So I do like the APF I mention before over the DPMS ad.

But looking at my lgs they do have a Armalite AR10 but in 16" for 1100, I dunno if its better off getting new than a used one, since people mention the pickiness of the AR10 platform.


I know I can build my own AR10, but I haven't even build an AR15 so I don't think I should start off with the AR10 build yet, but at the same time I need to get an AR soon before CA's shitty law comes into effect next year.

I can't attest to either from personal experience, but I can tell you you have no idea what unholy bubba-ings that APF may have been subject to. The Armalite is pure and untouched, and as such means you will have a factory gun assembled by competent people. Now that's not a dig against builds, considering all my AR-15s have been builds, but it is a knock against your average normie building a "badass" gun from Franken parts, then realizing guns cost money to shoot, and selling it. Add in the fact that AR-10s are kinda funny about building if you don't stick to one style of parts, and you've got potential for a shitty version of a good gun. If your gut says the APF is good enouvh, go for it. Otherwise, I may shell out extra for a factory AR-10.

Picked up the m&p sport 2. I want to change out the rail so I can put a front grip on it, and I want a red dot site. What are my best non-break the bank options here?

It is. I like it. Kinda heavy, though. The reticle isn't as cluttered as you'd think when you're shooting at distance. Up close its easy to use the horseshoe like an Eotech reticle to group a target in the big ring and fine tune with the dot.

I think having a non QD scope and BUIS is kinda stupid unless you're using canted irons. I'm using an ADM recon and like it.

best is very subjective. 14.5 shoots soft with midlength gas but you "have" to pin and weld a md on it, 16" is most common, 18" is a nice compromise between 16 and 20, 20 and up have the most superior ballistics but obviously weigh more and arent as mobile.

I'd go 16 or 18 personally. what is the primary role of the rifle? all bench shooting? going to take it innawoods? home defense? are you trying for a particular aesthetic like a military inspired look?

Good morning gents.

My AR started short-stroking after I changed the barrel. I don't know if the problem is that gas system alignment/apertures or the overall weight of the buffer+BCG.

I started with a PSA carbine lower with a 18" barrel, a full auto BCG, midlength gas tube and everything was fine.
I switched the carbine buffer to an A2 rifle buffer set, and everything was fine.
I switched to a 20" barrel, rifle gas length, switched the gas tube, but kept the same gas block and I started short stroking, using the same ammo brands as before (Federal 55gr and Prime 77gr).

So:
-Did I misalign the gas ports?
-Is the full auto BCG+ rifle buffer too heavy for a rifle length gas system?
-Do the gas ports need to be enlarged?
-Should I just cut some coils off the spring?
