This was no impressive feat. The missile is fine I'm sure, but this ship (and others like her) are not designed for combat. not even close. What was it carrying? Who knows, but it's not designed to carry more than self-defense small arms ammo. Remember, this is a civilian catamaran ferry with a flight deck. It might be grey, but that's all. It's most substantial armament was crew served weapons, no anti-air, or anti-missle, or anti-submarine armament at all.

Aluminium construction yielded a unexpected benefit during Falklands, the FAA (Argentine airforce, not fleet air arm) for almost of war used rather dated US/UK bombs with traditional mechanical fuses. Against aluminium ship it was found that low altitude hits often generated insufficient retardation to ensure detonation, pre-war test against abandoned steel hulled hulks having proved misleading. Argentine navy had more effective MK.82s with snake eye kits to function reliably at low level (see HMS Coventry attack). Prior to war end electronically armed fuses were purchased from Spain but arrived too late to be of much impact.
Judging from video, C-802 fuse worked. A feat of Chinese engineering indeed.

Actually the missile's pretty great for what it is, it's just a cheap ASM so if you're poor it's a nice thing to have. Like I said above if you fire a lot of them you can overwhelm defenses, so catching a ship in a strait or channel and then zerg rushing it would be the ideal use for this. Honestly I wish we had something similar in our inventory to pass out to NG units as long as it had decent performance as a SSM too. Doesn't really fit in with our doctrine because we have unrivaled air superiority literally wherever we go but I cannot see why an el cheapo version of the Tomahawk would be a bad thing to have.
