Countless others, the U.S. glorifies the military so much because the majority of our prominent figures were in it. Many of our presidents were either involved or in the military (Nixon, JFK, FDR, both Bushs). Hell, both Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix were servicemen. At one point you weren't really even considered American if you weren't in some war. First man on the moon was a U.S. veteran. Fucking Bill Cosby and MC Hammer! Harvey Milk for crying out loud! You'd be hard pressed to find notable U.S. figures who weren't also in the military.
