So, Cold War small arms' munitions basically do nothing against modern body armor. Latest standard issue US helmets completely stop even 7,62x54R, with no ill-effects for the infantryman. There are multiple reports of US infantry in combat being shot and not even noticing it until they saw holes in the uniform.

It can be expected that within a few years this technology would become widespread. Doesn't that mean that a revolution in small arms is a necessity at this point? Otherwise all infantry combat will turn into a real-life video game, where everyone has to be shot 100 times for it to have any effect.
Pic related is how next standard issue "rifle" will have to look unless something is done.

you seen the impact resistance/weight ratio of foamed aluminum

it's crazy shit, and it's not even in use yet

No, samefag, you aren't. Have you seen the video?

Body armor that is currently in use is pretty much impenetrable by anything snackbars have on their usual engagement range. Yet soldiers get killed pretty regularly. Think about it for a while.

Explosives > small arms

Does that machine gun have an engine cycling it, or what's the purpose of that pulley thing on the side?
>>
>>31657654
Its a charging handle, wtf.
>>
>>31657520
lel body armor not gonna do ya much good when you get shot in the face, arms, legs or groin and bleed out. Its just one of those things that boost some privates confidence so he'll happily be point man on a breech.
>>
>>31657520

>8 x 10 body armor covers most of chest >Helmet covers head
>shot thru the neck, hip, or thigh and bleed out

Your arguement holds up faggo

The ECH, which is not even in full scale production and has not replaced MICH/ACH/MCH, is designed to take a hit from ball intermediate rounds - 7.62x39, 5.56, 5.45, etc - not full power FMJ like 54R

What about miniaturized ERA? There's that Russian video where they put an ERA between an SUV and a shaped charge and the SUV 'kinda' survived.

>I wonder what would 7.62 NATO do, oh right it wouldn't penetrate

It's the charging "handle" - it pulls a cord that pulls the bolt.
>>
My chest and head are completely safe from small arms fire!

>Gets shot in arms
>Gets shot in legs
>Gets shot in side

If body armor made you invulnerable to bullets, you wouldn't see soldiers taking cover when they come under fire. They'd just advance into it without giving a shit.

10mm time bb!

It's also pretty much human nature to hit the deck when you come under fire.

Even if your assumptions about the potency of body armor and and their accessibility were true (they're not), it wouldn't require a revolution in small arms. Quite the opposite, in fact. We'd just go back to the good ole' days of full-size cartridges like .30-06 and 8mm. Even Level IV armor doesn't hold up to those after multiple shots.
