http://www.defensenews.com/articles/british-naval-commander-wants-us-marine-aviation-on-aircraft-carrier

>The commander of HMS Queen Elizabeth, Britain’s new aircraft carrier, would like to see US Marine Corps F-35Bs and V-22s embark for up to nine months at a time once the warship becomes operational.

>“We’ll certainly see some footprint aboard the ship. The big question is do they deploy with us much longer term in the future, maybe for six, seven, eight, nine months from when we deploy. That’s what I would love to see,” Capt. Jerry Kyd said.

>Confirmation that the Royal Navy’s 70,000-ton aircraft carrier force would embark US Marine Corps (USMC) F-35Bs came during a meeting between UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon and his US counterpart, Ash Carter, in London at the start of September.

>Fallon said that eventually British aircraft could be deployed on US aircraft carriers.

So paying for most of the NATO and UN forces wasn't enough?
>>
>>31501107
its mostly to give the carrier crew training while waiting for the arrival of the RN/RAF F35B.

the original plan was that the planes would arrive before the carriers were completed, but lockheed are lockheed.
>>
>>31501080
Neato. It's not like this hasn't ever happened before.

British RN Harrier squadrons have been stationed on US Carriers before, and vice versa on ships like Illustrious.

This is pretty neat
>>
This is one of the most interesting possibilities of the F-35B. Unlike Rafales & Super Hornets landing on each others carriers and refuel, the F-35B will be almost exactly the same across all countries using it. So every country with a STOVL carrier outfitted to operate the F-35B will be able to; refuel, rearm, and maintain each others aircraft as needed for operations.

britain is also enquiring as to V22 exports. The Joint Special Forces Aviation Wing (british 160th SOAR) uses V22s leased from the US for SF and SFSG to use.

I think we could do with osprey.

It's insane that that thing has a similar (or even smaller) crew requirement to the Invincible class, despite being more than three times the size. Hoping the engines testing goes well.

There have been similar relationships between the U.S. and France as well. Interoperability between allies is good.
>>
>>31501080
This is good, Britain gets some much needed carrier experience and the US gets to visit a few new ports and get drunk with the bongs.
>>
>>31503076

That's a question, will QE be making her way to the US to pick up the F-35s?
>>

Thats the most likely thing to happen.

That seems like the less cost-effective option.

is this a reference to battlestar galactica or historical colonialism

>its mostly to give the carrier crew training while waiting for the arrival of the RN/RAF F35B.
Not to mention cross-training is something a lot of militaries do these days.

It's pretty much an open secret that Canadians served in Iraq 2 during some officer exchange program we had going on. US aircraft on a UK carrier, and vice versa is just an extension of that same concept.
>>
>>31503146
Colonialism what if we were actually being used by the brits to do all their fighting for them? what if that have infiltrated our government on every level? what if the special thing is actually them in charge and they just pretend to tag along?

I can't be 100% certain, but that photo almost definitely predates Battlestar Galactica by a decade if not more.

Australia has a bunch of f-18's. Why not use them?

Honestly, this kinda thing irritates me. Europe as a whole is able to afford public healthcare only because their military spending is so low. They could really be doing more.
>>
>>31503336
Europes military spending is low because they're being tards and pumping money into the EU, thinking the EDA will actually stay together if invaded.
>>
>>31503336

F-35Bs.

>>
>>31503425

You'd think you'd notice the ramp on the OP image.
>>
>>31503456

Just bongs for now.
>>
>>31503402
Generally curious to why that is bad? The suspension can surely take the shock. Is it the lack of power? I thought that's what the ramp is for, to compensate for low speed.
>>
>>31503469
>>31503460
No i mean are aus getting f35bs that hey can use their ramp of nothingness for?
>>
>>31503494

And I said just the bongs are getting them for now. But there's been some speculation about Australia doing it.
>>
>>31503473
Because the ramp makes up for not having a catapult 1:1.

Don't be daft.

>tfw you suddenly realize you've never gotten a good look at the teeth of any sitting President!

But is that it then. Not enough room even with the catapult.
>>
>>31503559
It doesn't help that much.
>>
>>31503559

No, mate it really does need it.
>>
>>31501080
So how would going into combat work like this? I mean i'm assuming this first deployment is just going to be exercises and foreign port visits, but if they did, say, go bomb whatever Middle Eastern nation is taking it up the ass that year, who would be in charge of deciding targets?
>>
>>31503694

The anti ISIS coalition already does this. It was fascinating that involved in that strike on the SAA accidentally in DeZ were aircraft from USA UK Denmark and Australia (I think). Though even that is just a continuation of the joint air operations from Afghanistan.
>>
>>31503694

Whoever had the intelligence in the area, pretty much. The US and UK are probably the most closely trained two nations in the world right now in terms of operating beside one another. It's very seamless.

This whole thing is great. Literally everyone wins in this case. Brits get more planes in shorter time to train with full decks immediately while their own deliveries ramp up, the Murricans get more platforms willing to carry their 5th gens to strike from.
>>
>>31503336
>>31503336
>Honestly, this kinda thing irritates me. Europe as a whole is able to afford public healthcare only because their military spending is so low

that would be a argument if the UKs defense spending wasnt one of the highest in the world, and at the 2% gdp level
>>
>>31503133
>UKIP bringing back the 2nd British empire with their version of the 2nd Amendment when?

American here. I crave for fellow European superpowers again to buddy up with. Imagine if like a ton of other right wing movements made their nations great again and start massively militarizing, colonizing their former 3rd world holdings again or new areas like the oceans, space, or some scifi shit like finding a stargate etc.

Good. You found the NATO budget. Now look at the cost of the actual military force at NATO's command. Notice that the US military makes up well over 70% of that? Right.

Anyone know if USN FA18's can operate off the CDG?
>>
>>31504801
They can take off and land on it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOIhKtvWQYU

They can't actually operate off of it without a hell of logistical baggage though. It doesn't help that the Hornet and Rafale don't really operate any of the same munitions besides the Paveway.

I believe there's also been talks of Rafales flying from US carriers, since the CDG will be in mid-life refit from Feb 2017 to at least Aug 2018.

European military spending is low because for the most part they're very small countries. UK, France and Germany are the only really relevant European nations. And even then if the deutsche bank collapses Germany might be fucked.
>>
>>31504396
The European right is massively different to the US one. It wouldn't end well for anyone. UKIP are slightly different in that they're not too authoritarian. But in France, Belgium Germany etc. They're pretty much neo-fascists.
>>
>>31501560
>British RN Harrier squadrons have been stationed on US Carriers before
Maybe on the LHD/LHAs, but I doubt they were ever stationed on actual carriers as the US defines them.
