But all this does is disarm poor people who arguably have the biggest need of the second amendment if they live in poor, underpoliced, and criminally active areas. They wouldn't be able to afford all that, but the regular gun owners and rich people would still buy guns, just probably less every year.

Bear in mind the FBI homicide stats are only thirty seconds away from any fact-checker's hands, whether they work for any newspaper or politician.

The average men and women get their news from social media, regurgitate what they're told in a bit for virtue signaling, and don't give a fuck about rights, freedoms, or truth. They barely function above apes and only give a shit about things like instant gratification and their place int he social hierarchy. The ruling class knows how to control them, and so it does, and they don't give a shit because it doesn't directly negatively inpact their immediate happiness.

>No right is unlimited and immune from reasonable regulation.
Let's assume for a moment that I actually agree with this (I do not). Even so arbitrarily (arbitrary because the statistics don't back up the assertations) banning certain guns and types of ammunition is not regulation that I would consider "reasonable" under any circumstances.

>>31572763

>the newest meme is that the Republicans and NRA are forbidding the CDC and FBI from doing something or something else with gun control statistics
The stats posted by the FBI are less comprehensive than the CDC (I suspect it's more complete because it doesn't rely solely on law enforcement to update it) so that's one thing to consider. But it's only off by, like, 100 deaths or something. When I encounter these people I show them that the reason Congress is forbidding the CDC from doing research is because the CDC was caught deliberately misconstruing and altering data to suggest that gun control was the only likely solution to the "epidemic".

And even then there's no ban on gun violence research over the CDC. It's a ban on researching gun control. They never want to research why criminals get guns or how to reduce gun violence through ancillary methods, or the extent to which mental illness supports gun violence (which are studies that have worth outside of solely the context of firearms), or even how if basic training like firearms courses in public school can normalize guns into society to where people are taught from an early age that owning a gun isn't like how the movies or TV shows portray it . Instead they get studies like "what kind of guns do criminals use?" where the only extrapolation that can be gleaned is "well I guess we have to ban those then because the fact that people can buy $100 burners that they dump in the river after the fact is the sole reason leading to a murder using a gun.

It's like having the government use taxpayer money to fund studies that conclude that the only way to fight terrorism is to quarter soldiers in civilian homes without the property owner's consent.

I'm aware that it's a blog, but read the sources cited and move from there. The CDC at the time of the bans was well documented as having an anti-gun agenda. This shit isn't hard to find.

http://thefederalist.com/2015/12/15/why-congress-cut-the-cdcs-gun-research-budget/
>>
>>31574672
Just to add, people think that the NRA was just so god damned powerful back in 1996 that they were able to convince Congress into attaching the rider that would become the Dickey Amendment for no other reason other than because Congress was in the pockets of gun manufacturers. Instead, it was because men like Arthur Kellerman intentionally misrepresented their data. Kellerman was the reason we have statistics like "a gun in the home makes you more likely to die from a gun" because while portions of the data set suggest that once you take other factors into account like "was the murder weapon owned by the resident, or was it brought to the home by another party" or links like drug activity the number is much, much smaller and Kellerman attempts to deflect that criticism.

Other examples to consider:
http://guncite.com/gun-control-kellermann-3times.html

So you have high level members of the CDC and other government agencies in the CDC umbrella publicly admitting their studies are done with confirmation bias in mind in press releases and rags like Rolling Stone along with data that is intentionally misrepresented and it's clear that the "funding ban" was never politically motivated.
>>
>>31574672
>>31574928
Well from what you've said so far, I'd say the funding "ban" was politically motivated. In the sense that if our gov't was more anti-gun, they'd have let it continue rather than stopping it.
>>
>>31575231
I meant politically motivated from the NRA and Congress's perspective. Banning junk science that has the goal of taking away people's rights isn't political. It's preserving liberty. It just came out weird because I'm drinking.
