Other than the SCAR, I would have to choose the G3 platform as my no frills, gets shit done rifle. Sure the ergos are anything to write home about but that is the trade off for one of the most rugged and reliable systems ever put to the field other than the AK. The AR-10 system right now is a clusterfuck of every other company have a proprietary system for no reason but the FAL seems ok

I use Hirtenberger (Austrian) surplus and ZQI M80 for blasting ammo. Get a .30 cal boresnake, a .20-ga bore brush for the chamber flutes and a couple nylon bottle brushes from the hardware store for cleaning out the inside of the receiver. Q-tips work best for getting inside the trunnion, which is where the most hard-to-reach crap is.

i have an old loaded m1a with all usgi parts, its reliable as fuck until you put the suppressor on it. its also awkardly heavy. its much more accurate than a fal/ptr out of the box. still, i dont think its as good of a fighting rifle. the OP has a fucked off springfield mount on his, and i literally used mine as a target one day after it kept shooting loose.

FAL is legit. My shooting buddy has two of them, one brazilian and one austrian, and they both shoot really well. trigger sucks tho, its super heavy.

I also have an oracle hbar 308, havent shot it yet. quality seems pretty decent. it is a dpms tho, so we'll see. i bought it on impulse because of the election.

So what's the big advantage the SCAR has over the FAL, G3, and M14?

The only one I consistently see having advantage over all three is that it's a shitload lighter, which probably makes weight-conscious SFs much more comfortable taking a 7.62 realfuckingNATO chambered rifle with them.

SCAR has lower recoil, you can get AR10s with lower felt recoil because of different gas action lengths, see the MAMS equipped rifle length gas SR25 line. Spreads recoil out over a longer period of time, and it weighs more.

A PCC with a 8 inch barrel is great. A 556 with an 8 inch barrel is dogshit. Both can be built, fundamentally, out of AR upper and lower style components. A 9mm, 10mm, or 45 AR style lower / upper build with a pistol brace is going to cost you vastly less than a real SMG and NFA bullshit.

This is why it's a highly legit HD option. Arguably better than a SBS, SBR, or full length S or R. That said, if your state wasn't bullshit, I'd say put a can and a real stock on it but you worth with what you've got.

It's been discussed before and usually ends up in some shitfest of an argument. Talking about the difference between ARs and BRs is like talking what makes ARs different from other rifles. It's all really arbitrary when you get down to it. The only real consensus that people seem to agree on is that BRs are generally a larger caliber usually around .30cal.

Fact is that what we typically call "battle rifles" (FAL, G3, etc) today were called assault rifles in the mid-20th Century. When warfare mentality switched to smaller caliber rounds, the "battle rifle" label was constructed to separate them from the new breed of assault rifles.

It's not that the bullet diameter is what makes it a BR cartridge. It's that it fires a "full power" cartridge. Assault rifles by definition use intermediate cartridges.

The rest of the "definition" is mostly as it was used by gun rag writers back in the day. The advent of the DMR and CQC .308 rifles have only muddied the waters.
