Hey /k/, I'm thinking of adding a light to my EDC pistol.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Hey /k/,

I'm thinking of adding a light to my EDC pistol. I'm currently running a HK USP V1 9mm. I'm looking at the Streamlite TLR-3. mainly because it comes with the peice on the side to utilize the USP "rail". But there are a couple of adapters to use if I wanted to use something else.

What's /k/'s opinion on the TLR-3 and pistol lights for EDC in general?
>>
>>31605940
The lights are solid, that's the light issued to my brother from his department

But lights are pretty poor for a cc because they add bulk and can get snagged. Get a light for your hd gun instead

Viridian CTL is flush with the end of even some sub-compact handguns. About the same thickness too if not more narrow in some cases.

honestly I bought a 30 dollar NCstar light and its surprisingly good. It feels well made, isnt wobbly. and does its job.
>>
>>31606699
with all the money dumped into the glock already I'm kind of surprised you went for the cheapo light

then again all the money that potentially could have been spent on the light went to the rest of the gun
>>
>>31606699
>people spending all that money on fancy looking Glock slides and other shit

Put as many pearls on that swine as you want, it's still a swine.

I paid 850 for the glock, it came with everything you see in that pic, lncluding the RMR. 880$ if you count the NCstar light lol
>>
>>31606790
whoever sold you it gave you a hell of a deal then
the RMR alone makes up the difference between a new stock glock and what you paid, plus the slide, barrel, sights, trigger, and whatever else.
>>
>>31605940
Something small like a TLR-3 is fine for CC if you can find a decent IWB holster for it. Just make sure you have a regular flashlight for EDC as well.

yea I did the homework in a different thread the day I bought it. if you wanted to recreate this glock you would have to buy the glock 17 (550$) and then put about 1,500$ worth of milling and customization into it. So its around the 2,000$ price range. i'll probably hold onto it or trade it for some other guns in that price range.
>>
>>31606830
did he give a reason why? must have gotten into shit creek if he sold it for $850
>>
Anyone ever tried using an OWB holster for CC, like by wearing a belt on your underwear? It sounds stupid but in theory it should work fine
>>
>>31606856
it'd work, but why not just get another holster? cheap one if you have to
>>
>>31606863
I have a kydex designed to fit a weapon light already, so it would be nice to just be able to roll with it.

XC1 is the only acceptable model for EDC. Everything else it too bulky.
>>
>>31606830

1500 tops. I'm putting together a similar Glock 19, only without the gratuitous milling and it's costing me right around 1k.

maybe resell, but if you bought a stock glocko and just purchased everything it would be more:

>Glock 17 gen4 550$
>deus machina trigger: 115$
> slide milling for RMR 150$
>Trijicon RMR 550$
>dP customs slide milling 330$
>forgot barrel company but it was 220$
>stippling, literally the best stipple job I have ever seen with my human eyes, but cant identify the person who did it: 60-100$?
>not pictured, but a gunfighter magwell 100$
>extended glock mag release and slide lock 30$
>trijicon raised suppresor sights 126$
>thumb "gas pedal" and trigger guard undercuts 50$

that all comes out to 2,321$ you would have to spend total.
>>
>>31607232
Your estimates are in MSRP, but even so, yes I suppose you're right.
Still jelly.
>>
>>31606369

Not a bad way to test the waters. That's what I did with my first red dot and lots of other things for that matter. I think that's part of why cheapo gear sells. I remember seeing RIA 1911 quated as being great guns for people that want to try 1911s without dropping 1k, but that's back when they we're $350

nice pic op, I actually have a TLR-3 on my USP Compact for the same reason. The adapters are really stupid when you can get a light that goes straight on to the proprietary rail. It's a great light, the switch is double sided and you can have it temporarily on, or click it to stay on.
>>
>>31606699
did you shoot the gun with that light on there yet?

Hey OP, I have a full size USP myself, and use a TLR-1. Its a good combo but are you sure you'll be able to use this for EDC? Its a pretty big pistol.
>>
>>31607729
Yeah, before RIA and the market figured out that a $350 RIA GI was a better gun than a $700 Springfield GI.
>>
>>31607552
For all the shit we give generals here, they tend to have a larger concentration who are more up to date with their respective markets and don't skimp out whenever possible. Threads for the common man, like this one, do not share these traits for the most part. It's Streamlites all day, every day, until the end of days.
>>
>>31606699
What's the point of lightening the side like that? Wouldn't it just increase recoil and not improve any other performance in any appreciable way?
>>
When would a light ever see use with a CC piece? Unless you just want it for cool factor, but in that case why are you putting it on your CC gun?
>>
>>31608129
Not OP
But I've been looking for an OWB gun
Is it realistic to wear a USP 9 under a suit jacket?
>>
>>31608063
You have no idea how holsters work do you? Wait, you use uncle mikes don't you?

>>31608116
Yeah seriously, you can tell people who get lights like that don't actually shoot their guns. Also its hilarious how its all raced out, yet he goes cheap on the light.

>why would you want a light on a gun you're using for protection?
/k/; critical thinking specialists.
>>
>>31608923
If you actually need to use your gun, I don't really see you having the time to mess with lights or anything. And if you do have the time, you've got bigger problems than the lighting situation. Am I missing something here, or does /k/ shoot at people in low light situations, with the proper amount of forewarning?
>>
>>31608849
Balances out the added weight of the optic.
>>
>>31608948
Do you think every fucking situation where you might need a CC piece involves you doing a quickdraw hipfire in a well lit alley?
>>
>>31608963
No, but I don't see a terrible amount of them requiring a light, unless /k/ traipses around poorly lit slums on a regular basis.
>>
>>31608978
How about spending ~$150 on a small, durable light for those times where it might be handy when you're in the process of saving your own goddamned life, hmmmmmmm?
>>
TLR-3 sucks. It's got a plastic housing that breaks easily. Dropped it once from about knee height and one of the sides of the claw that holds it in place on the rail broke off. It's apparently a common issue. TLR1 is a great peice of gear though. It's got a metal housing.
>>
>>31608990
Preposterous, I never leave the basement therefore no one needs one.
>>
>>31608990
Dunno when it would be handy though. If anything, I'd prefer actually shooting the threat in question instead of turning on a light.

But this is your money, so do whatever the fuck you want.
>>
>>31609012
>I dunno man, how on earth could a weapon-mounted light be handy?
Jesus you're a fucking idiot.
>>
>>31609026
If it was your HD gun, then a light would almost be mandatory. But this is CC, and I don't really see a light being a need.
And maybe instead of calling me names, you could explain why a mounted light is a need. Ya know, healthy debate.
>>
>>31608978
believe it or not, there are times when I'm walking to and from my place of work at a convenience store where lighting isn't exactly optimal. shocking that there isn't ever-present life in every single facet of human settlement, I know.
>>
>>31609086
>life

>>
>>31608948

>>
>>31608129
why not? I already use it for EDC and it works rather nicely.
>>
>>31608916

The CTL has a small enough form factor to fit in most holsters that accommodate the TLR-3, I know as I have one.

What retard buys a holster without trying it on first?
>>
>>31609388
Lol, most good holsters you have to order and can't try before you buy. They are also fitted to retain to the light. Stop buying Remoras and uncle mikes and get a real holster before you spread misinformation.

You can not interchange kydex holsters.

There is interchangeability between some holster/light combos. A lot of tlr-1 holsters will retain a gun with an x300 on it despite one being longer than the other.
