I agree with you on HK often being overpriced and high on their own farts but the P7 was their peak. It's their masterpiece. It is something so original and such a technical wonder that it's unlikely to be replicated. It would just cost too much to develop and produce it.

Basically HK wanted to do make what they thought would be the perfect police handgun. It had to be:
The safest
The most reliable
The fastest to draw and fire

They achieved all these things. It can eject without an extractor reliably, safer than what Glock eventually came up with for a safety all while matching the speed on target.

It launched at about the same time as the first Glock and for double the price. Glocks were less safe and less reliable but they were close enough for their simplicity and cost.

The P7 still stands alone though and likely always will.
