Because, at the time the Soviet Union could have pushed all the way through to France and Italy with the forces amassed through Europe, and it was preferable to declare peace and rebuild than start considering another war because of Stalin's empire building.

If they'd been given eastern Europe, they would have annexed their way to Paris and then said "why do they persecute me so?" when people fight back. To a Russian, the west is just temporarily misplaced Russian territory.

Churchill, Patton and some other did plan up Operation Unthinkable.

But Ike decided that it was too risky.

A good example of someone who was smart were the Finnish. They knew after stalingrad the soviets would have overwhelmed finland and gave them a nice communist got. So they said "fuck this have some land and money, plus you can humiliate us." They knew the soviet union was basically unstoppable after stalingrad.

Churchill proposed hitting russia after the Germans fell. The plan involved nuking Moscow and Stalingrad, as well as pushing all allied troops in the European theater into Russia.

It never happened due to the fatigue the allies felt, and due to the fact that US forces were still spread out in the Pacific.

The allies also didn't want to look like the aggressors in a war against the Soviet Union.

Given the endless tide of Russian soldiers it would have been a long and bloody war.

It's also worth mentioning that Hitlers Operation Barbarosa was a massive failure do due intelligence underestimating the Russian war machine. The Allies didn't want to make the same mistake and risk losing everything they gained from the War.

At the beginning of the war, the Russian population was roughly equivalent to that of the US. They were very close to being bled white, which is why they were using women in combat roles. What they did have was concentration of forces working in their favor.

They would have been pushed out of Europe if it had come right down to it, but it would have been unimaginably bloody. US losses would have been in the millions, most of Europe would have been effectively depopulated, and Russia would probably wind up at 50% of their pre-war population.

That post war world would have been considerably different. Somebody like Brazil very well could have emerged as a superpower. And all of Europe would have been a sparsely populated Third World wasteland, dependent on foreign aid from places like Haiti and Iran.

The same reason why we had to drop the bomb in Japan and end the war sooner: people forget that the American (and probably other allies) public was already getting real tired of the war. The government was genuinely concerned about losing support for the war before they had done everything they needed to. Starting a second war with our former allies? That would fuck everything. Not only would the public hate it, but it would tarnish the reputation of WWII as a "good" war. Better to end it on happy terms (well, happy for the U.S.).

The western allies didn't give a shit about eastern europe or jews or the holocaust. All of that bullshit was just made up to sell the war to people, the real reason for the war was because England and France saw Germany rising as the new European power and wanted to put them down. Unfortunately for them they ending up getting the shit blown out of them and needed the US to come save them, so once Germany was defeated and the Soviets came out as the new power in Europe they said fuck it these guys are even stronger than the Germans and decided to try to keep what little power they had left and make friends with the Soviets. Which is why they got rid of Churchill assassinated Patton and gave jet engines and nuclear secrets to the Soviets.

Basically it's all the England's fault that millions of Eastern Europeans had to live under decades of oppressive communist rule but are still considered the good guys cause hey at least it's not Nazi rule right haha.
