How about a gun store stories thread?

>go inna local gun store for ammo sale they're doing
>neva bin there befo, but they got gud prices on some .22LR
>ask owner about shop's transfer fees while inside
>pretty much the lowest place within 100 miles of me in my shitty state (40 flat)
>tell him I was looking at getting 3 funs/receivers online and having them shipped
>"Hold on anon, how about you look at our inventory instead or have us order it for you?"
>looked at his prices online already
>wouldn't have to pay shipping, but the same guns are an extra 40 each (and an extra 15 on the receiver) and I'd have to pay tax on them for an extra 50ish on top of that
>want to support, but that's too much
>offers me $10 off the order
>"Sorry, that's too much for me still."
>he starts getting kinda frustrated and tells me that local gun businesses are hurting and he can't lower it any further
>feeling bad but I still don't want to pay an extra $150+
>"Well, I'm gonna have to raise the transfer fee then since we already have those in stock."
>tells me it's $65 for the transfer now
>I decide to just take my ammo and leave
>hear him ranting about some shit behind me to one of his employees
>decide to go to other store nearby
>"$50 per transfer or $100 if it's something we have in stock, LMAO"
>they have the fucking guns in stock
>their prices are even worse than the first store

Jesus OP, what a fucking nightmare.

>live close to FFL's
>5$ fee

Feels good man.
>>
>>31509020
That is pretty shit. My local place does $20 per gun, but has a decent selection and price through their online distributor.

All my best stories are just finding good deals, no nightmare modes.

>see 1982 Ruger mini 14 at local store
>original everything, Redfield 2-7x, S&K scope mount
>$650
>broke af atm
>suggest it to waifu
>she falls in love with the kawaii Garand action
>buys it immediately

In the same store I've gotten a Tula 1951 SKS for $350 and a Dan Wesson model 15-2 in .357 for $400

Problem is ammo can be pricy. $.50/round for 5.56mm is too steep.
>>
>>31509020

Not a story that involves me, but a customer:

>neckbeard regular walks into the store looking to buy first revolver
>he bought a U22 NEOS about a week earlier, okay guy, kinda awkward
>asks to see a Colt SAA (aka best gun ever made) that we had in stock
>its worth about $2,000
>asks if he can hold it
>give it to him and tell him not to dry-fire it, its too old
>pushes cylinder release, looking it over, nothing's really happening

God fuck, this next part hurts

>I look away for one second because coworker was trying to tell me something
>he whips the cylinder closed
>gives it a HUGE spin
>he's about to try and do cowboy action, rapid-fire hip shooting
>I yell STOP so loud I could've raised ancient native american spirits from the dead
>nearly shits himself in fear
>i take the colt back and told him to leave the store and never come back

Luckily, he didn't break anything. He also gave us a 5-star review on yelp afterwards, I guess to make up for his retardation. Can't say I feel bad though. If there was so much as a scratch on that gun, I would've gotten railed for it.

>Ok fine thats not your fault
>Wait
>3 days later call and ask if it came back
>"no"
>"well can I have it anyways cuz I waited the 3 day FBI minimum"
>"no we have a specific policy against that"
>wait another day
>get a call the check came back
>go in and get gun
>kid working counter tells me that everyone for the last 4 days has been getting delayed and it took them 3 days to notice how they hadn't sold a single gun successfully because their computers were messed up so they couldn't receive anything from the FBI

Moral of the story is don't buy guns from Dicks
>>
>>31509020
Check if there's any of those guys who doesn't own a store and just has the FFL out of his home near you. I get $15 transfers that way.
>>
>>31509020
Do you have any tabletop FFLs near you? There is a guy locally here who does transfers for $20 and thats essentially all he does. Once your shit comes in, he schedules you a 15 minute slot to come in and pick it up. Thats $80 an hour for him, assuming that person only transfers one firearm.

Fuck gun stores dude, local one told me $80 for a transfer and i asked him why its so high, his response was its a lot of work for them
>kek
Also call any local pawn shop that deals in guns, a lot of times they'll have cheap transfers. Lowest I've ever found was $10, the one I used the most was $25

>he's wearing plaid, a john deere hat
>starts talking to another old guy there about guns

>he buys it and leaves
>I spend a little more time in the store wondering if I should buy a Ruger 10/22 they have on the wall when the guy comes back in looking kinda pissed
>"Ya' gave me these small shells I can't do nothin' with."
>Apparently he did want buckshot
>employee apologizes and goes to get the right ammo, but fudd asks for the manager
>makes a big shit about it and says the employees need better listening skills and that he wasted his time
>he leaves with a free box of ammo
>I think I'm just as confused as the cashier

Don't recall going to a range where that was a rule, but many require you to bring a gun to rent a gun. Or to bring a friend.
>>
I live in NY and my LGS has always has mountains of .22 ammo in stock at 10 cpr so I never understood why people were complaining about not being able to find .22 for sale. They charge like $30 for 10 round 10/22 mags though and everything they sell except ammo and used guns is jacked in price by a tremendous amount

Worked for them for a Christmas season out of desperation. Everything about their gun policies is fucked. They used to horde .22LR at their distribution warehouses so they could sell it for normal prices on Black Friday. Also, never ONCE in their policies do they call on employees to clear and safe a gun at a retail store. They hired a bunch of people during the Christmas season, said they were for permanent (not seasonal) positions, then laid everyone off after New Years. Except for the fat moron who didn't know shit, and convinced a customer that .300 Win Mag is right for his .300 Savage. Him they kept.
>>
>>31509020
I know the pain all too well OP.

I really want to support my LGS, but I'm on a tight budget and can't really afford the extra markup's for the guns in store.

I try to buy most of my ammo and mags locally if I can, however. But a lot of times they don't have those either.
>>
>>31509020
Sounds pretty shitty OP. I go through a kitchen table FFL now. The guy carries very little inventory (a tiny cabinet of ammo, ~6 used long guns, ~12 used handguns, and a ton of AR-15 lowers). Transfer fees are low. I've bought or transferred 6 guns with him. Only shitty part is odd hours and that he's out of the way.
>>
>>31512449
They're selling them again at their new Field & Stream stores. I figure it's only a matter of time before they return to regular stores. Even in NY, they have cucked AR-15's, Ares SCR's, cucked M1A's, FNAR's, and a fair few other options.
