If you move from a free state with legally aqcuired ARs private party, to CA, what do you have to do to be legal?
>>
>>31607509
Same thing most Mexicans do: keep your mouth shut.
>>
Destroy or otherwise get rid of them.
>>
>>31607509
First you make sure your rifle is compliant under current CA laws via this flowchart.
https://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf
Then you fill out one of these and cut a check to the CA DOJ to the tune of $19 per gun, in order to register it to yourself.
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/volreg.pdf

And if you modify your AR by putting a bullet button on it, you will have to register it as an Assault Weapon sometime within the next year, which in theory could allow you to take the BB off, but will make owning it slightly more of a pain in the ass.
You can take it off AW registry by making it compliant under the new laws. IE mag is either fixed more securely than a BB OR a featureless setup.
>>
>>31607570

What if you dont register any guns, and keep the ars in the safe in case SHTF or you move out of state??
>>
>>31607759
Well, the first step is to not post about it on 4chan,
the second is to hope that when random house-to-house searches are implemented they just never get around to yours.
>>
>>31608044
I see that you have to register EVERYTHING to yourself once you move there. What should someone in my position do, move there and when they start coming for everything move outta state?
>>
>>31608081
Or just don't move to a place where you voluntarily forfeit your rights.
>>
>>31608044
>when random house-to-house searches are implemented
Won't matter at that point, because that falls under SHTF.
>>
>>31608114
THIS IS CORRECT
>>
>>31608114
>>31610843

This but living somewhere that tells you you can't own those weapons is still a pain in the ass.
>>
>>31610873
if they dont know they never come to your house for penis inspection day
>>
>>31608105
>>31608081
>>31607759
Or just be black, hispanic, or have an obama sticker to say you were owning those illegal weapons ironically.

Because its okay if gangbangers and dumbass antigun 'journalists' break the law.
>>
What I want to know is how they will be able to tell whether your AR is registered or not. And if you do register, can't you just keep all the "evil" features? It doesn't make any sense.

1. Put on a kydex wrap or switch from pistol grip to monsterman grip.
2. Have a muzzle brake instead of a flash hider.
3. Have a fixed or pinned stock.
>your AR is now featureless. you do not need a bullet button.

You are allowed to own the features you have removed and keep them until you leave the state again. If you are in the military, I believe there are certain exceptions to CA gun laws when on base.
>>
>>31611192
>What I want to know is how they will be able to tell whether your AR is registered or not.
How do you think? They run the serial number and your CDL. DROS entries are queried on demand.
>And if you do register, can't you just keep all the "evil" features?
Depends on the gun. Currently, "evil" features over the limit are completely forbidden without particular permits. After next year, you can, in theory, have however many evil features to you want if you re-register your rifle (assuming an AR-15 because it's a common example) as a CA Assault Weapon.
>It doesn't make any sense.
It does in CA because we're felons if you don't understand and fuck something up.
>>
>>31611368
>How do you think? They run the serial number and your CDL. DROS entries are queried on demand.
Maybe I should have asked: If a cop sees you firing an AR at a range with "evil" features will they come check your AR and run the serial right there on the spot? I just don't see how any of this is practically enforceable.
>>
>>31607759
then you better hope no one ever has the slightest legal reason to look inside your house and thus safe.
ever have an argument with a wife or girlfriend? ever get robbed or have any reason whatever CA LE feels they need to enter your residence? you're probably fucked. a number of people have been robbed then robbed of firearms by the police upon reporting it and had to fight in order to get their firearms back.

Comply of course
>>
>>31611839

The consensus online seems to be "won't happen unless there's an asshole officer."

My opinion is to just >>31611354 or register and not be a walking felony.
>>
>>31607509
Any 2 of these makes ur gun illegal
Flash hider
Pistol grip
Adjustable stock
Removable mag
30rd mag

As long as u have 1 you are California legal
>>
>>31611850
how horrifying

anyhow, so that would mean there would have to be cops stationed at every public range in California just to check people's rifles? seems absurd to me

and>>31611855
what would you see as the downsides to registering your rifle?
>>
>>31611899
In california the threat is enough to get sheep to follow along. you should see the arguments about whether a muzzle device counts as being a flash hider or not.

>>31611899
>what would you see as the downsides to registering your rifle?
they will then know you have it
>>
>>31611899
>what would you see as the downsides to registering your rifle?

I am not particularly opposed to registering my rifle, I just feel like not registering by going featureless is much easier. But then again, it'd be nice to be able to have a normal AR forever.

Being in a database doesn't particularly concern me. Still, the argument that they'll come take my guns away is pretty valid; they did just demand that grandfathered in 30 round mags be destroyed or turned over, and they'd have a database if they decided to do that to "assault weapons." Though, if that happened, I'd just go featureless anyway because you can go featureless and deregister.

People who think they'll use a database to set people up are fucking crazy.
>>
>>31612018
>People who think they'll use a database to set people up are fucking crazy.
so people are being too paranoid? after all I thought they didn't have the resources or man-power to go door to door
>>
>>31612033
>so people are being too paranoid?

Yeah. You've got to remember that the most vocal people in the community are schizo neckbeards.

If you're really that scared about them grabbing your AR, just get a mini-14 or some shit. Believing that semiauto centerfire rifles will be banned takes a really active imagination.

Hey, though. I'm just someone who likes to follow the rules. Being an outlaw isn't my jam.
>>
>>31611899
You're in California, why are you shooting at a range? The one thing we have going for us is great public land.
>>
>>31611882
That has to be bullshit because Turner's sells bullet buttoned DDM4s and shit that have flash hiders, pistol grips, and M4 stocks

Bullshit, it will happen and you will post about it in 4chan and nothing more.

You will grind your teeth and surrender your weapons., yet live for beer and football next sunday.

You know this is true.
>>
>>31612033
they don't and they know that they'd start getting shot up if word got out that they were going around door to door. regardless of that, most people would rather the government not know things unless absolutely necessary. what they can do with the database is target specific people for whatever reason. someone in your household checks themself into a mental health place? cops might show up to take YOUR guns even though it was the other person. someone in your family files a complaint about you for some bullshit reason? here come the cops again. the governor vetoed a bill that would have expanded things and allowed employers and coworkers the ability to lodge the same bullshit reasons that would get your guns taken. expect gavin newsome to do all sorts of fun shit when he gets elected.

>>31612097
til the end of the year the magazine lock is the fast way to make a gun CA legal. at the beginning of 2017 that is no longer the case and his list of scary things comes more into play (minus the 30 round mag part which is a different subject - also having one in a mag locked gun is illegal) so anyone who wants to sell you a rifle with those scary things has to partially disassemble the firearm or otherwise prevent it from having the scary things. he did explain it weirdly in that what makes it illegal is the having of a detachable magazine. a gun with a fixed magazine but a flash hider and a pistol grip would still be legal.
>>
>>31611072
>Because its okay if gangbangers and dumbass antigun 'journalists' break the law.
are there anti-guns running around cali packing heat or something?
>>
>>31612080
aint that the truth
>>
>>31611839
Just keep the original parts at home and bring you gimped AR to practice with at ranges.
I bet the last thing a range wants is assholes who come in, harass their paying customers and possibly chasing away profit.
>>
>>31607509
Also-not sure about this-but I believe you have to ship all firearms into CA through an ffl. If you bring it yourself it is trafficking.
>>
>>31612018
But that's what a database is for...when the time comes to maje shit illegal, they'll come righg to your front door.
>>
>>31607525
Honestly this
>>
>>31607509
Why the fuck are you moving to CA?
>>
>>31612187
A journalist in california wrote an article about building an AK from an 80%, never registering it, then just dumping it in the trashcan. He's still not in jail.
>>
>>31614437
source?
>>
>>31610873

This is like leafs being worried about having their guns lying around at home in case the Mounties stop by. It's a non-issue.
>>
>>31612165
I thought the AR mag lock was a way around it since you have to break down the gun to drop the mag.
>>
>>31612018
Because that's not what happened anywhere that had registration. (Hint aus, UK etc)

Registration us just slow motion confiscation.

>if you like your gun, you can keep your gun
>>
>>31612127
Love to be able to see what country you are posting from, because surely it cannot be in North America.
I'm a canadian, and I know whole towns that would rise up and kick out the cops if searches happened. Personally I would head into the woods immediately, considering 90% of my country is wilderness, they would never fucking find me. When the RCMP asked for searches escorted by the Armed Forces, during the High River floods, our brothers in the CF drew on them. Was one of our biggest law enforcement scandals.

I can only assume home searches in the states, a much more freedom-obsessed nation, would result in riots and massed civil unrest. And the people would win. The US gov's own disaster plans for civil unrest show that it would be an unwinnable scenario unless they plan to nuke their own people. The desertion rates in that case are ~50-80%.

This 100% you idiots.
>in Canada you must register handguns, but not long guns
>not even small artillery

This is why I primarily own long guns. I own one pistol, and if they ever turn up to take my guns, I'll give them my bloody ppx and tell them that's all I have. Then I am going innawoods and using my .50bmg, or possibly a PTRD if Marstar EVER gets more in stock, to remove RCMP donut.

And I doubt I am the only one. When they tried to put a long gun registry in place years ago, the noncompliance was HILARIOUS. They looked at the numbers, saw that about 20% of the number of SKSs and SVTs that had come into the country had been registered, looked at how much it cost to keep it, and trashed the whole thing.
Then months later someone found out the registry had been leaked to our news agencies, and the "bad idea" factor rocketed up even higher.
Yet somehow those cucks in Quebec voted to have it back, despite the supreme court shitting all over the idea.
God.
Damn.
Quebecois.

>2. Have a muzzle brake instead of a flash hider.
I never even thought about this, but the law doesn't prohibit muzzle devices, does it? Just flash hiders.
That's actually pretty funny.

But don't NY or NJ have a ban on threaded barrels?
