We all know that almost everyone and their mom back in the day made Mauser rifles. Whether under license or otherwise.

But which country made the best Mausers?
>>
Swedes
>>
>>31536983

This. Farthest in terms of quality.

Some of the interwar German ones are really nice. Yugos are decent. Spanish mausers are absolute shit tier.

Germany. Le Swedish quality is a meme; it's the same low-carbon steel as the Germans used, and their heat-treating wasn't any more sophisticated than ze Germans. Runner up would be Belgium, with Sweden and Czechoslovakia tied for third.
>>
Yugoslavia, for that bad-karma, "used for ethnic cleansing" feel.
>>
>>31537244
aren't Yugos just captures that are refurbrished?
>>
>>31537258
Nah, Yugoslavia made their own Mausers. Originally their M24 was a licensed production of the FN 1924, and after the war they made modified copies of the Kar 98, called the M48.
>>
>>31537223
I have a 1916 Carl Gustafs m96, and while I cannot speak to the metallurgy, the build quality is immaculate.
>>
>>31537258
Yugoslavia had three types of Mausers

Only the 98/48's were captures
>>
>>31537223
>same low-carbon steel as the Germans used,
False.
Sweden made a big deal out of using their own super special pre-order only steel, the stuff normally used for tool steel.
The best mausers ever made are the Swedish Mausers made by Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf.
>>
>>31537244
Most Mausers that were used in the Yugoslav Wars were used by Bosniaks, the ones who were getting cleansed

Not defending kebab, just pointing out that most of the ones that were used were used by kebab

I've heard some Serbs did prefer the M48 over their issued M76 rifles because of better accuracy, but I can't say for certain
>>
>>31537503
And they were totally justified, Serbs are gungrabbers, also its funny how you slavaboos try to justify t but ignore the fact Serbs were the aggressors.
>>
>>31537553

True, the "The ones who were getting cleansed" part was what I objected to. Both sides tried their hand at it. The Serbs were better at it, due to basically having the entire YPA.

>>31537580
Serbs were the aggressors, but they were not alone in the local pasttime of ethnic cleansing, both parties are culpable, albeit perhaps not to the same level, the Serbs succeeding by a larger amount.
>>
>>31537619
All sides were, saying both is wrong because there were many sides fighting

>>

True, though only Bosniaks and Serbs were mentioned, hence both.
>>
Yugoslavia mausers are some of the best known besides Brazilian
>>
>>31537660
I like 8mm, it's just a great cartridge

It drops off at a distance faster than 7.62 rounds though
>>
>Long range battle Mauser
Americans, with the 1917 Enfield. Accurate, best sights, arguably best cartridge. Only problem is it's heavy.
>Strong and safe for no goddamn reason
Japanese, with the Type 38 and variants thereof. There was basically no way a bad/overcharged round would fuck up the shooter, even if it fucked up the rifle. IIRC it was the strongest action in an NRA test conducted in the 50's.
>>
>>31537481
The p13 cartridge was a proto 7mm remmag and was a barrel burning turdo.
>>

>>
>>31538144
Factory was located in Koishikawa area of Tokyo, and was known as Tokyo Artillery Arsenal at the time the Type-45 rifle was manufactured.
>>
>>31537370
The problem is that they were the older Mauser action, and don't have the additional strength and safety features of the 98.

Also, they just used low carbon steel. It wasn't the same as German steel, as it used Swedish ores (which are naturally purer).

They are well-made and accurate rifles, but you need to respect their limitations.
>>
>>31537684
Funny, because the Serbs didn't make nearly as many as the Germans did

Two million isn't twenty million, I'll grant you, but it's nothing to sneer at.
>>
>>31538703
I'm not, I just find it funny how commonplace they've become

Most of the ones they made were post-war for the sake of quickly arming the country

And I'll give the Serbs credit, the M48s they churned out are pretty nice guns

It goes to show you that mass production and quality aren't oxymorons, despite what the Soviets and their Nuggets might lead you to think

Zastava was making their M63 police carbines up until a few years ago. They came in 8x57 for the Euro market, and .30-'06, .308WIN, and .243WIN for USA. Unfortunately, Don Mitchell had some sort of exclusive importer deal involving them, and so they didn't sell for shit.

I'd have to give the South American contract Mausers the prize as well. DWM and Loewe did their absolute best on those rifles and I've honestly handled commercial rifles that didn't have a fit and finish of the 91' Argentine I owned.

Not a normal thing to see straw coloring, polished bluing, and case hardening all on a rifle that is completely devoid of any external tool mark.
>>
>>31540028
The surplus rifle, I'm pretty certain you could easily pound a man's skull into chunky salsa with an M1917 and the rifle would just need a wipe down.

The Arisakas are also ridiculously strong, apparently in tests in the 1950's they failed to substantially damage the Type 38 in overpressure tests of milsurp actions.

>>
>>31552418
Weatherby Mark V actions are designed to shrug off loads that would fuck up a Mauser, which is itself a notoriously strong action. The .460 Weatherby has like 7k ft-lbs of muzzle energy, which is a stupid amount of power. Magnum class rifles have (heavier) 9 lugs actions, standard calibers have 6. Both are stupid strong but 9 > 6 in that direction.

I can't see how you could go stronger without going single shot or getting something designed to handle .50 bmg/rivals.
