Is that rust on a US warship? Don't we maintain them better than that?
She hasn't been to port for a while. They usually re-paint and replace all the sacrificial zincs while at home.
>>31641979
ITS A FEATURE
>>31641979
That's the new Russian paint scheme.
>>31641979
It's superficial rust. Even when you do get rid of it it starts coming back in a few weeks. Shit's salt water, it's gonna happen.
>>31641988
>>31641999
Gotcha, thanks for the info.
Hey, dumb question I'm sure, but can a blue-water naval vessel operate in fresh water?
>>31642317
Yes.
>>31642317
Yes, if they somehow get there.
>>31642317
certainly. It would be ever so slightly less buoyant in fresh water but they just adjust the ballast and it's gtg
When I was in the Navy(submariner, nuclear reactor operator), we never stopped painting the boat.
I would be hanging off the side of the USS Gronton, in the middle of the Atlantic, painting the hull. Only the USS Maine didn't get exterior paintining while at sea. Because we were underwater the entire time. Though I'm sure the COB would have had us in scuba gear painting underwater, if he could.
Do the targets(surface pukes) not care about rust?
>>31642317
>freshwater naval ships
>>31642480
>Somehow
Many USN ships are born to fresh water in the Jame's river.
>>31642317
Not at all. Navy ships can't float in fresh water. they immediately sink and then catch fire and burn for 7 days and 7 nights. then a golden goat is born from the ashes and flies to Valhalla with 6 holy clowns. It's A Boat what the fuck do you think.
That rust identifies as paint.
>>31642649
Christ man, I don't know. I wasn't sure if they'd need to swap out parts or something.
>>31642506
>be sleeping in bunk at 0430
>captain of sub stomps in
>stares at me
>gives me paint bucket and brush
>b-but sir we're 100 meters underwater
>NO OBJECTIONS SHITHEAD
>get dragged out of bunk
>forced into SEAL diving gear
>shoved in empty launch tube
>sub rises to 50 meters
>tube opens
>captain on radio
>AND DON'T SAY A FUCKING WORD UNTIL YOU'RE EITHER DROWNING OR THIS BOAT IS PRISTINE
>tfw painting ballistic missile sub 50 meters underwater in the atlantic
>tfw nobody will ever believe me
thank fuck i was an 11b
>>31642732
If the vikings can use their longships in the sea and in rivers then I'm sure any modern navy can do it too!
>>31642821
How the fuck do you even apply paint in fucking seawater conditions? Don't you need the environment to be dry and shit?
>>31643089
11b is infantry, you shithead. That whole thing was a joke.
>>31642317
Yes. It can be beneficial to the ship, because fresh water kills off the marine growth that accumulates on the hull and in seachests.
>>31641988
>>31641999
But in another thread I was told that rust will never occur on a shit if it was painted properly :^)
>>31641979
Just like how the Navy paints F-18's in russian colors for OPFOR-training, they also let some ships rust as to simulate a Russian Navy ship
>>31644467
Shits can't rust
>>31642821
I chuckled.
>>31644398
Goddamn, somebody post the greentext about the aircraft carrier running aground and sucking up a metric fuckton of garbage and sea life.
>>31641979
ITT
>butthurt vatniks talk shit after the reds got called out for not properly maintaining their shit and tried to bust american posters balls in a previous thread because there were rust stains from the bilge holes
>>31642317
>tfw no Apocalypse Now brown-water Navy
>>31644847
Sounds like you don't have enough iron in your diet.
>>31644880
thats the story about the USS Enterprise being forced out onto patrol prematurely
The USS Enterprise is with the Cube now.
>>31644467
ships do rust, the US does a pretty good job of preventative maintenence, but...
not only do hulls rust, but all the shit that the ship touches and all kinds of shit attached to the outside of the ship rust too, then that rust stains the other, non rusted shit
Is that rust? On superior Chinese ship?
See what I ded there OP? Even Chinese ships rust.
>>31645721
None of the ships in you pic is chinese.
>>31645869
That's what they want you to think.
>>31645721
>Prj. 20350
>Chinese
Kill and dispose your filthy body yourself
>>31645721
So sexy
>>31641979
>the moment when you had to the south Atlantic VERY fast and didn't have time for paint
>>31641979
monkey model.
>>31641979
>Don't we maintain them
What do you mean by "we", Lubber?
>>31646438
So u admit ur dumb. Good
>>31644880
Bumping for this.
>>31646492
You may call it rust, I call it Argie tears.
>>31642317
Can't wait for the great Lakes fleet to bombard the Canadians once more.
>>31648792
Bisko is for NTR.
>>31648792
This flag is the main reason you can have that opinion.
>>31641990
Planned obsolescence. If you're a producer of durable goods you want your goods to fail one day after the warranty runs out.
>>31646492
That's not going, that's returning.
>>31648839
This desu. On a legacy cruiser I had started to think how all the makings for thermite were all around me. Aluminum corroding to dust above the 01 level, powdered rust everywhere beneath the maindeck.
Then I go to the old battleships they've built into museums and note how fucking ridiculously intact everything is.
