So this is my first /k/ post. I'm an American and Arizona resident who wants to buy his first gun. I was a "reasonable restrictions" guy until only a while ago but I've turned a corner on that in a pretty major way. What would be a good first gun for someone like me? Looking for something good to practice with that won't be horribly expensive.
An AK variant in 7.62x39mm.
Perhaps a DDI? Or an Arsenal? Buy one and set for life?

>ruger 10/22
Low recoil, cheap ammo, perfect for a beginner. Not very suitable for home defense
>Glock 19
Compact, super reliable and easily available 9x19mm ammo. You can conceal carry it
>mossberg 500 or remington 870
>very common ammo, high recoil for a beginner, but pretty much the best bang for buck gun you can get.

Thanks anon, I'll give those a look

You can build an ar for around 600. Purchase yourself a lower and watch a few videos online about assembling it. They're pretty much just big legos.
>31543098
this is a good idea too; ak ammo is a little cheaper to shoot and it's fun as hell. Whatever you do, do your research first and find something that isnt trash like IO.
All that being said, there is no reason you cant start with a 22 from marlin or ruger; or a simple 12ga shotgun like a Remington of mossberg.
If you have a place you can already shoot like the woods I would get a surplus bolt rifle. Maybe a nagant if you can find one for cheap or a mauser if you can find a place that has ammo for it.
Don't be afraid to ask questions at your local store, just know a lot of people regard gun store employees as dick heads.

anon i think you mean to be doing this in the general threads... This is actually an okay thread.
>>31543119
No woods but there's empty desert for miles and miles just a bit away from where I live so that shouldn't be a problem. I was thinking about getting a bolt-action rifle actually, they just seem really cool to my amateur eye

I agree

Surplus is fine to start on just realize it's going to be heavier and bulkier than most modern rifles.
Recoil isnt really a thing to be worried about with proper stance.
I'd think about building an ar honestly. Pretty cheap and has a HUGE after market for upgrading or specialization and stuff.

Got a link for info or anything? Tucson here.
>>31543114
Ian looks so much more metal here
10/22s are a money pit, but I love mine...now that all the Ruger parts have been replaced.
For bolt action rimfires, look at CZs, Ruger Americans, or Savage Mark IIs. Mueller APVs or Nikon Prostaff Rimfire series scopes are decent for starter options.
A bolt action in .223 is a fun way to go for centerfire, don't feel pressured to go get a semi if it isn't what you think you will enjoy. Any of the major manufacturers are pretty much fine, but a twist rate of 1:9 or faster is preferable if you want to shoot bullets over 55 grains (this will not be hard to fine).

Can confirm, this anon is not just spouting names of things he likes. I believe these are what everyones first guns should probably be.
If youre looking into buying anything else, first conpare them to the models anon suggested first. I'd like to add the mossberg 590 though, it's an updated 500.
>>31543434
There are two regular spots we go to, Miller and another spot off 330th. There were signs on Miller a month or so back that said no shooting but they've since been taken down. There were some cops shooting out there a day ago.

These really make we want to put on a gasmask, a red cloak, get covered in guns and hold up my machinists handbook.
>>31543068
If you want a .22, I highly recommend getting a bolt action .22 instead of a semi auto.
You will most likely find yourself extremely bored in a short time with a semi auto.
If you want a pistol, you really can't go wrong in that area. However, I have to stress that you ought to decide for yourself. Reliability is pretty much the same for everything until you start wallowing in sand mud and water, something highly unlikely for a CC handgun.
Thus, personal preference in terms of ergonomics and trigger and stuff really takes precedence to the bullshit most people will use to try and have you get a certain type of gun (ahemglocksahem)

>>31543563
fucking dooooooooooooooooooooooooooo iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
>>31543195
Fucking kids and your aftermarket fetish. I swear to god if ARs came with all the aftermarket shit by default you'd be swapping it all back to stock just to say you improved it and not even know the difference. 95% of shooting well is the person behind the trigger.
Also
>bolt action surplus heavy bulky recoil
Spoiler alert: bolt gun doesn't mean nugget.
Pure /k/ post 10/10, bet you don't even own guns.
>>31543696
I'd need to get a mask and a red cloak first, sadly.

>ineffectual rage: the post
ARs exist (in the civvie realm) to be a solid basic platform you can bolt your dragon dildos onto and feel like an operator. You will never need it to fight off the gov'mint. You will never need it to feel safe in the nuclear wasteland. Everything that you can use it for hunting is better served by a bolt action. Enjoy the AR for what it is: a toy.
OP, most people buy a bolt action or semi auto .22 rilfe as a first firearm....or some sort of glock 17 or 19. There really is no right or wrong answer here...find something, try it out, love it or leave it. Repeat.
>>31544453
> Everything that you can use it for hunting is better served by a bolt action
Well, except for coyotes, prarie dogs, and feral hogs.
Also, good luck having a bolt action serve triple duty as pest control, shooting sports toy, and home defense gun.
