Most ultra accurate M14 builds use heavy profile 18" or 22" medium or heavyprofile barrels for maximum rigidity, velocity and sight radius.

The socom kinda sucks because of it's non standard gas system which was forcefully overgassed into working because they didn't want to re engineer the gas port location on the shorter barrel. The front sight and rear peep is also fuckhuge if you are used to target shooting with irons. Moreso if you used NM irons before that.
