New gun

>AK-400
The Russians already switched from 7.62 to 5.45 after realizing that 5.56 was superior to what they had.
Now they've put American style stock on their AR resulting in, "characteristics of greater precision"
They're calling it a new gun. haha

And more modern iron sights and a picatinny rail system. It's basically on par with an M4A1.
>>
>>31654296
bretty much, though I still like M43
>>
>>31654268
It's funny because it wasn't always like this. In ww1 the American Springfield was complete ass, the Sherman in ww2 was complete ass, the BAR was a piece of shit, the saber couldn't out climb a soviet mig.

We really didn't start getting our shit together until the end of the 20th century
>>
>>31654239

They switched to 5.45 due to politics, and lighter weight, 5.45 is better then 5.56 in every way unless 5.56 is fired from a 20" barrel.
>>
Our hyperinflated military budget has become free R&D for the rest of the world... Its ridiculous.
>>
>>31654391
You're not wrong.
>>
lol nice meme..they switched to 5.45 over political shit..they still make 7.62x39 ak's via the ak103 and ak12 series I'm pretty sure lol...and no a good 7.62x39 ak can get around 1 moa with a decent load

they did, the U.S came out with a smaller caliber for their new service rifle, and russia copied it not to feel left behind, Kalashnikov called it a mistake and modernized 7.62x39 would be a better choice.

And yes 7.62 is still in service both with special forces, and with frontline troops.
>>
>>31654359
Springfield was an improved mauser. Sherman was a highly producable armored tractor, which worked well enough. BAR was good for its time of development for WWI, but was long in the tooth with bad upgrades for WWII.

Poor examples. Soviet MiG was better than our A2A for a time, though.

The F-86 was better than the MiG-15. It may have been slightly more sluggish, but not significantly so and it's radar gunsight and hydraulic controls lent it a heavy advantage.

Then the Russians reverse-engineered a downed F-86 and copied those too.

well the Brits called it the Ronson (after the lighter that had the slogan "Lights every time") and the Germans called them Tommy Cookers. Care to guess why?
>>
>>31655920
>Ronson meme
That's been thoroughly debunked. I'm guessing you thought the movie Fury was factual, don't you?
>>
>>31654368
You are literally basing your dumbass claim on a single projectile. And ignoring the myriad of options available for the 5.56.idk why I expected anything else

>>

I don't see the problem really, they just copy shit that works.

You don't see them going DI for a reason.
>>
>>31654436
That's a FOLDING adjustable stock.

Call me when an M4 has that.
>>
They are not going to switch to a different caliber. /thread
>>
>>31657612
A civilian company already makes those. Google it.
>>
>>31657729
I know, but the M4 doesn't have that shit.

In fact, it can't.

Folding stocks on ars are fucking retarded desu famalams
Now those pdw stocks on the other hand, those are some boner toners
>>
>>31655130

No
Used to be called AK-200
Then AK-12
Now AK-400
Doesn't matter that none of them are actually the same, they're just offerings replacing one another.
>>
>>31655920
yeah the Israelis (never thought I'd say something nice about them) sure hated them, which is why they used them until the 70's I think!?

And the US Pershing was plenty sufficient even into Korea where it terrorized gook armor. "But that was gook crews and not Russian!"

Which is why it's kinda funny people say sand niggers getting blown up in an Abrams that it's the Abrams fault.
>>
In the end, they are just going to upgrade the 74M and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Long stroke piston is the best.
>>
>>31657766
I tend to agree. Not gonna say the 74 is the greatest gun in the world, but like the AR, it's good enough that nothing else is is worth the cost of a replacement.

I think the stock and dust cover changes from the AK-400 but adapted to a normal 74 action would be a pretty good option. My biggest complaints about the 74M and its derivatives are the sights and the fact that you can't fold the stock with an optic mounted, and the new dust cover setup solves both of those problems. I know a lot of people find the 74M stock too short, as well, so the M4-style stock makes a lot of sense, though I personally love the current poly sidefolder.
>>
>>31657749
There is one. You just can't shoot it with the stock folded.

the OLD AK-12 and the now AK-12/Ak-400 are two different gun

AK-400 was being test along side AK-12 in 2013
>>
I'm thinking if I'm Russian, and I'm issued the wood furniture AK same as the one my father carried, that has meaning to me, particularly since there still isn't anything really better about anything else.
Instead I get issued this ugly ass railed up half American looking bastard gun.
You know?

Ronson didn't even have that slogan until post WW2, so that's out the window.

And it was only the early Shermans that had the fire problem and it was due to taking a hit in the rather exposed transmission would lead to fire. This was corrected with the A2 model.
>>
>>31657887
There are also AR derivatives with the recoil spring somewhere other than the stock, allowing a folder. That's getting well beyond just slapping a new stock on an AK, though.

this

they have no money, they have no political will, they don't have the logistical capability

When a broke state held together by nothing but sheer momentum has 40 years of sunk capital in manufacturing, storing, supplying, and firing a round, and when all of their small rifles fire it, they aint switching
>>
>>31657612
Law tactical folding adapter.

Though to be fair, you can't fire the gun with it folded so the kalash has one up there
>>
>>31657887
>>31657965

>>
>>31657750

>>
>>31657906
Russian are fucking pragmatic, they are not living in the past and pass up on all the upgrades.
>>31657950
They have no need to change caliber at the moment, the West is still using 5.56.
>>
>>31657950
Except all reasons you mentioned are irrelevant. There is simply no practical reasons to change the caliber that outweight humongous pain in the ass that the process of changing caliber would cause. That pretty much applies to any relevant country in the world.

>>
>>31657993
I would say russians are in fact kind wild considering they are issuing 4 calibers altogether, 7.62x39, 7.62x54r, 5.45 and 9x39mm.
>>
>>31654391
Just because they can see it doesn't mean they can produce it. Speaking of which still waiting on that Russian stealth anything.
>>
>>31658005
Dude, it's just a few aftermarket part on the 74M.
>>
>>31658004
Two, 7.62x54R and 5.45x39. Other two are used in tiny numbers by police and special forces.
>>
>>31658019
I don't believe that, considering even SAA got ahold of 9x39mm weaponry now.
>>
>>31654491
Wrong, only the AKMSB is still in service because they issue s subsonic 7.62x39 round still. When they deploy a unit they will have designated individuals who will be ussued an akmsb in case they need to use a suppressor and the subsonic 7.62x39

That is the only use it is still in service for
>>
>>31658028
Thats definitely an argument. Wait, no, its not, since the amount of 9x39 weaponry in SAA has absolutely no relation to the amount of 9x39 weaponry in russian army and police. Protip: recon platoons, GRU, mid to high tier MVD spetznaz, thats it, no one else uses it.
>>
>>31658057
It's definitely not fucking unicorn caliber, that's what I'm saying.
>>
>>31658062
It is pretty much a unicorn caliber when compared to others.

M855A1 addresses that and has both superior barrier pen to 7.62 M80 ball and reliable component separation in both M16 and M4 barrel lengths.
