Is the 6.5 Creedmoor the apex of rifle round technology?

>lower recoil than 308
>300 win mag trajectory
>dat 6.5 ballistic coefficient
>works in AR-10 with a barrel change
>cheap as .308 in stores, easy to hand load
>>
>>31726579
Is this going to become the 10mm of rifle rounds?
>>
>>31726620

naw. It's more like the .357 sig of rifle rounds
>>
>>31726579
>300 win mag trajectory
To a point. Hot, heavy, long barreled 300WM can do some amazing things with the 215/230gr berger bullets
>works in AR-10 with a barrel change
Has limitations; due to pressure signs, people run the 120gr bullets instead of the 140/143gr in the semi-auto's. With any of these ELR rounds, you really need the extra barrel length (26-28") to get the advantages, unfortunately manufacturers are still using the shorter barrels which defeats the purpose.

I still think the round is great, but it has some caveats.

can you explain?

yes, 6.5 is superior to all others for punching paper at long range. If you want to take out blue helmets at 600+ plus yards in the coming occupation, yer gonna want 300 win mag. (arguably 50-100% more energy at 500 yards than 6.5)
bonus: walmart always has 300 winmaggy in stock....no sissy reloading necessary.
inb4 "throat erosion" "barrel wear" none of you fuckers shoot enough to wear out barrels...
>>

I remember when I was a newfag to shooting. We've all be 13 once.
>>
>>31726579
It's actually a pretty slow round. 270 WSM is much better.
>>
>>31728113
It's supposed to be fairly mild mannered when you compare it overbore hotrods like that. The point is it's good enough for the intended purpose, and might well be a great improvement over what you were shooting before (i.e. you were taking .308 out to 1000yrds), but you can always go better. It's just a case of what you want.
>>
>>31728149
>The point is it's good enough for the intended purpose
Which is?
>>
>>31728168
Precision shooting out to about 1000-1200 in an AR. More than that any you might want to look into more powerful rounds.

I look at it this way.
I want to shoot a durr. I can shoot it with .308 just fine. Or I could get a .300WSM which is better in every single in regards to ballistics.

It's just a nice round.

My 30" barrel 300WM with 210gr VLDs chronographed 3100ft/s with a low charge of Retumbo powder.

From a 100 yard zero it was 19MOA to 1000. The only thing I'd like a 6.5 over the aforementioned setup is that the rifle would be lighter and shorter in 6.5 CM, as my 300 is 15lbs at 51" long oal.
>>
>>31726579
If you are considering cost and barrel life, then yes.

If you are just considering performance, then no.
>>
>>31726579
That's not the .270.

>>
>>31728395
Too bad they don't make dick for match bullets and the like for .270. It is such an awesome caliber.
>>
>>31728409

Doesn't matter when they can go .300 winmag accuracy @ 1km.

>>31728228
>I want to shoot a durr. I can shoot it with .308 just fine. Or I could get a .300WSM which is better in every single in regards to ballistics.

I don't think I have ever given a fuck about what I shot a deer with. Deer are big and stupid, hunting isn't hard. Why would you use something other than .308 or whatever you have on hand?

The only time I have ever actually selected a specific rifle to kill a specific animal is when I was dropping coyotes at 4-6 hundred meters with a ,222
>>
>>31728262
Pics of long ass rifle?
>>
>>31726579

Accuracy is king.

Still some question about barrel life, throat wear and SBR performance. But it's definitely got a leg up on .308.

Fuck the idiots in charge of the LSAT program that have the opportunity to convert to 6.5mm but instead continue to eat their own shit and chamber it in 5.56.

Id argue that some of the 6mm PPC wildcats to come out out are the apex. Almost .243 ballistics out of an intermediate cartridge. With some 95gr bergers, that some sweet stuff.

6.5 creedmoor is pretty sweet. I had a maten with a noveske barrel on it awhile back that had to get sold to pay bills. Got a new noveske 24" creedmoor barrel thats going to get put on an LMT MWS.

a 6mm creedmoor, yeah. 6.5, not so much.

I'm still waiting for someone to post 55 grain .243 Win vs level 3 armor on youtube.
>>
>>31729505
How many times can you do that until you may as well have just bought a new barrel?
>>
>>31729511
For any sort of precision shooting you're gonna be replacing the barrel pretty often. Luckily you can resell the barrel to make some of your money back and it actually isn't that expensive.

>>
>>31729511
$300 for a new barrel
Good for ~5000 rounds to over 1 moa.

The amount of ammo you shoot through it will dwarf the cost of the barrel.
