I made some research on swiss army knives and learned the swiss army itself invented it and it was standard military equipment for a long time. However, it was removed bc it was "ineffective" in combat. is this true? Exactly how useful are swiss army knives in combat?

They are not meant for combat, they are meant for general utility and to take down weapons. They are still issued too, just in an updated version.
Nah I use a REAL tool.
>>31754970
Probably because big dumb soldiers kept losing them.

Still issued, but updated. Not a combat knife. That's what bayonets are for.
This is what the old issue one looks like. Very similar to the us army "demo" knife

The demo knife.
Which is the same as a classic Boy Scout knife, but with metal scales instead of plastic.

Those are hard to find.

Also for hand to hand combat, I would say it is effective.

They're like twenty to fourth bucks on eBay usually.

Yeah, i know. I meant locally, and new. Should have been more specific.
>>31755269
Thanks though
>>31755319
No problem. Ya local is hard, and nib is just as hard.
Are the blades on these worth any shit at all?
>>31755439
From my experience the blades are OK as long as you don't try to cut steel wire with them.
I have one since more than 10 years ago and it's still cutting stuff rather well.
Anyway my Leatherman is still better quality and more usefull overall (but a little bulkier).
>>31755439
Blades are pretty sharp and surgical steel quality. Not for real rough use though.
>>31755439
If you hand sharpen and maintain the blade they are pretty good, especially for the price.
>>31755439
The blades are of good quality.
I have a small Victorinox that I used for all kind of shit over the years, and the blade somehow still maintained its edge.
I was a kid most of the time, so I didn't sharpen it either.

You want an 8 inch blade minimum on a combat knife so you can poke the right organs.
Anything shorter is for utility purposes. Swiss army knives are great. Fuck the corkscrew though you want the screwdriver.
