CZ thread.

I used to work the CZ custom shop. If you bought one of these in the last year or so I worked on it. Along with some other guns.

I think I remember you on here when you worked there.

For someone with a vanilla P-01, other than sights, what's another thing on it I should get worked on or swap for?

Well you could send it in for trigger work. Get the insides polished always helps. Different grips, maybe a hammer.

If you really want to spend some cash get the Protek work done it. I'm good friends with the guy that does all the work on them and honestly the Protek is probably the nicest carry gun on the planet.

Do they offer the CTS in 9mm?

I want one that has that frame style. It's like a PCR but full-sized.

I've only ever handled one, never got to shoot one, but for me I remember having an annoying time with the slide release I think, I believe it was an issue to the P-07/09s where it's just barely reachable by my thumb without changing my grip and then what is reachable isn't aggressively textured enough to be easily manipulated at all. Otherwise it's one of the few all-metal single stack subcompacts currently produced, and it feels absolutely solid and comfy in my hands. If they slide release wasn't so hard to deal with, I'd probably get one, and I'd definitely have gotten a suppressor-ready P-09 by now if they didn't have the same issue.

>>31769889
I was the guy that did all the work on those frames and honestly it's a fair price.

They start life as regular TS frames and then get the fake checkering ground off and then the front of the slide is shortened with a band saw and then I would clean everything up by hand with a grinding wheel, dremel, and sand paper. Also the high cut+dehorning that gets done on them. They really are nice guns but those frames are expensive for a reason.

Some of the compacts are aluminum but the full sizes are steel. The reason you don't see too many of them blued is because they're cast and often of pits that would look more obvious when blued. They say that if you wanted 1000 perfect blued guns you'd have to cast 3000 frames.

you can actually tell on mine in this pic >>31771158

There's a slight smudge at the front of the frame and that's just part of the frame I couldn't polish or brush it out no mater what. With that in mind I started with a nice one that came from the SP-01 Orange/Canadian team gun production run.

Does the curvature of new CZ 75 triggers can vary from model to model, and if so, is this by design, or by accident? I recently picked up a serrated trigger originally for the PCR from CZ-USA's parts store. When I put it into my 1994 CZ 75 Compact, it just didn't feel right. The PCR trigger seemed to pinch the bottom of my finger in a way that other (new production) CZ 75 triggers don't do.

There are a variety of triggers out there on the market but generally they will come with a 85 combat trigger on new models as far as I know. They should all be the same as far as dimensions go. Sometimes they have over travel screws which can be a adjusted that's the only difference I can think of that any given stock pistol would have compared to another.

In general I would just go with a 85 combat and try to find one without the screw (I know they're going to start being made but not sure if they're for sale yet) and just get it fit by a gunsmith. Or fit it yourself if you want I could tell you how.

Those serrated triggers aren't that great I don't think we ever used them for anything when I was working at the shop.
>>
>>31772120
I was hoping that the serrations could help my short-ish fingers get a better purchase on the double action trigger pull. Is the 85 Combat trigger different from any of the other versions of the trigger in any way? There are half a dozen listed on CZ-USA's webshop in the parts section.
>>
>>31772155
I've found that I can shoot CZ's a little better if use a more unconventional trigger pull where I warp my finger around the trigger a little more then I would on most guns maybe you could try that.

Honestly I doubt the serrations would all that much fun if you ever plan on shooting a lot in a single setting.

There shouldn't be a whole lot of difference between the versions the 85 is kind of just the go to trigger. It works. There is this one

http://czcustom.com/cz-parts-all/triggers/cz-75-recurve-trigger-05a.html

Forgot to mention it's meant for those with a shorter reach the curve is dipped back a bit more. I didn't really like them myself but maybe it would fit you.
>>
>>31772258
I think it might be the opposite for me. Short reach metal triggers that have a deeper curve would probably pinch the bottom of my finger in the way that the PCR trigger did. My fingers aren't exactly fat, but there's something about the angle they come into the trigger guard on a CZ 75 that makes a shallower curve feel better.

>Also yes Kriss licensed the design.

I find that very hard to believe. KRISS bought Sphinx for their expertise, reputation & designs.

Sphinx has been making guns which are a blend of the CZ75 with a Sig Sauer for decades. CZ75 ergonomics, with Sig Sauer-style locking system as well as a modular 2 piece frame.

And now that CZ finally dropped the retarded barrel locking lugs and went with chamber locking, you're saying Sphinx licensed their latest offering from you? That seems very fucking far fetched. Even the Sphinx 2000 already used that, and the Sphinx SDP is basically a simplified and dumbed down version of the Sphinx 3000.

I don't see how CZ has anything to do with it whatsoever. So if you have proof of any licensing deal whatsoever with Sphinx/KRISS, post it.
If not, you're full of shit.

I don't have any stats for you but that sucks. We had a few come back from time to time and we'd fix them or send them back to CZ-USA if we didn't want to bother.

like 90% of our returns had some CJW parts in them that messed something up and for some reason the customer thought that made it our fault.

Have literally no personal experience to back it up but for some reason I remember hearing that the weak point on CZs is their firing pin or firing pin retaining hardware, and that they're a gun that you shouldn't dry fire often if you can help it because of that.

Maybe unacceptable for a $2,400 model, but overall investment cast handgun frames get way more shit than they deserve. They're perfectly fine, and if you don't mind aluminum or plastic handgun frames you should be fine with cast steel ones too.

CZ has a custom shop? In your entirely unbiased opinion, how do they compare with the custom shops of other companies/skilled independent gunsmiths?
>>
>>31778795
It's no Les Baer but the shop is a very legit operation and the way it works is there's a legit gunsmith who does all the really neat stuff when needed and does his own things on the side (like building custom 1911's for people) and he also trains and supervises the rest of the gunsmiths/apprentices.

All the dudes working there are legit gunsmiths who had a bunch of prior experience except for myself, I got hired as an apprentice and was trained by him in house.

The custom shop is a weird side entity to CZ-USA so it's not like the Colt Custom shop which is a part of the main company. CZC is like an offshot that caters mainly to competition shooters but can still do anything you need them to do. They're repair any gun you send in regardless of it's origin.

>>31774756

Love the plaform, worried about the reliability for a ccw. Want a pcr and was thinking of getting the cajun gunworks pro job (having them install it...and having them do a dual tone nogard and np3 coating).

You said there were issues with cgw stuff, do you find a lot of problems with their work or was it just laymen installing shit that produced the failures?
>>
>>31782600

same for me. currently shipped out to cz for warranty
>>
>>31782803
Their parts are out of spec and constantly cause guns to beat themselves to death because of the loose tolerances they designed them with (so that homesmiths can easily install them)

Specifically their trigger return spring and trigger pin are terrible and eat their way loose because the jiggle around so much when the gun is firing.

I know for a fact that CZC gets all these shit parts returned and we just dealt with them by charging the customer to restore it factory conditions. Also I was told not to shit talk CGW because we don't want to start a flame war.

On top of it the CGW sells a lot of stuff that CZC makes. We would fill out huge orders for them for parts and they would unpackage the parts and sell them with their logo. Sales are sales though so nobody gave a shit.
>>
>>31782842

>1. Can I install this myself with just a punch? How do I take the other retaining pin out?

Sometimes the hole in the slide is slightly to small so you have to ream them out to make the solid pin fit.

Pin just knocks out with a punch

>2. Will this void my warraty?

I don't know about CZ-USAs factory warranty but if you send it to CZC they will warranty any work they do to the gun separately from factory warranty.

>3. Will this solve other problems of the CZ in turn?

This will solve the problem of the firing pin retaining pin from ever snapping
.
>4. can you recommend any other factory part that should be replaced?

Sights

Hammer

Disconnecter

Springs

Firing pin

trigger maybe

longer mag release if you're into that

>5. Does getting the interior of the gun polished enhance its life?
Make it more durable in any way? No
Make it smother and feel nicer to shoot? Yes

>>31783234

>>

swapped the hammer for a competition hammer, installed the mag well for IDPA, swapped out the grips for the ones you guys made, installed your SAO trigger and made it SAO. last but not least, swapped the LHS safety for a high profile safety to make it much easier under the clock.

took it to a match this weekend and won my class which was nice. really really really want to pick up one of your CTS's when I decide to buy another competition gun.

only shitty thing about the picture I gave is I had to dump those sights because they made the gun .009 inches too tall to fit in the box. talk about a shitty day, had to scramble to get it match ready and the sight recommended was unfortunately too short for my gun to be on target. ended up shooting 6 inches high at 12 yards so I had to go back and swap the front sight a second time, but now it runs like a champ and shoots great as always.
>>
>>31782971

Is there a specific trigger I can have them put in to get around that issue?

Maybe just get the defensive carry package?

https://cajungunworks.com/product/75-series-defensive-carry-package-338-00/

I had a lot of ftf issues w/ my sp01 (4-6% rate on failure to feeds) and I'm a bit anxious about relying on a stock pcr from ccw. Love the gun. Feels great, shoots great, etc. And I realize my issues are rare. But still. I'm willing to spend an extra 400 or 500 dollars for a gun I love but can also trust.

I read from CGW that they tried the solid pin and there were problems
>Why not a solid firing pin retaining pin? We tried that and found that a solid pin will soon damage the firing pin, causing peening. This peening or mushrooming of the firing pin causes the pin to drag in the firing pin channel = light strikes. A solid firing pin retaining pin can also get stuck in the slide. We have machined several from customers slides that would not drive out.

The rami might be the rarest gun in my collection for some asinine reason.

The 2075 is an excellent carry gun, It's comparable in size to the glock 26. Infact, most holsters for the 26 will fit the 2075. The night sights are easy to use both day and night. The trigger isn't excellent, but it's good enough in a carry gun.

The 2075 fills a niche that very few other guns occupy. The pickings for a subcompact da/sa gun are few and far between. It boils down to picking the sig p239, the p224 or the rami.

You can't get your pinky on a ten round mag but I don't find it be uncomfortable. There are aftermarket pinky shelves available.

The greatest weakness of the 2075 is the finish. The painted finish on the 2075 has a tendency to very easily chip around the edges. Within 1 year of constant carrying bare metal was showing on the hard edges of the firearm. This can be easily solved by just giving it another coat of alumahyde or cerakote.
Another thing you need to be wary of is that dry firing can cause wear on the firing pin retaining roll pin.

What would changing the hammer do? How are the custom ones different?

>Specifically their trigger return spring and trigger pin are terrible and eat their way loose because the jiggle around so much when the gun is firing.
What the fuck? No. That's not accurate at all. Factory CZ 75 trigger axle pins are practically staked in place. Even the used CZ 75's I've taken apart which have had the staking overcome still have a tight fit on this pin. You can't remove them easily at all. And exactly how you think the trigger return spring is "jiggling around" I have no idea. It has zero room to come loose. I can only assume that you have never disassembled one of these guns yourself.

The only thing I've had problems with is the trigger bar lifter spring, which occasionally needs to be adjusted in old guns, but that's a very minor issue.

Have you never heard of the HK P2000SK, HK P30SK; Smith and Wesson 3913/3914; Beretta PX4 Storm subcompact; or Sphinx SDP subcompact? Considering that the DA/SA pistol is considered obsolete when compared to the modern striker-fired pistol, I would say that the market is practically saturated with the fucking things.

CGW solution to light strikes was a stupidly long firing pin with wrong dimensions.

The entire CZ shooting team uses the solid retaining pins with no problem so yeah.

>A solid firing pin retaining pin can also get stuck in the slide

This can happen if the pins are not tapered correctly which can happen even with the CZC pins. We solved this by reaming the slides with a drill or taking the pin down by hand on a blending wheel.

>>31783497
Has issues with some ammo I've heard. I just dislike them because they're so fat.

The CZC hammer+short reset disconector+lighter spring is what you get when you order a trigger job (plus the polishing of said parts)

These with these installed you can expect a very nice trigger that will be 3-4 lbs SA and 7-8 DA

These do take some fitting and proper polishing to work though.
I tuned the reset on my gun to have almost no travel for the reset which I like but causes me to double tap some times if I I'm not careful when shooting fast.

>>31783576
I've taken hundreds of these guns apart and I've seen the trigger return spring either broken or fucked on CGWs. the hole in the spring is too big which gives a bunch of leeway when the trigger is in motion causing unnecessary wear.

Usually my routine would be

1. Customer gun comes in that I have to disassemble.

2.Before I do anything dry fire the gun very slowly while pulling the trigger to the right and back.

3. If the gun fails to reset after firing it like this it's either CGW or a disconector that's on a weird angle letting the trigger bar slip to early.
>>
>>31782685

Recommended for many years by Jeff Cooper of Gunsite.
Recommended by Massad Ayoob.
So it had the old and new schools of gun trainers behind it.
Was a prohibited import during the Cold war, so had the allure of the banned.
When they came on the market in the USA they were relatively cheap.
Gunsmith Cats made it mandatory for /k/ Weeaboos to own them.
The Shadow took the practical shooting world by storm. It was simply a cut above any other production gun on the market that was approved for IPSC Production division.

IIRC the year it came out the Australian title was taken with the CZ and the next 9 shooters used Glocks. The following year seven of the top ten, including the winner, used Shadows.
