Is the M&P Shield 9(with or without safety) the best "all around" conceal carry pistol on the market today?

Glock 26

~0.2" thicker than the shield but shorter in grip length. Holds more rounds and accepts higher cap mags.

P30SK

For the price it can't be beat, so it wins the best for your money however there are many better options out there if you're willing to spend $200-400+ more.

No, the best carry is extremely dependant on what you wear and where you live.

If I live in Maine and wear six foot thick coats every day, I can conceal something much more useable than say someone in Commiefornia wearing a tank-top and shorts can.

Plus, Who knows what kind of shit I might run into if I lived in say, the Rockies?

Fuckin' mountain lions and bears and shit, I'm gonna want more than 9mm.

Well, you pay more for a Glock 43 than a shield, so if Glock is poverty-tier, wtf does that make the Shield? Peasant-tier? Scum-tier? Probably-can't-shoot-when-soaked-in-the-rain tier?
>>
$400+? No; you can find better options at that price point.

For ≤$350? Absolutely. I picked my Shield up for $330 USD and haven't looked back. The gun looks and feels a bit cheap, but I'd be lying if it wasn't reliable.

I just got an M&P last month, my standard mag doesn't doesn't seem to slide in that easily, I don't really have to force it but I do have to give it a good shove to get it to click in.

None of my other pistols have this kind of issue, is it a defective mag or a common thing?

nah that's normal, just keep ramming them in and it'll get easier with time

you may also find the slide not going into battery all the way with new shields. When you load up a mag yank the slide back all the way then let it go.

Why is it every video I see of the Glock 26 shows a malfunction in some way? Every video has comments like:

"Oh, he had limp wrists!"
"The ejector on the Glock 26 gen 4 was shit at first, the updated models are better!"
"The 33rd mag doesn't feed well into the 26, go get flush mags and be done with it!"

Meanwhile the trigger is the worst among striker-fired pistol triggers in its class.
>>
>>31522529
No.
>>
>>31524018
Ive only had a handful of malfunctions with my gen 3 glock 26 in the 2000 or so rounds I have shot through it.

Ive used everything from 115 gr and 147 gr handloads from bubba at the gun show to factory remington 115gr fmj to federal HST 124 gr without issue.

Maybe some guns have problems but mine doesnt. I don't even clean it that often either.

Your b8 is bad.
>>
>>31524731
Nigga plz.

Shield has been out for years now with all the issues ironed out. Plus Apex can unfuck the Shield trigger like they can unfuck Glock extractors.

Shield has the record along with being $100 cheaper, comes with novak steel sights, safety option, and S&W is Glock-tier on CS .

Shield is Coke and G43 is Pepsi.
>>
>>31524815

Only if Pepsi costs 20% more than Coke.
>>
>>31524815
If you compare the QC of S&W to Glock as a compliment, doesn't that just raise Glock onto an even higher pedastal?

Glock QC is unparalleled.
>>
>>31522529

No. First time I shot mine right out of the box, the sight dot popped out (from what I hear it's not that uncommon). The trigger feels like shit too.

You also can't attach a light.

No thanks, I will stick with my g19. Can easily conceal it just as easy as my shield (appendix carry ftw), I get more rounds, better accuracy due to longer barrel and the front and back sight further apart, I can attach a light, millions of after market parts, I can also use a light.

You're an adult, you can make up your own choices, so pick what ever you want to carry.

Just don't let it get rained on or the gun has a 80% of failing to fire.
>>
>>31524926
No, its not. The Brass in your fucking face shit is real, and Glock has been ignoring issues for years. I've also had out of spec extractors on 2 new g19s, defective g26 recoil spring, and a g17 that would not eject correctly.

Their CS is really good at fixing issues, but their QC went down the minute they moved to MIM over investment casting for the extractor, striker, and locking block. Plus Gen4 issues, Phase III G19s, and finish issues as of late.
>>
>>31524959

You can get a scoped k98 in an old man's estate sale for $100 if he doesn't know what it is, doesn't mean that's what they cost
>>
>>31523725

this. I grabbed my Shield for $295 during a sale at a PX. I wasn't even looking at the Shield for my carry gun but I couldn't pass up that price. Haven't regretted it since and it's since had an addition of a Apex trigger kit and TFX sights while still coming out cheaper than it's competitors.

>mag extensions untested/untrusted
Not anymore.

If hardest thing is racking in the first round, I'm not all that dissuaded from purchasing Taran Tactical +3 baseplates and giving the gun a rack clip so that the longer "handle" sits more compactly in my waistband and carrying 9rds in civilization and 9+1 in the hood and middle of the million acre gamelands not far from me.

There are countless reviews of people giving their opinions on the extensions. Some are good, some needed fixing, but Taran Tactical is fairly up to speed now. Heard no complaints from Hyve baseplate owners either.

That makes one of our only 2 red spots disappear.

>ass trigger
Somehow, even as a G43 owner, I wonder if that's just a biased opinion on Shield.
>>
>>31522529
i think so, OP.
>>
>>31532798
>I need aftermarket to make my gun compete
>>
>>31533147

The Shield is unequivocally better out of the box.

If you get a G43 and change the sights, mag cap and trigger it becomes better than the Shield. It also ends up costing about $200 more.

The G43 came to a saturated market late and brought absolutely nothing to the table to justify swapping from any other similarly designed firearm.

Some things I don't like about the Shield
>slide lock cannot be used as a slide release reliably (I know it's better to go overhand but using the slide release has its place)
>to completely dissassemble, you have to drive out two roll pins with a mallet and punch
>striker plunger can't be accessed without removing the rear sight

Other than that, it's an incredibly soft shooting gun for its size and has a respectable amount of aftermarket.

>Glock 43 not complete out the box
False.
If Grandpa /k/ can hit the gong with it, it's good to go.

Unless I get in the middle of a mudslime terror attack in the middle of the night away from civilization, 6rds with second mag for backup is fine. You want to pick on capacity, you may as well pick on every mofo carrying a revolver.

Not to mention night sights simply make it a bit easier to see sights at night. Bright white standard Glock sights are boring, not horrible.

But just because it works doesn't mean I don't want it to work better and carry more. My main goal was merely to get two completed +3 mags from Taran and rock all four mags on my person and in my bag.
>It's not a purse, it's a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.
>>
>>31537667
Not only that but all these single stack 9mm handguns have such small and light magazines, it's extremely easy to carry one in a back pocket and forget it's even there.

I always carry a spare 7 round magazine with my PPS, with the 6 round magazine in the gun. 14 rounds total is plenty for any situation short of SHTF.

Depends what you consider enough. If you're just carrying for fun pretty much it doesn't really matter, just do what you like. If you want to be prepared for a serious possibility of being attacked by armed assailants, a semi would most definitely be better. The thing is, as an intimidation tool any gun does the job equally well. And chances are you won't need the benefits of semi in any real situation.

I carry for protection im skinny and live in fl so its never cold enough to wear anything more then a t shirt a j frame conceals well on me and i figure if i ever really need to pull on someone it will be up close and over within less then 5 rounds seeing most thugs are not looking for a gunfight and run at the first sign of opposition

Anyone carry a Sig 938?

I'm planning to get one in a month.

Any complaints?
Are you ever worried about the hammer falling?

They are good guns but I'd rather carry my Kahr PM9 all day every day.

If there are only two manufacturers who have only just now more or less made something reliable, then it's not reliable enough to factor into a purchasing decision. And like >>31533147 says, you shouldn't be in the mindset of "I'll need to fix this immediately after buying it"

And have you ever shot a factory MP trigger with the split safety? Horrendous. I bought my Shield before the G42/3 came out, so in that time I bought the apex trigger, but I don't believe in buying guns with the expectation that you have to accept flaws that you find unacceptable enough to warrant replacing, so considering an MP having an out of box worse trigger than a Glock is something that should be considered

Glock is poorfag material, carry a sig p938 or a Range Officer Colt 1911 fuckboi

My vote goes to P938. Nothing conceals as well for me
