So /k/, I'm writing some stories and although you seem to have been inept in answering my questions so far, I'm sure you could answer this one; What if guns evolved very differently.
Sounds odd, I know, but what if gun powder didn't see its best fit use or rather what if it was determined arrows were far more efficient but they needed a better way to launch them. And when gens failed, arrows took up that moniker, of the next best weapon. Rocket powered arrows. But lets get to my question.
Are there any advantages of gyro weapons, rocket propelled projectiles?

No really man its a pretty unexplored technology, mostly because there is nothing that a rocket propelled 9mm projectile has over a standard one.
Small projectiles are shit, though there may be some merit to a 40k style bolter.

That's stupid. You're fucking stupid.
The reason we use the guns we use is because, through trial and error, we have determined that, basically, they are the best, there's really no argument. To magically make a different kind of weapon better you'd need to create some magic substance that doesn't exist, or change up the environment where they evolve

Look up the GyroJet carbine and pistol.

Gyro weapons suck, here's why:
PROS:
+lower recoil then conventional ammo
+can theoretically be steered by altering
CONS:
-low initial speed and therefore low initial kinetic energy
-this is bad because most gunfights happen up close
-low speed also means a larger delay before the round gets on target making aiming harder
-ironically lower overall range
-extra complexity = extra point of failure
I'm sure there is a situation where they would have a small edge over conventional ammo but I can't think of any.

Nah anon, fuck your and your stupid ass stories. Now go shit up someone else's board. Faggot.

Inverse ballistic profile.
Standard rounds:
highest energy at close range but drops off.
Rocket rounds:
highest energy at max range as the last of the propellant runs out.
Really, the gyrojet rounds were ill suited to pistols or carbines.
Maybe we'd see more use if they had been used in marksman platforms.

Some of the earliest guns were designed to fire arrows. There are historical accounts of "musket arrows", and a painting from 1326 of a primitive gun firing an arrow. They just figured out that a lead ball works just as well and is a lot cheaper.

I can think of one scenario where that could happen. Suppose gunpowder was invented in the Bronze Age, when they did not have the metallurgical technology to make effective guns. Even though a lot of guns have been made of bronze, the casting technology to do that effectively did not come around until the middle ages. About teh best you could do with bronze age technology is something like the Morko Gun (look it up) and that is pretty useless on a battlefield.

You probably shouldn't open a discussion by telling the people you're addressing that they're idiots.
That being said, one group of people making the wrong use of a technology doesn't usually make everybody do the same thing. Technology evolves. The gun would have assumed its current form because that's the most efficient form.

That doesn't stop cannons from being used
