I had an idea, /k/.
What if I took the most weathered, trashy mosin stocks, and filled all the cracks, dings and wear with resin like these pieces.
I work with mold making and resins, so I have enough experience to feasibly make this work
>>
>>31514020
hell yea!
>>
>>31514020
Do it faggot
>>
>>31514020
Do it to a Bubba'd gun, not an original.
>>
>>31514020
Fucking do it, I need to see that
>>
It'd probably look like shit, but do try though. You'd probably be hard pressed to find a shitty nugget stock unless someone abused it or unless it's a t53
>>
One question I had. In order to use as little resin as possible, I'm considering making a silicone mold of my well finished mosin stock so I could place the damaged one into the mold and fill the mold to the brim with resin.
How similar would one mosin stock to another be? If they're both from Izhevsk would it be closer?
>>
>>31514108
If they're from the same model of gun they should be exactly the same
>>
>>31514291
not really. I have a few nuggets, and there are some differences with the inletting. I have to M38s that I tried swamping stocks, but one wouldn't fit the other's stock.

I tried swaping laminate stock on M44s and they didn't fit either. I couldn't be assed to check what the difference was. One of them had difference shaped tangs (ever so slightly) I think.

Although you can always bed it to fit anyways.

Thanks for the input, anons

I know it may take time. This post may even die, maybe. But I'd like to see the results in this post. Or in a new post even. Good luck.

Obviously I lurk too much in the bubba threads. I did almost exactly this like 6 months ago, but instead of using rottedwood I burned figures into mine with high voltage. Also obligatory git gud faggot.

Oh also I used uv reactive pigment in the epoxy.

And here's some pre fill pics of the high voltage scarring
>>
>>31517282
nice work.
I had just looked into your method of burning it after I saw your thread and thought it was mighty clever.
Ever think of putting some of those glowing, not so radioactive vials into the cracks?
>>
>>31514020
that loks really pretty, i have some ideas.
what kind of resin?
>>
>>31517320
Very cool. Looks like you had a much less beat up stock than I've got right now. I'm really surprised the burns went so deep into it
>>
>>31517325
I'm used to resins for the purpose of structure, so I've never had to cast anything that looked pretty without paint on it.
I got the idea from this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnJ6X8UK2so
He links to the resin in his description.
>>
>>31517324
No matter what kind of glow type you choose it fades after a while even with what your talking about so I didn't go for it.
>>31517342
They aren't that deep the very deepest was like .15 inches and that's where I really let it burn
>>
>>31517320
Really nice, I didn't know wood was conductive enough that you could do that.
>>
>>31517372
Talk me through the casting process.
the way I pictured it, I'd lather the resin on one half of the rifle, then let it sit with that side up and repeat after a sanding and scuff on each coat.
>>
>>31517383
They aren't actually, I had to saturate the wood with water and baking soda solution to make it conduct. Look up Lichtenberg figures on YouTube there's a buncha tutorials
>>31517325
I just used loctite epoxy and it's working great. Any kinda resin would've ran off the wood since it curves, or at least any I found in like a day of looking in hobby shops
>>
>>31517441
As I said I just used loctite epoxy for the resin and I put it on the wood, wiped it flat with a putty knife immediately, then cleaned up excess that wasn't in the cracks with acetone after it set in 5 mins but within 20 mins after you put it in. I had to be careful with the timing, to soon and id gouge out the epoxy from the burns, too long and I was sanding it off.
>>
>>31517441
If you use loctite epoxy like I did you can only do about the size if your hand at a time, stuff sets up too quickly.
>>
>>31514020
That looks fucking beautiful, do it nigga

This is amazing as well

Mosins have no collectability, my slavaboo friendo
>>
>>31517830
Some do, most dont, but thats true of any firearm. You think every kicked to shit mauser is a collectible masterpiece? The nice ones should be kept nice, but the vast majority of most guns are fair game for owner modifications.
>>
>>31517880
Lel at least mausers are good rifles
>>
>>31517930
Lel At least mosins have usable sights.

Guns are art, this is fact
>>
>>31517383
its doable but super dangerous unless you are comfortable with extreme high voltage safety.

bitches bedropping dead left and right pulling transformers out of microwaves and running the current through salty moist wood and having the super high voltage arc through moist air
>>
>>31517383
Be very careful and use this technique if you want to not die

Do it to an AR-15 stock.

B-but those are usually polymer.
It would be ugly.
Unless that's the point lol

PFFFF, Just dont be a retard about it, Im the Guy with the mosin above and it was easy as shit. Discahrge the capacitor when you take out the transformer so you dont die. Dont put teh leads onto your bare skin, wear thick rubber gloves and have someone else with you just in case. But do all that and you wont kill yourself with high voltage. Its basic shit to anyone who has ever worked with power tools in their life and isnt a NEET. Heres a pic of my set up with the transformer the power cord from the microwave and a pair of jumper cables.

Thank you for the compliments, but anyone can do this with a bit of not-even-that-hard work.
