PRE-ELECTION MAG CHECK

Have you prepared for the post-election panic buying yet?
>>

Don't have the amount I uses to. Had planned to sell a bunch once prices shot off. I got enough for my self. 12 30s for my arsenal ak. Shit ton of 20s and 30s and a few 40s for my ar's.

I'm instead wasting as much ammunition as I can by bringing the left-leaning people that I know to the range.

You don't hold off the flood by throwing out some sandbags, you prevent the flood from ever happening. I've turned a dozen of them to at least voting 3rd party this election, a few less for Trump.

Hearts and minds might not work in Afghanistan and Iraq, but Americans are usually much easier to get along with.

20 FAL mags
15 AK 5.45 mags
10 Galil mags
8 Glock 17 mags
4 Mark 23 mags
4 USP 9c mags

Honestly im not worried
>>
>>31735518
I respect your attitude, but it's not going to happen. To many liberals have been brainwashed. Clinton is coming and with it crazy gun control. Look at Adolf Healey in masshole. Despite an AG having to have things passed, the overall support that's spreading is alarming and other state AG's are licking their lips at their turn. More and more officials are jumping to extreme gun control rather fast. Washington states ag is trying to push for a ban. I would stop wasting your resources on the left dude.
>>
>>31735362
I would if I could, I'm in college and only get $600 monthly
>>
I need to buy a few more mags for my AR-10 but my main worry is ammo. I'll be bulk buying my favorite rounds shortly before the election though once I save a bit more money.
>>
>>31735665
I can afford it, so what's the matter?

In doing so I've found a regular range buddy.

Eh, a bit under. Probably save about $20 in the end. Considering PSA has had some reports of credit card breaches and is super slow, I'd personally just recommend paying the extra cash and getting it from SGAmmo in a week instead of PSA in 3.
>>
Finished watching debate, bought my first rifle, AR-15.

Can you keep cartridges stored long term in magazines?
>>
>>31737973
Yes, but just to be sure, store them in a dry environment. Throw in some desiccant packs and it's good to go.
>>
I don't have as much ammo as I'd like, but who does? Anyway, made my last order of the year last week. Got 600 rounds of 7.62x51, a couple of 30 round AR mags, and a pair of 40 rounders. Have about 30 assorted AR mags, and around two hundred pounds of various 9 mm, 5.56, 7.62, and .22. Really ought to make a spread sheet and figure out exactly what I have one of these days.

he did the same as he usual does
he missed the very very open target that was anything mentioned in wikileaks. she tried to preemptively deflect by saying RUSSIANS! HACKERS! which he could have easily countered with "it's not who did it, it's what they found"

nyt got trump's tax forms from back in the day because someone dropped it off. cointelpro was found out because some people raided government offices. hillary got found out because hackers got into her and her campaign's systems and started telling the world. doesn't matter who did it.

honestly he sucks at debating

Hey /k/, I recently bought the following:

2k .22lr
250 birdshot
100ish buckshot
250 5.56

I'm kind of a poorfag so money's kinda tight, but I feel like I should buy more. I don't have a stripped lower, so that's on the list. Aside from that, should I focus more on 5.56 or .22LR?
>>

556
>>
>>31738564

Cool thanks, I thought I was getting a good deal at the place I bought from, but Brownells is $8 cheaper total.
>>
>>31738666

Despite its difficulty to acquire at times, I don't believe .22LR will be going anywhere in the near future. 5.56 is probably the better choice to continue to hoard. A few thousand rounds on hand is a nice hedge against future stupidity and can be sold easily at a very high profit if it comes to that.
>>
>>31735518
Worry less about trump and more about the house and senate.

>>
>>31738094
Different anon here. Do you have any advice for what I should look for in buying an AR (or pairing an upper and lower)? Or maybe a pastebin to direct me towards? Any pitfalls that a novice like myself might fall into?

I really hate this timing. I feel that it is my responsibility as a citizen to own a rifle, but until now I've lived with parents who drank the nogunz koolaid and believed that that the term "common sense gun control" isn't an oxymoron. I've only recently moved out and started making my own way in life.

Normally I'd like to spend more time researching fucking everything before making a purchase, but I feel like I'm five minutes from midnight. Best case is I feel like I'm going to be faced with price gouging from panic buys or a worst case of Hillary gaining more power and attacking the second amendment.

I recognize the irony that I can easily be thought of as a panic buyer. But fuck, I just want to be able to defend myself if shit hits the fan and I need to bunker down until order can be restored.

I do have a leg up over a lot of my people my age these days. I'm fortunate be able to say that I'm debt free, have a steady job, and have some funds saved up to last me a few months if I were to suddenly find myself out of work.

I have 20 factory G17 mags for my two G17s, plus another ten Magpuls. I'll probably buy another 10-20 Magpuls soon. The Glocks are the only guns I own in any real danger of a mag ban.

Other than that I've got 1K rounds of Speer Gold Dot plus whatever's in my mags, 3K of Winchester NATO 9mm, another ~500 of mixed 115gr, 8lbs of Win 231, and 10K CCI small pistol primers. For my rifles I've got a couple of spam cans of 7.62x54R and I've got about 500 rounds of factory wadcutters for my .38.

My long guns are a .22, a shotgun, and a pair of Finn Mosins. Had AKs and ARs in the past, sold them for lack of enjoyment.

Probably going to buy ten to twenty Magpul G17 mags and at least five more OEM mags in the next two weeks.

Asked in /arg/ but it's mostly a circlejerk in there at this time of night so I didn't get an answer.

I have a 16" AR that I eventually want to SBR, and a stripped lower I want to turn into an 18" rifle. Should I get a third stripped lower before the election just so I'll always have something to play with later? The LGS has a bunch of Aero lowers for $95, but if I do decide to build a third AR, I'd ideally like to either build it off a nice Mega or Rainier billet set and use the stripped I currently have for a KISS rifle.

The alternative right now is to buy more Glock mags and 5.45/.308 ammo. I've got about 30 AR mags of 30 rounds or more already, though I might grab a few aluminum ones just to have later.
>>
>>31751000
i mean only you can answer that...personally its a stripped lower I couldn't care less about using something special. I just buy whatever is cheapest and spend the money on actually important things on the gun.
>>
>>31751000
Only difference between lowers is aesthetics and the roll-mark. Finding a stripped lower after Sandy Hook was impossible due to panic buyers, which is what's exactly going to happen if Hillary does win. Drop $100-$150 on a lower you like and don't worry about it. Every other part is a lot less likely to dry up and can be shipped directly to your house. You've got a good amount of AR magazines already too.
>>
>>31751057
I was in the AR game during Sandy Hook (which is when I got addicted to buying Lancer mags because they were all I could find), but I don't recall what happened to billet lowers and non-AR stuff like Glock mags and 5.45/.308 ammo. That's part of why I haven't jumped on a second lower already. The other part of it is again, just me wanting to get a "nice" lower and also fiddling with the idea of buying a QC10 Glock small frame AR.
>>
>>31735362

Should I be getting 10/20 or 10/30 magazines as a California resident? I like the profile of 20 round shells much more, but in the event that I am legally able to convert them to their full capacity, 30s seem to have a clear advantage.

Thoughts?

>>
>>31738900

Makes perfect sense. Demand is way up. Hate to admit that I'm an older fag but when that magazine was done, there weren't nearly as people into the shit as there are today.

On top of that, it is more expensive to import anything these days (partly thanks to Obama) and due to increasing regulations, it's becoming more profitable to send the arms and ammo straight to hotspots like Syria or Ukraine or to third world nations needing budget gear.

But you know I could buy a crate of x54R at one point for like $75-80. IIRC crate of 5.45 at one point was not much higher, but keep in mind that 10 years ago, I was the only person I knew with an AK in 5.45. None of my LGS' even carried them, and most of them carried very few tactical weapons at the time.

We're talking a change in 10 years where the average gun store was 75%+ hunting rifles/shotguns/revolvers/etc to 75%+ semi auto pistols and "assault weapons"

The Virginia AG tried that sort of unilateral action and got beat the fuck down by the House of Delegates.

For those that don't remember, the VA AG canceled the CCW reciprocity with basically everyone. The House of Delegates got together with the DEMOCRAT governor Terry McAuliffe (Who, by the way, is a very good friend of Hill-Dog) and got a law passed a few weeks later that forces the AG to accept any reciprocity agreement from any state. Plus that same law requires the State Police to provide background checks to anyone who wants them at all Virginia Gun Shows. A real win win for gun owners.

Long story short: It's not all over, things can still end well for us.

Depending on how much you shoot, thats probably a good bit of ammo for a poor. 556 is lacking a little. I'd burn all that ammo up in 2 range trips. Im going on a 2 day shooting/camping trip here in a few days. I packed 2,135 rounds of ammo and Im by no means over doing it. I'll burn up all that ammo no problem. I'll shoot 700 rounds during a typical 2 hour range trip. Helps that I reload and cast bullets for everything I shoot. Most loads cost me 5 cents a piece or less. 500 magnum costs a little more. light plinker loads cost me 8 cents a piece to shoot but full house magnum loads run me 16 cents a piece or a whopping $8/box

Lot of work involved but fuck, $2 a box for 380, 9mm, 38spl is dirt cheap and I enjoy the process and take pride in what I cast and load

its a crate of 1120 yugoslavian surplus brass cased corrosive 7.62x39.

I wish I had picked up another crate because I don't really want to open this and shoot it. It's like a work of art. The crate is cool too.

Mostly wheel weights. I've made a few deals on armslist trading people either ready to load cast bullets or actual loaded ammo. I had a good deal worked out with some college kid who worked at a tire shop. There was a guy who drove a truck to all the tire shop's chains in the tristate area to collect scrap wheel weights to be environmentally friendly disposed of/ recycled stupid EPA bullshit where it actually cost the company to collect and get rid of their lead. Anyways he would give the truck driver a $20 or couple boxes of ammo and he would stuff his truck with as much as he could give away. I would trade him one round of pistol ammo(cost me 4 cent per round) per pound of lead scrap(cleaned up to be 68% clean ingots). I got somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,400 pounds of unsorted scrap this way and it only cost me ~$140 including gas to get to him an hour away.

Ive also had a couple people trade me pure soft drywall shielding lead for 10-15% of the weight returned to them in the form of ready to load powder coated cast bullets. Got about 400 pounds this way

My neighbor has been good to me as well. he gave me about 250lb of all lead wheel weights that he obtained 10 years back with the intent of casting fishing sinkers. He's also came home from work a couple times with 30-50 pounds of soft lead sheet.

Ive also taken my scrap brass, spent primers and other various copper I come across to the scrap yard and traded for some lead scrap they had. It was worth doing but probably the most expensive way to get lead

Ive also mined the berm at the public range. I used to go on crappy days near close. Once everyone headed out, I would take a 30 cal ammo can out to the berm and take a big ol scoop out of the bullet impact zone. I would constantly get 18 pounds of scrap per 30 cal can of ore. It took a lot of washing and sorting to get the rubber berm material out and sort/cut all the plated bullets so lead could escape and they wont blow up in the pot.

Once its all cleaned up, I'll have somewhere around 1,500lb of lead as well as a few hundred pounds of lead already cast into bullets ready to load. Im done collecting lead for a while. That will likely last me 8 years of shooting. The best part is that once I start running low I can just dig out the small area of my little home berm and reclaim all of my bullets. Casting is awesome. You can shoot a bullet hundreds of times over and over.

Sounds fun but doesn't really improve your aim. Are you a competitive shoother?

No, I just like to shoot a lot and dont hold back any because ammo cost isn't a factor to even consider. When you have all your mags loaded up it really isn't hard at all to shoot 350 rounds an hour. Thats like a box every 10 minutes, or 3 glock 17 mags every 10 minutes. Just doing a casual plinking pace smacking steel, a magazine is gone in under a minute. Im not trying to improve my aim any, I like plinking around cans, rocks, shotgun shells and smacking steel. On paper I get on average a 2" group from any handgun when shooting offhand at a fairly fast pace only allowing a couple seconds between shots. not super duper accurate but certainly good enough to hit what im aiming at most every time.

How does /k/ feel about Hexmags in general? I ordered a 6 pack for $50 which was a pretty good price, in my opinion. I haven't shot any yet, but I pulled a Gen 2 Pmag I bought apart and compared it to the hexmag. They look almost identical (both have nearly the exact same follower, similar weight, similar feel, similar profile) with the pmag seeming to have some sort of polymer lube on the spring.

I guess I'll have to shoot them for myself to see how they function, but I'm impressed so far.

Gen 1 hexmags have problems. Gen 2 should be gtg.

Get some gi mags. Mb some 20 rounders for specific situations.

that wheel weight bucket weighs 200lbs at the least
>>
>>31762145
Im guessing something more like 250lb considering they are all sorted lead only weights and mega heaped over top of buckets. typically fresh from the auto shop buckets with all kind of weights are 175-185lb when filled just below flush with all kind of weights, valve stems, hex nuts, cigarette butts, etc.

The two full buckets of ingots are around 250lb each as well.

The "reasonable gun control" argument is one of the hardest nuts to crack, but if you know right where to swing the hammer it's actually doable. I usually start asking the very reasonable person how they feel about Constitution and the rights that it affords American citizens, and I have yet to meet anybody that doesn't appreciate the framework of our nation (I'm in the Midwest if that makes any difference). Since I'm usually speaking with a left-leaning individual, I start asking about the Amendment process and if these hold the same weight as the Constitution itself, rattling off the rights afforded by the 13th, 15th, and 19th Amendments. Of course they support these Amendments, so I ask why the 2nd Amendment should come under scrutiny when these don't, which is ALWAYS met with "well, they didn't have assault guns when they wrote the 2nd Amendment, they wouldn't want those to be legal now".

Rather than talking about Lewis and Clarke and their stupid air rifle, I ask them how they feel about SCOTUS interpretations of the Constitution, almost always bringing up Roe v. Wade. Of course muh abortions need to be protected in these people's minds, so I give them a brief history lesson on US v. Miller. As much as I dislike arguing in favor of the NFA, the argument made by US attorneys stating that

>the 2nd Amendment protects only the ownership of military-type weapons appropriate for use in an organized militia.

is usually what stops the argument. If it keeps going, I bring up Federalist no. 46, where Madison expresses the danger of an overreaching Federal government and the role of the State militias in countering any overt acts of aggression from the former.

The "muh oppressive gubmint" argument might sound crazy when it's presented via Facebook meme, but when it's a legitimate concern of one of the Founding Fathers, people have a lot harder time refuting that.

This does not work for cz P09 ten round mags. The dimples destroy your drill bit. Small bits skate around in the bottom of the dimple, larger bits get wrecked on the corners of the dimple. I used lube, and slow pressure. Still wrecked my stuff. Going to go clamp it into my buddies mill, and pound a center drill through it, at fuck your life rpms. Ymmv

The good news is the springs and followers work perfectly in the 19 round bodies.
