So I've had trouble with my Norinco shorty m14 since I've bought it.
Initially I had a shitty scope mount on it, I would get Failure to extract (FTE) with said mount
Removed the mount and the problem still there.
I am also getting the occasional failure to feed problem too (FTF)
I have better op rod spring guide coming, but what else can I do to make this chinese rifle not a piece of shit?
I've only fired surplus ammo out of it so that might be part of the problem...
Can anyone tell me about the gas piston? Should it be free floating? it seems to get stuck when i push it back in a certain way and I have to tap it out, is this normal?
I want to like this battle rifle but its being cunty;

It sounds like the chinks made your rails too high. How many rounds have you put through the gun?

By failure to extract do you mean the round was completely stuck inside the chamber? If that is the case something is wrong with your extractor.
If you are getting weak or not positive extraction it is probably either the ejector spring/ejector or extractor spring/extractor.
Do your magazines wobble or are rock solid when inserted? If they are then you should get try a new mag or your trigger group/stock assembly might be out of spec.

I had a ak with a similar problem, my fix was a stronger spring so it forced the piston back in better

If the new spring doesn't fix the problem try asking the folks at canadiangunnutz.
The gas piston should be free floating BTW.

It seems to be floating for the most part but if it's in all the way it doesn't seem to drop out. Same with if it's turned a certain way.
I also can't find any parts that ship to Canada. They don't even ship a fucking spring up here.
