I don't know about it being the best. But cad pat it's basically digital woodland. Which exists cause up close, it's got the sharper lines that convey detail better, and at a distance, they blend to look a bit like your woodland.

I was born in 1988, I grew up knowing Woodland as the standard Camo. I used to flip through Sportsmans Guide catalogs looking at all the different camos. Browsed the local surplus store. I had a full BDU set and my brother had a full Alpenflage set. We used to sneak around playing commando and get into trouble and shit.

Then MARPAT happened and I thought it was awesome. The future. Today don't think it's bad, like the color choices, but now that I've had more years on this planet earth and seen so many more camos, I still, like OP, go back to Woodland as the standard do-all camo, except deserts obviously, but I'm thinking like an American in American environments. DPM is pretty good too....but as far as personal favorites Flecktarn is best tarn. It just doesn't have the nostalgia

Blows out of the water is a pretty strong assessment. They're similar enough, but I feel like the colors of DPM are a little too bold, and the pattern a little too swirly/tangly, for lack of better words. Still damn fine, but I'd say Woodland just edges it out. As an American I am of course, biased
