It'll work fine. Despite most /k/ users' home defense fantasies, the likelihood of your home being raided by 2+ people hellbent on murdering you is very slim. Even armed robbers with violent intent will flee when shot at.

/k/ommandos talk about home defense like they are preparing for some kind of siege.

And hey, power to em, always good to have more than you need.
But the vast majority of your dindu incursions is just some skinny teenager looking to steal a TV or a gaming console to fence for a few bucks, he aint looking to catch an ass full of shot.

As far as im concerned if you have 1 good rifle, 1 decent shotgun, and a good pistol you got everything you need. To hunt and defend yourself.

Of course you shouldnt need to demonstrate need to own something, own as many guns of whatever type ya like, but a classic side by side or a good semi-auto handgun of decent make and caliber will be enough to defend your house.

By side saddle, do you mean one of those stock elastic nylon deals?

Get a nice leather one. It will stay and place WAAAAY better than thge cheap elastic stuff that will slide around when you start firing. Tons of choices out there, as cowboy shooters use them.

No point for the shotgun if you already have a 44.
But if you still want a break shotgun for home defence than atleast make shure that it has ejectors. You dont wanna be dancing around and shaking the gun just reload while under stress in a live threatning situation.

Will it work? Yes. Is it optimal? No.

I would recommend spending a minimum amount of money and buying a cheap pump 12 and a Hi-Point. It won't set you back much and it will be a lot more effective.

I understand it is VERY rare for a home invasion/burglary to turn into a gunfight, but if you happen to be that .001% where it does, you really want to be better armed (two 12ga + six .44 vs eight 12ga + ten 9mm).

Really though, I would be hard pressed to recommend the modern Stoegers shotguns since they moved production to Brazil. A used Savage/Stevens would be a better choice if you insist on a SxS.
