Hypothetically speaking, could a 22LR hollow point round go through a deer's skull at 30 yards?
>>
Yes. My great grandfather used to durrhunt with a .22.
>>
>>31572260
Headshot or traditional behind the shoulder?
>>
>>31572252
Yes. On the other hand, I've seen someone pilump half a box of .22 into an emu, including point blank shots, to no apparent affect.

Hell yes.

>>31572430
That's because emus are bullet absorbent sponges.
>>
>>31572308
I don't think he ever told my dad where he was aiming, and he died when I was a little kid.
>>
>>31572252

Yes.
>>
I may go deer hunting with a 22 then...

Sorry for the loss anon... Thank you for your answers however.

If this makes ya feel any better, I was handed down a 1956 Marlin 39A that used to be my gerandfathers, hence the thread in question.
>>
>>31572495
you better be a really good fucking shot anon.

i was dumb enough to hunt with .22 and i blinded a poor deer. felt like shit ever since.

just letting you know what could happen.
>>
>>31572252
Yes. All the old guys up home used to hunt with a .22 and a flashlight. Aim for the ear canal. Goes right in.
>>
>>31572561
Ear Canal sounds like a decent plan. Gonna google deer head anatomy now
>>
>>31572495
Dont.

Yes, 22 will penetrate (in and out maybe) in a nice clean hit, but ita also much more likely to glance if you hit the skull with too much angle, which could be misplacement of just an inch or 2. You are much more likely to wound but not kill it. I would use .22 on a deer in a survival situation but not otherwise.
>>
>>31572495
Check your states laws on this some have minimum caliber requirements.
>>
>>31572518

I want one of those so bad but I'm a poorfag and never see them for under 500.
>>
>>31572582
The stand I hunt in is on a valley on topish of a mountain. There are rock formations in many places which bottlenecks a lot of the deer. The stand I am using is aout 15-18 feet up (climbing stand) and the pass almost directly below me to maybe a 30ish degree angle. Any others are about 60 yards out and more like 60-70* angle.

>>31572626
It is a great rifle. I got a hood for the front sight, yet I am still having issues getting it bang on when I aim. I need to take this to a range and range site it soon. Thinking about zeroing at 50 yards? I mostly shoot 22 shorts.
>>
>>31572252
Easily, but a deer's brainpan is so small that even a very good shot would have a hard time hitting it under field conditions.

For a moment I thought it said fleshlight
>>
>>31572252
Yes, and the bullet just bounces around in the skull destroying the brain.
>>
>>31572656
Where are you even finding shorts? I can't find any.
>>
>>31572740
ammoseek anon. Check daily. I got a 500 brick for 36$ before shipping.

That only lasted me around 5 days though.
>>
>>31572732
No, when the hp hits the deers head it will cause the brain to bounce around in the skull making it even more lethal
>>
>>31572461
The first time I read about the great emu war is when I realized that the military was full of people just like me.
>>
22lr is a universally bad round for deer.

If you dont have a rufle. At least use a 357mag or a hot 45 at close range.

Most states wregs outlaw rimfire for deer.
