the current law while your gun sits in a safe means nothing. Laws can be changed/you can move/etc.

I'm thinking about getting a Mini-14 to dodge all those bans. What do you gents think about it?
I don't intend on engaging past 200yds, and it gets the job done.

Pros are, I don't have to gimp it like I would an AR or my AK, and it's reliable.
Cons are, it takes proprietary mags

A couple reasons.

1) The platform is used by the US military meaning there are literal tons of surplus and aftermarket parts/accesories/ammo.
2) Extremely modular, meaning it can be bent to your will and made to fit your exacting specifications.
3) They look cool.

There are plenty of other reasons, but those are what I would imagine are the primaries.

Well, since it's a 5.56 you can't have too hard of a spring or it won't cycle. And if you don't have a hard enough spring, it won't recoil especially if not lubed enough because of the drag on the curvature. At least that's how I imagine it, I could just be wholly wrong. But it doesn't sit well in my mind.

I have one.

They are under appreciated rifles because they have to compete with ARs, and AR fanboys will shit on anything that is .223 and not an AR. Mini-14s are great rifles in their own right, I've never had any issues with mine. I find it accurate enough, you'll definitely be able to hit targets out at 200 with factory irons.

I only have two issues. It's a bit expensive for what it is, and there is no reason it shouldn't take AR mags aside from Ruger being Jewish.

You need to modify your bolt carrier, but the lower comes with the modification and it should work on any standard bolt carrier. Aside from that, just slap an upper on it and your gold.
