Does anyone make a lightweight version of this? I love me some traditional front sights but I'm trying to make a 5.5 lb AR build and this is posing a problem.

>Does anyone make a lightweight version of this?
Yeah, my man. They do.
>>
>>31541549
Theyre already pretty skelotonized. And you wouldnt want it to be made out of lighter metal considering the heat it has to put up with. If you want the traditional FSB look this is probably your only option.
>>
>>31541567
Where can I find one then? Google isn't showing anything but maybe my search skills are shitty.
>>
>>31541549
get a cad file of it
make every part thinner
then send it away to be printed in titanium

Dear Diary,

OP came out to the world as a manlet faggot today. He said he is to weak to carry a 8 ounce front sight post.
>>
>>31541549
Seriously?

Angle grind all of it down, cut the sight off, cut the stud, cut the bayo lug, basically shave it down as much as possible. Cheapest and it'll be barely a few grams heavier than any boutique fancy 300$ lightweight gas block.

You can get a magpul plastic front sight later and stick it on the handguard, they weigh nothing.
>>
>>31541680
That's exactly the opposite of what OP said he wanted dipshit

>>
>>31541549
Get one without the bayonet lug.

>still weighs 4x more than a low profile gas block
>>
>>31541878
What's your deal with TL.
Are you afraid of the truth that the marine corps sucks ballsack. Every comic strip he's ever done is beyond true.
>>
Not that I've seen, they're fairly light as is (they're often cut down for use as super light gas blocks). I'd say take a dremel to it

Check it OP, just came out last month. Weighs as much as an MBUS, doesn't clamp directly on the gas block.

Kind of looks like a Kel-Tec sight though...
>>
>>31541549
I truly don't understand how people can be interested in guns and have fucking zero understanding of mechanics, physics, or machining.

Come on smart ass, how would you shave more weight off that without making it weaker?

I've heard this is slightly lighter than a tradition sight block.

>take dremel tool
>cut off bayo lug
>cut off sling swivel eyes
>thin angled part of A-frame
>narrow entirety of A-frame
>take a bit off the backside of the post ears
Excuse the very crude literally-30-seconds-with-eraser-in-paint but make it look a bit like pic related.
>>
>>31541549
>but I'm trying to make a 5.5lb AR build
>the front sight is causing problems
You're only going to change the weight of your AR by at most 3oz with the front sight. There's a LOT of weight to be saved elsewhere. Post a build list and I'll see if I can help you shave weight elsewhere.
>>
i would dremel the bayo lug and sling swivel and contour as best i could. i wouldnt go as drastic as this guy suggests
>>31545636
and then after doing that, i would go with what this guy said
>>31545668
if the fsb is what you want, shave the very minimal weight off and move onto another aspect.
>>31543643
this is ugly as shit, if you arent going to keep the look of fsb, you might as well forgo it.
>jesus, these new captchas
>>
>>31541549
You should have gone for carbon fiber freefloat and a microdot if you were going for sub 5lb OP.
>>
>>31545585
?
A1.5 front - 1.1oz
Faxon .625 gas block -1.1oz
>total 2.2oz

>a2 fsb
4 or 5oz

>>31545805
>my rifle is a work of art, not a tool!
>form over function!
>>
>>31546534
Nobody says he can't still be doing that
>>
>>31548424
he said he wanted to keep his "traditional" sights.
>>
>>31550257
Which you can do with traditional sights. There are lots of freefloat rails, including carbon fiber ones, that work just fine with an A2 FSB.
>>
>>31550279
most sub 5lb builds exclude the FSB
>>
>>31550306
Which is not what OP said he was trying to do. 5.5lbs leaves a bit of extra leeway if a guy really wanted to include it.
>>
>>31550541
Cool. Freefloat is still lighter and more effective and gives you some extra ounces to put somewhere else.
>>
>>31550571
How do you not understand that free floating a barrel has nothing to do with having a fixed front sight? They both can be done at the same time.
>>
>>31550857
freefloat can help decrease total weight quite a bit. Amazing advances in technology over time has allowed even lighter materials to be produced.
