Why has Europe started making AR-18 clones? Why didn't they just adopt the original design 50 years ago if they were going to end up copying it years later?
>>
>>31731624
Same reason car companies didn't start putting windshield wipers on cars until after the inventor's patent ran out.
>>
>>31731624
>>31731639
Who cares? I want a fucking AR-18.

You're telling me there's a not-AR-18 being made?

What's the model? I haven't heard about this. All I know of are the actually new designs based on the AR-18's gas system, eg G36 and such.

I think that is what OP was getting at.
>>
>>31731799
Well then OP can go fuck himself. He got me all excited for nothing.

The 180B run was shit.

Got my Costa Mesa AR-180 for less than a grand. They're out there still.
>>
>>31731747
>You're telling me there's a not-AR-18 being made?
Not really
>What's the model?
AR180 and Vulcan V15, you don't want the latter though
>>
>>31731823

>want a semi-auto centerfire rifle
>AR's are $1000 guns (this is years ago)
>Mini-14 most logical choice
>LGS shows me the AR-180B
>Light, "proven", takes AR mags
>$600

I loved that gun. Accurate and reliable, then one day it just stopped working. Would jam every couple of rounds. Tried different mags and ammo, had a gunsmith look it over, nothing worked.

Traded it in for a mini-14

The SA80 is essentially a shitty made copy of a Sterling AR18 bullpup experimental prototype.
>>
>>31732472
They were going to copy the AR-18. Then Sterling sued the shit out of them and won, so they had to change it.
>>
>>31732472

No. SA80 is what happens when you take a mechanism designed for 6.5 British and just jimmy rig it to fire 5.56mm.
>>
>>31732520
>6.5 British
No such round. I think it was 4.85 or something.
>>
>>31732520
Having used the SA-80A2, the actions and gas system are identical between the AR-18
>>
>>31732531
Did he mean .280?
>>
I just want a fucking FAL chambered in 5.56 that excepts standard AR mags.
>>
>>31733153
You can have this right now. If you're willing to pay a grand. http://www.redrockarms.com/atr.html
>>
>>31733220

no i no merchant.

2/3 discontinued products.

ytf is the fal always so fucking expensive

>>31731624
The original AR-18 itself wasn't ideal, but the gas-system and bolt-carrier group is fundamentally sound and can be adapted in a lot of ways very easily.

>>31731747
There's the AR180B, it takes AR mags and features a top-rail, but it has a plastic lower.
Nodak Spud makes a machined lower receiver for it if you want it to be stronger.

>>
>>31733153
You want a heavier and less practical FNC?
Because the FNC is basically an improved and lightened FAL in 5.56mm

22KB, 400x400px
>>31734188
Think before you fucking post: the FNC has almost nothing to do with the FAL. The FNC is long stroke gas piston with a rotating bolt, much like an AK, while the FAL is short stroke with a tilting bolt. Even their manufacture is different, as the FNC is mostly stamped while the FAL is mostly milled.

Do some fucking research before you spew this asinine bullshit. I don't even know why I go on /k/ before 8 p.m.

>>31732745 You're talking about the EM-2 which went nowhere
>>31732531 You are talking about the L64/65, which was developed into the SA80
>>
>>31734899
It's lighter, and rotating bolt is better, so I'm half-right.
>>
>>31735338
The AK has a rotating bolt and is lighter than the SVT, that doesn't make the AK an "improved an lightened" SVT.
>>
>>31735505
And I'll concede that point.

If you want a milled rifle with a tilting bolt, short-stroke gas-piston, while in .223 and taking AR-15 magazines, why not consider a Vz58?
>>
>>31735734
Didn't know they made .223 Vz58s. Are they imported to the US or is it a Canadian thing?

Seems neat, though I'd rather have a 7.62x39 version

>>31736042
They seem more popular in Canada (because of LAR-15 pistol magazines allowing for 10rd capacity), but of course, there's the vanilla 7.62x39mm rifles as well (which also get pistol magazines in Canada now, so it's a win/win for them in that sense).

Cause the West looked down on stamped sheet metal firearms as too primitive. The AR-18 is the AK of the AR world.
>>
>>31736936
>the West looked down on stamped sheet metal firearms as too primitive

Then why did West Germany adopt the G3?
>>
>>31736955
Because East Germany was going to throw AK after AK if they invaded. West Germany needed a cheap and fast service rifle to produce.
>>
>>31736955
because FN didn't want to license the FAL for production in Germany
>>
>>31737001
Not him, think he was referring to why West Germany adopted a stamped sheet metal firearm if they were unpopular in the West.
>>
>>31736955
they were broke and the Belgians didn't want to give the Germans weapons, because they still remembered getting fucking leveled by the Wehrmacht
>>

I think your license expired desu Did you call customer service?
>>
Can someone tell me what is so special about the ar-18? It looks like a FAL had shat out the bastard child of a kalashnikov
>>
>>31731747
>I want a fucking AR-18
no you don't
>>
I don't see the fascination over the AR18.
>>
>>31740184
>>31738848
They serve the basis for a significant amount of modern service rifles, it has historical value.

The way the bolt-carrier group and gas-piston are set up and function on the G36, AUG, F2000, SCAR, ACR and L85, all are based on this rifle.
They all vary slightly (the L85 being an attempt at making it not work), but if you compare the pistons and the bolt-carrier groups of these rifles to that of the AR-18, they are extremely close.
Even the MP7 is a scaled down version of it.

>>31740175
They're not as good as the AR-15 but it's still a cool gun.
>>
>>31741133
The last few posts created a "lightbulb" moment for me. USA has some love affair with the word "forged" not cast, not milled, FORGED!! MU FUCKIN FORGED! Even milled receivers get the " billet" moniker to try to stand up to "FORGED BY GOD!!". HAHA
>>
>>31731624
because AR-18 is actually a shit gun
>>
>>31737040
> Fuckin leveled
> Who are the Chasseur ardennais
>>
>>31741207

Forged is stronger, though.
>>
>>31734077
I have considered becoming retarded, buying a B, putting the NoDak lower on one, then getting the stock folder.

A lotta money for my raifu.
>>
>>31740184
People want what they can't get, even it it is a pile of shit.

Forbidden fruit effect in the gun world is real.
>>
>>31738196
Jesus. This is funny, but also scary.

The video game industry in it's current state is the only industry where the product you buy is not really owned by you, but is instead rented.

I hate to preach but fuck, Iremember back in the day when you bought a game, so long as the disk worked you could play it, now with DRM I havecabout 10 games that won't start even forvsingle player ans about 25 games where online multiplayer was the main experience and I can't play it anymore...this make me sad and fear if some how DRM locks are put on other material objects and an alarm sets off five years after owning a perfectly fine working table and couch that you paid off at check out and you have the reciepts and warranty cards, but repo men bust into your home and take them away.

What about DRM food? You pay 50 dollars for a steak dinner, but because you wandered out of wifi range a guy from the resturant tracks you down and makes you vomitbout your food.

The world order dislikes property owners and wants more renter serf peasants.

Nothing wrong with wanting a cool gun, even if it isn't actually amazing.

Wonder if one could build an AR-18 pistol using that receiver? Though the ACE side folder looks so good on a milled receiver.
>>
>>31733153

Springfield SAR-4800, about 200 of them were chambered in 5.56mm and take AR mags.
