Every weapon system has its limitations and MALD is no exception.

Early warning radars and ELINT like "Valeria" have a database with emissions (by frequency and intensity) of all NATO jet fighters. How well will MALD perform against 92N6E resolution is remains to be seen, but whatever countermeasures MALD has it's fuselage doesn't have capacity to squeeze in anything like AN/APG-81. Consequently, both Russian KRTP-86 "Tamara" and Chinese passive sensors can tell it's not an aircraft, and long-range SAMs will simply ignore it because intercepting ordnance is not their job. So using MALDs as "ghost formations" against modern IADS is nothing but Raytheon's marketing stunt.

What's more likely is using MALD to imitate JASSM as they both can share similar signature, subsonic speed and flight profile. This is why systems like Pantsir, Tor, Tunguska and Gurza rely on both radar and visual (TV and IR) target identification. For example, an ALCM-type missile with AGM-86 has a 300kg thrust and much larger IR signature than MALD or AGM-158. Diameter of a decoy in TV spectrum is also 2x lesser than that of an actual cruise missile. Pantsir has ridiculous 4-6 seconds target acquisition time, engages multiple targets simultaneously, and exchanges data with every other SAM on the battlefield, so MALD's "deceptive" capabilities will be rendered useless upon it's first engagement with IADS.

Much like every other weapon in USAF arsenal. MALD comes as a valuable tool against tribal sandpeople stuck between 1950s and stone age; but utterly infeasible against a high-end threat array that is mobile, interlinked, and uses multiple sensor modalities for target detection, identification, and threat assessment.
