Looking to get my first shotgun for $300 or less, is the maverick 88 my best option?
>>
>>31494831

What? The Mossman 88 is like under $200. Just save up a few more bucks and get a Mossy 500 for like $350 or some shit.
>>
>>31494831
Walmart sells mossberg 500s for like $280
>>
>>31494916
In Pennsylvania?
>>
There's nothing wrong with an 88.
>>
>>31494831
Check your pawnshops for great deals.
Got an old Ithica 37 for like $250.
>>
You can get an MKA1919 or clone for like $385 these days.
Literally why the fuck would you buy a piece of shit like a Mav 88?
>>
>>31494968
The Maverick 88 is functionally no different than a Mossberg 500 except for the safety location. The only big difference is that the finish is shittier and the fit is a bit worse. That said, you could look for a used 500 and hope your state isn't one where people try to jew the fuck out of you for used guns like mine.
>>
>>31494831
It's one of your best options. Stevens 320 is another. You can also find Benelli Novas in that price range occasionally. And of course the Mossberg 500

Sport shooting or home defense?

this, got my mossberg for $200
>>
>>31494935
Probably. I'm in New York near the PA border and they're $276 here.
>>
>>31494831
got a dicks sporting goods around? go there the day after thanksgiving and pick up a mossberg 500 for like 250
>>
>>31495125
Wood and heatshield are the only way to go. Mossberg is quality for budget pumps. Be a real man and save 1200 for a trenchgun or your peen will never be satisfied.

Also I bet a certain pcc zach will lurk this thread. You know who you are.
>>
>>31495232
Saved up 1500 and get a browning citori. What's the point of owning a shotgun if no one around you knows how much better than them you are?
>>
>>31495113
Both, finally got my first car so I can actually go shoot it. I have a Remington 780 in 30-06 and have been itching to shoot it again.
>>
>>31495312
Sorry, 783
>>
>>31495286
Because the trenchgun is the most aesthetic shotgun ever devised.

Buy the model with the sporting barrel.
Buy the 18.5" barrel next.
Buy the buttstock that suits your body instead of the one that looks cool.
>>
>>31495616
How much do you think I could get if I traded in my 783? I've been reading up and the mossy 590a1 looks really good.
>>
>>31494831
what barrel length and capacity would /k/ reccomend for a balls deep defensive + offensive shotgun
>>
>>31495232
Damn you. I'm getting my mossy wood soon and hitting the range.
>>
>>31496134
18.5 or 20 inch
Magazine capacity should be 4+
Situations requiring more than 4 shots from a shotgun are an extreme irregularity and are usually more the result of an idiot who doesnt aim his shotgun becausw he thinks all he needs to do is just point it down a hallway and oull the trigger.
>>
>>31496033
590a1 is overkill for your purposes, its literally for people who just want a military spec weapon. Like a gun that gets used roughly, oiled little, dropped, thrown, eats sand, and used as a blunt weapon for 20 years and still usually functions. Unless your need a firearm that can be jammed into a bulkhead door on a navy ship that someone is trying to close without the barrel being dented, a mossberg 500 combo kit that comes with an 18.5in and 26in barrel can be had for 350-375$ at most gun stores and will serve your purposes just fine with a light and mount added for home defense.
>>
I live in California and I picked up a 500 for $250 from Big 5 of all places
>>
>>31494916
>>31494935

Drive to winchester va and get it for $180
>>
>>31499500
Where the fuck is it for 180 bucks?
>>
>>31499522
Walmart at 2350 S Pleasant Valley Rd, Winchester, VA 2260. I just called to confirm, it's actually $188. Pretty sure they have a savage 12 ga pump for $178 if you want to just buy whatever is cheapest.
>>
>>31494898
I just got a mossberg 500 for 320
>>
>>31494935
Pardon me that's the mossy 88, not the 500. My bad.
>>
>>31499570
>>31499576
Dammit this is why I shouldn't post on a phone

I own a 500 and an 88. Ironically, I shoot the 88 more and love it more, it's nice and broken in. Smoother than my 500 action.

Bought it for $150 off Armslist from a beaner who shot it once and kept it for home defense. Had a couple of scratches, but nothing a swipe of a blueing marker couldn't fix.

Get the 88 OP. Make sure you get the combo one that comes with a 18.5 and 26" barrel so you can shoot skeet. Shits fun.
>>
>>31500278
I'm at the shop now, they're gonna take my 783 for 150. They have an 88 for 225 and a 500 for 350, should I go for it?
>>
Don't cheap out desu
get a Remington 870 or a Mossberg 500, for only $0-50 more
>>
>>31500278

is the 88 considered front heavy like the other mossbergs?

is the safety postive in terms of engagement or does it feel flimsy?

This, a pump action will always work until something breaks. Then you need to consider availability of parts and ease of repair. You can get a "hunting"(wood) furniture 870 and outfit it as you go along and it will provide a sturdy and reliable shotgun that will fit in your price range and have a plethora of aftermarket parts all of which being readily available.

The only thing i would suggest more than the 870 would be the 590A1 because you can then have a shotgun for your bayonet....assuming you have a M9 bayonet...otherwise go with the 870. At the end of the day its your choice, just dont make the wrong one because you want something right now
