I went to a rental range a few times and tried out a few guns. I shot the best groupings with the 1911 Range Officer in 9mm. I really like the frame, the sights are awesome and it just felt great in my hand.
However I never see anyone here, or anywhere with 1911s in 9mm? Is there something wrong with them?
Do people just not like having only 9 shots in a 9mm handgun? Do they just not fill any niche being that 1911s make up for their shortcomings with stopping power? Or is there something wrong with them?
Idk, I just really liked shooting this gun. It would mostly be a range toy. My house would be very difficult to break into so I'm not too worried about home defense. I live on the third floor and lock my doors at night
Because 1911 in anything but .45 is heresy.
But seriously, if you like it in 9mm, go for it.
9mm 1911s have been a quiet secret among the unpretentious for years

Yeah. I do realize that .45 would be a more practical choice for HD because stoppin powuh, but 9mm is cheaper and the main purpose of this gun is to get myself to the range as much as possible and learn to shoot. I might end up going with a Beretta 9mm first, then get a 1911 in .45 later.
>>31603530
Good choice on the beretta the 1911 will be election proof so get beretta first.
>>31603575
>the 1911 will be election proof
It's comfy to think that it would be like trying to ban "mom and apple pie."
>>31603575
No gun is election proof
>>31603598
You'd think every gun would be election proof...
>>31603494
>Is there something wrong with them?
Fudds cry because NOT MUH 230gr!
But they work. They won't use regular .45 magazines obviously.
If what you want is a hammer fired 9mm with a steel frame then there are quite a lot of options.
>>31603530
>I do realize that .45 would be a more practical choice for HD because stoppin powuh
Vastly exaggerated.
>>31603494
Try a steel framed Jericho 941 in 9mm.
They seems to be about the same in terms of Ergos but with higher capacity and easier to find magazines.
If you really want that 1911 though, then go for it.
Tradition. I'm considering a 1911, but still haven't decided what to get one in. On one hand 9mm is cheaper and can probably be shot much faster, but it just feels wrong to not have it in 45. Also I'm unaware of whether or not 9mm 1911s are as reliable as standard 45s. I have this thing about getting guns the way they were designed to function.
Are 9mm traditionally double stacked?
>>31605785
Are the P38 and P08 and Red 9 double stacked?
>Inb5 Hi-Power
Double Stack is a relatively new thing.
>>31603530
You want a 9mm over .45 because more rounds + faster double taps and mag dumps
9mm will destroy somebody, a 147 grain HST is not too far off from a 230 grain HST if you look at tests
>>31604736
Might surprise you that 9mm 1911's are designed to function when you use 9mm, you can't actually load .45 in them.
>>31603694
>think
>>31603494
If 9mm in a 1911-esque frame appeals to you, I'd suggest looking into the hi power
Because 9mm is fucking gay, get 45
9mm 1911's like this one?
>>31605813
>Are the P38 and P08 and Red 9 double stacked?
No.
A Jewricho isn't bad, there's variants with steel frames, with frame-mounted safeties and slide-mounted safeties, a steel framed one would probably be pretty nice with wood grips. Available with and without rails.
Modern magazines can hold 17rds
>>31603530
>Yeah. I do realize that .45 would be a more practical choice for HD because stoppin powuh
Yes, if you love killing your family members on accident as .45 travels through the drywall, then it is more practical in that regard.
The problem with 9mm 1911s, (And secretly most cheap 1911s) is that unless you buy one from a good company it could just be literally a cheap 45 1911 with a different magwell, up to really well built ones that will never fail on you. But thats the problem with most 1911s, unless you pay north of 1000 its low quality taurus shit with a 1911 profile.
>>31606438
Just as much an issue with 9mm
>>31606452
>unless you pay north of 1000 its low quality taurus shit with a 1911 profile
Nah, RIA is well above Taurus.
ウンコ
>>31606438
I can slap my dick through drywalling, a bullet isn't going to stop in it whether it's a .25 or a .50ae
if you like the 1911 that much get it, but try to keep your options open. You're after a 9mm large steel framed pistol with a SA trigger. You can find something similar that was actually designed to be a 9mm and carries over 15 rounds but doesn't cost $900.
45 is shit. 9mm superior penetrating power
>>31608289
They all fall to hardball.
If it's .45.
I personally want a 1911 in 38 super
Hey, it's a 9mm
>>31610596
You need to step up to .45 Super m80
That's REAL stoppan powah
>>31603503
>not 10mm
>learn that springfields have a stupid ass key lock like smith revolvers
That just about killed it for me. I didn't want a colt 1991 because the firing pin block ruins that trigger pull. I've tried one, and yes it does. Finally find another 1911 that looks decent and it has stupid unnecessary features as well.
9x19mm 1911's aren't reliable at all. Look into a CZ75 or Hi Power if you're determined to own a 9mm - you could always be a special snowflake (or wetback) and get one .38 Super but if you've fallen in love with 1911's get one in .45ACP.
>>31611639
ILS is asinine but Springfields are all still series 70's so replacing the mainspring housing with a 50USD Wilson Combat/Ed Brown is worth it.
>not using the 1911 design to its maximum capabilities and having a Coonan .357
fucking wankstain
>>31612082
>Not going full on 2011 and getting a doublestack 10mm.
>>31611639
Cough up money for a fancy Dan Wesson maybe?
>>31603494
Nothing wrong with 9mm 1911s, I'm shopping for one right now. IMO they are for people who shoot so much that ammo cost is a concern. If you are just taking it to a range a few times a year you may as well get it in .45 to have the full experience.
