okay /k/ red pill me (if im using that right) on the m&p shield 9mm.

im about to buy one for my every day carry maybe some talon grips and an alien holster. using hornaday critical defense or z-max
>>
OP here, i was also looking at the one with the safety.
was also thinking of .380
>>
>>31513942
>Critical Defense/Z-Max
>not Critical Duty
>not Gold Dot
>not HST
>not Winchester Defend/Defender/PDX1

It's like you don't want to shoot carjackers through the door.

It's thin and the capacity is decent once you upgrade with Mag Guts. I like mine.
>>
>>31514023
Isnt critical defense made for short barrels and critical duty for full size?
>>
>>31513942
>alien gear

please no.
>>
>>31513942
get it in 9mm
its the perfect carry gun
use speer gold dot +p
critical duty is decent but speer is the king of consistancy
>>
>>31514045
no

http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/self-defense-ammo-ballistic-tests/

look through all of this
>>
>>31514045
Critical Defense is made to break apart when hitting barriers, Critical Duty isn't. Though the design of Critical Defense makes it expand less in smaller guns.

Gold Dot, HST, and Winchester all work fine through pocket guns.
>>
>>31514066
I would NOT recommend anything Winchester
their ammunition is sub par and inconsistent
>>
> not getting it in problem solver caliber
It's snappy... I'd probably get the 9mm version with the safety if I had to do it again. It's very easy to swipe the safety down and I feel less freaked out reholstering with the little block holding the sear down...

>use speer gold dot +p

Not OP but I dislike how snappy it is compared to regular hollowpoint ammo. I originally intended to use gold dots because I shoot lawman ammo exclusively but I carry 124gr HST's instead.

As for OP, I would do the following
>buy Shield with no thumb safety
>completely avoid Alien Gear and go straight for a good holster from either JM Custom, Custom Carry Concepts or Raven Concealment
>get either Trijicon HD's or Dawson Precision fiber optics
>test out HST's, Gold Dots and PDX1's
>shoot it and see if you need something like talon grips or a pearce magazine extension to improve your purchase on the grip if you find it slipping away

I recently removed my granulated talon grips off my Shield and I'm going to order some rubber ones.
>>
>>31514048
then what?
>>
>>31514093
Winchester White Box is steaming shit

Their black box ammo is actually pretty nice though.

Yeah they can fuck off with that, I don't feel like getting clicks when I need defensive ammo to go bang.

I also left out G-Code. Seriously, Alien Gear is trash. They don't hold up well and have sharp edges.

Also don't forget to get a good gunbelt. Brands likeAres Gear, Volund Gearworks should be looked into.

A test using non-FBI standard ballistic gelatin where you don't take temperature of the test media and don't do a BB calibration before every string of fire IS NOT OK.

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/09/09/clear-ballistics-gelatin-not-performing-like-real-ballistics-gelatin/

LuckyGunner's test is unscientific and overall flawed.
>>
>>31514177
>im a fucking 4 foot 80lb manlet and I can shoot it fine

Shoot it through several drills on a timer then shoot normal ammo through it. After that, compare times.

Your stature doesn't indicate how well you can shoot a gun. All you did was admit you're a manlet. Big whoop, you can make itty bitty 2 inch groups at 7 yards untimed with no pressure on a B-8 target.

Manlet.

>>31514197
>being consistent over every one of their own tests is non scientific because it doesn't align with someone else's standard

>>
>>31513942
Can't say much. I've got a m&p shield in .40 without the thumb safety. 9mm is a good choice if you're a novice shooter, 40 has definite snap to it and takes some getting used to. I don't carry so no reccomendations on holsters.
>>
Question: why does everyone hate the shield with safety? Pretty easy to flip off and on while drawing or aiming, and if you're CCing on a college campus or somewhere full of anti-guns like I plan to, it's added security so that nothing goes wrong.

Is there something I'm missing as far as safeties? As long as you practice flipping off the safety, is it such a risk to have it on?
>>
>>31514443
I dont know, on my taurus slim the safety is one of my favorite parts big and easy to flick down. I just dont like how i have to turn the safty off to cycle it though.
>>
what about federal HST or guard dog?

im a fan of federal ammunition
>>
>>31514443
One more thing that cockblocks you from shooting someone in the face as quickly as possible.

Easy to flip off at the range doesn't mean easy to flip off when you're being stomped on the ground by a mob of pissed off shitheads.
>>
>>31514443
Haven't played with the shield, but I like safeties for pocket carry just in case I fuck up and something gets inside the holster.
>>
>>31514595
HST is top tier, but I wish they sold their 147 grain standard pressure in local gun stores instead of police supply stores only.
>>
>>31514605
this is a very good point, you just made me rethink on getting the safety version.
>>
>>31514630
On the other hand, most casuals that would grab your gun and attempt to shoot you with it don't think about turning off the safety, which is a five second mulligan for you to do something about it.

I personally carry with a safety on if open carrying or carrying in a bag, but no safety or safety off when concealing on body.
>>
OP here,
so i will be getting the shield in 9mm with federal 147 HST, with a manual safety, and talon grips.

what about holsters since people are hating on my alien choice.
>>
>>31514605
Yeah I get this is the main argument against safeties, but I'm paranoid that something might get inside my holster and cause a ND. On a college campus that would pretty much be the end if my educational career there, and make me a pariah among my peers.

I still think a safety is better than no safety.
>>
looking at magguts to add a +1 or +2

anyone have experience with this? will it affect feed or reliability?
>>
>>31514443
What is the deal with anons so concerned with anti's feelings? Who gives a fuck? Some one else was saying rifles should be carried in a scabbard so they won't look as scary.

And this is the only place i hear such bullshit.

>>

>>
>>31514443
you actually train with the safety. Most of them learned on Glocks and having anything on the slide but serrations and punisher skulls trips their nerd rage. Considering it's a tiny nub that isn't in the way and can be left off they have no actual reason to bitch, but they whine so much companies offer non-safety versions of models designed with safeties.

Vedder LightTuck IWB + mag carrier because Pearl Jam

Id go rubber, they stay grippy even when your hands are coated in crisco and they dont grab on shirts like the sandpaper ones do.

Also I would be wary about magguts as ive bought and cycled them in a shield 7 and 8 round magazine (9mm) and theyve both had binding issues where they fail to feed so i switched them for the OEM internals, shame too.

holster wise where are you gonna carry it on your waste, appendix? 5 o clock? different holsters for different shit m8.
>>
>>31515926
buy GT-5000 tape and do the pattern yourself, you'll save $50 by the time you use all of it.

>>31515973
I'd advise against the V-Crowns for 9mm, they're ok in .40 and .45
>>
>>31515973
>You don't even need a gun belt, just something decently stiff

Like a gunbelt?
>>
>>31513942

Has a good chance of not working if it gets too wet. Even the hi point functions better when dirty or even after fully submerged.

Other then that, the trigger is meh and the paint in the sights have been known to pop off when shooting.

I prefer to carry my glock 26 over my shield. Almost same size, I found my 26 to be more reliable (couple thousand rounds, no issue) while my shield has maybe had 1 stove pipe. Also more rounds, easy as fuck to find after market parts, I enjoy being able to have the ability to slap dif size mags in.

In the end it is a pretty decent gun. Swap the trigger and keep some back up sights incase yours does shit the bed. Also price is good for poor ppl, I spent about 320 after taxes.
>>
Guys I'm new to /k/ and I don't really know jack shit about guns but what can you guys tell me about a mauser c96? Were they any good or are they shit guns?
