When the cops arrive what is the best way to hand it off? The cops see a man holding a gun on another person in an unknown situation and they get twitchy. Yet you don't want to just drop the hold instantly and get shot because you made a sudden move.

Pointing guns at people as a deterrent is a bad idea in general, especially so to "detain them" until the cops arrive

Either you escape or deescalate the situation without pulling it out, or the first bullets should be entering the perp at same moment he realizes you're 'packing'.
