What's the statistical chance of getting a waiver if you get a 90+ on your ASVAB?

I fucking know. I shouldnt say anything. I'm not gonna lie.
>>
>>31491657
Getting special strings pulled for you due to a good ASVAB is a myth.

"Wow, you got a great score, maybe I can call in some favors and hook you up" is the line they give to literally anyone with a 60+, and it's bullshit.

The ASVAB is just there to filter the jobs you can pick, it doesn't give you a backdoor to get around an otherwise disqualifying condition.
>>
>>31491870
I didnt think I'd get a free handy J under the table if the Army thinks I'm intellimigent.

I just thought that if I make myself the best candidate possible they might see some potential worth pursuing. As opposed to telling me to kick rocks right off the bat.
>>
>>31492089

Nope, most of the people involved in the waiver process won't even know your ASVAB. A high ASVAB doesn't make a "good candidate", a good candidate is someone who is qualified for a job you have open and doesn't have any disqualifying conditions.
>>
>>31491657
Things are either waivable or not. If you have a disqualifying condition or potentially disqualifying condition just lie about it.

Alright, I'm borderline panicking a little here guys.

I found a sergeant who's willing to process my waiver application, but he asked for comprehensive medical documents. I've had to go back and edit out all the mentions of bronchitis and a knee injury, since they appear on every single page my GP gave me. As far as I can tell, my work is flawless, but I'm going to wait until Friday before I submit it to make sure everything is consistent.

This is the most in-depth act of dishonesty I've ever performed and it feels fucking rotten.
>>
>>31495110

You know how people say shit like:

>Don't worry bro, worst case scenario if you lie you can just say you forgot, not like they're going to actually charge you, they might just kick you out.

Well that doesn't apply once you actually start forging medical records, especially since you're apparently the kind of guy that wants to let everyone else know how clever you think you're being. When they throw the book at you, they're going to throw it hard.

>>31496703
I can tell you what EOD training was like 10 years ago, it probably hasn't changed too much except for a few of the end courses they were just rolling out at the time.

I was Army, but EOD is a joint training school and the classes are mixed branch, so everybody literally gets the exact same training.

Off the street chances of making it were around 70% dropout in my time IIRC. Though a huge maount of that was in probably the first 1/4 of training. If you made it past the .50 caliber test (which was very autistic), you had a great chance of passing.

They do live demo training almost first thing. I think it's to weed out the people who can't deal with live explosives. It's surprising how many people turn into a nervous mess around a blasting cap.

I was pretty pumped to join the military right out of high school and fell for the muhreen meme. Halfway through I remembered oh shit, I'm allergic to peanuts and probably should mention that. Now my parents who never wanted to me to enlist in the first place said just join the Air Force and don't mention it at all. I even met a recruiter who basically told me to not be truthful about it. But I decided to just try the honest way anyway and got a PDQ for my trouble. Then I tried again with the army and got the same result. Now almost three years later I don't like where I am in life at all and still want to join the military, but its probably too late. However the marine recruiter apparently couldn't find any record of me at all, which gives me some hope of having a blank-ish slate.

If you do run two days in a row it will be sprints/speedwork one day and distance the other. That won't wreck you the way 'normal' runs every day can.

In the process of enlisting. 93 on ASVAB 125GT score.

Primary interest is 18x or 11x option 40 contract (I am /fit/ I wrestled in college).

My concern pertains to security clearances. I smoked a lot of weed in high school and college. Total of over 500 times easily but no arrests or paper trail. I have good references to put down for the clearance paperwork, but if they ask those references for more people to talk to, then my weed use will probably come to light.

As far as I understand it, 18x and 11x option 40 require a secret clearance. I am not very worried about obtaining a secret clearance because my record is clean. I am worried that if I go 18x that I will need a TS clearance which will get denied due to marijuana use.

How likely is it that I will need a TS clearance if I make it through the 18x pipeline?

Can I just lie and vehemently deny any allegations of marijuana use throughout the process of obtaining a TS clearance? Even if friends/coworkers say I smoke weed?

I haven't heard of SOF needing anything beyond a Secret. There might something down the road, who knows, but it's unlikely.

Pretty much anything in intelligence requires a TS, though. But in SOF, even 18F (ASSISTANT OPERATIONS AND INTELLIGENCE SERGEANT) just needs a Secret.

>>31499748
Hey man, I don't know anything about going 18x, but I know about clearances. Let me give you some advice. If you smoked weed, tell your recruiter. They'll ask you again at boot camp, and you don't want to be stuck there for months waiting on a waiver/go to AIT and be stuck there waiting for a waiver. Start that shit now, it will be done by the time that you finish boot camp. Hopefully. Option 2 is you can lie. I don't condoned this, but it will get you through MEPS/Boot/ with no problems. If you do need a TS, and your friends/family tell on you, you'll be in a shit ton of trouble. It wont be as if you had told them from the start and you can just obtain a waiver, they'll deny your clearance for lying and fuck you over. If they don't tell on you, and you manage to go through all the paperwork for the TS, you better fucking hope you can pass a poly lying through your teeth about drug use.

Listen man, tell your recruiter, fill out a form, get that clearance and go kick some ass. No one cares if you smoked a little weed. You can still get a TS having smoked. If you've done anything harder though, lying is your only option.

This is all assuming that you need a TS. Otherwise, you do you boo boo. You won't be poly'd for a secret.
>>
>>31499844
Yeah man, you're fucked. Doesn't matter when you stopped use, it's the fact that you've used it. No TS for you. Again, if you "forget" to mention it, you'll be fine for a Secret. And again, I still don't condone lying.

>>
>>31499829
Bumping this
>>
>>31497776

Basically my first recruiter fucked me over and said I should be PDQ'd before I even gave him any documentation.

My new recruiter said the other guy was a faggot and I'll easily get in as long as I submit everything again with a written statement. He just told me to get my medical documents to back everything up.

I'm gonna sit on this a while and really consider if I'm making the right move, but I'm not really to pussy out just yet.
>>
>>31499929
In the Air Force the magic number is 7. If you've smoked 7 times or less, you're golden. I don't have a clue about the Army though, I would ask your recruiter. You might think that's crazy but it's in his best interest to inform you before you answer him on drug use.

The way I see: You sign up, divulge your "7"times of use, get a waiver, boot, AIT, turns out you never needed a TS, 18x time
OR
You sign up, you divulge your "7"times of use, get a waiver, boot, AIT, turns out you need a TS, you're questioned and you tell them you smoked weed and they can look at your waiver, 18xtime

As long as you admit to using less than that magical number I was talking about, and your friends/family/coworkers/school faculty/classmates don't rat you out, you're good to go.

Make sure youre able to pass the physical fitness test for your countries army. Then work on your endurance so you are able to sustain walking/short sprinting for long distances and being able to carry 25% of your body weight as well as lift 15% over your body weight at least 5 repetitions. Also work on your swim, look up standards for your countries military and aim for your score to be between the minimum and maximum at least.

Knowledge wise, land navigation with and without compass, basics on plants(whats the most common poisonous and edible in your country), basic firestarting, how to cut down branches and small trees, how to filter water, and how to build a shelter.

Having some kind of knowledge on those things is pretty useful in general, because in the regular army, i would say the majority only know 1 or 2 of those i listed. And in my experience, familiarization is better than knowing nothing.

Marine recruiters will give you fitness advice enough to make you sick.

Most people can get through boot as long as they're physically sound and really commit to improving while they're there. But as long as you've got three or four months to run and do pull ups and get used to some remedial weightlifting, you'll be in a much better position when you arrive and be less likely to injure yourself.

How bad is the drop out rate?

Are pullups that hard?

I'm going to commit to this. But I want to know every single way to attack it.
>>
>>31501602
Boot drop out rates are low, it's not nearly as physically or mentally demanding as you might think, but it pays to be prepared. Pullups are relatively easy, but doing them when sore and tired makes it a bit more difficult. If you're interested in a combat job, try to make RECON or MARSOC because regular marines aren't doing much in the quasi peace time we have right now

By 15% over i meant dead lift or squat. Basicly if you weigh 200lbs be able to lift 260lbs. Just make sure you are able to do bodyweight plus some weights, even if youre doing pullups plus 15lbs. Think of it like this, youre wearing full kit and pack which is an extra 40 lbs and you want to climb into a house window. You need to be able to push yourself up and over.

It was only when i worked for a joint unit with named agencies that i needed a poly.

When talking about the US military(any branch), unless it's army special forces(green berets) then what you're thinking of would likely be considered a "special operations force". Just a fun fact.

A large reason for the high drop outs is CoD kids who think they're the shit and washed up frat bros who think they can hack it. And it's not really that large of an issue if you do drop out, because at that point you'd be better trained than 99% of your fellow marines, and would be put in a more advanced unit.

But real tips tho, don't go marines. Marines is for minority's and people who that the marines would still be as cool as they were 20 years ago, and there's few ways to advance your career as a marine. The whole "no elite marine" mentality has totally ruined their capability to have tiered units, like how army has regular army<Rangers<Special Forces<Delta or the navy tiers of UDT<SEAL<DEVGRU(team six for people who think they know what they're talking about). There are some more specialized units in the marines, like snipers and EOD, but them and RECON isn't even officialy a SOF.

Um yah when you fail out of anything you are subject to needs of said branch. End of story. Sometimes they will filter you into something you are qualified for but 9/10 you will get sent where they need you. I was in the navy and ive seen both NUKE and SEAL failouts become undes and spend 4 years chipping paint. Plus ive heard stories from dropouts of SF and rangers on here saying how they got sent to be cooks. Sometimes they go to an infantry/air borne unit sure but again, at the end of the day its all about what they need at that time.
The moral of the story is if you are going for a hard program you better not fucking fail cause you are gonna get fucked either way it just depends how badly.

I broke my knee in high school, allergic to whole slew of shit, and broken hand when I went to meps.

Don't tell your recruiter anything at all, whatsoever. I are in perfect health when you walk in there.

My chronic knee pain? Service related now.
Allergy to bees and honey? Service related.
Fuckes up wrist?
Well you get the trend.
If you wanna join, don't let them know anything is wrong whatsoever. Wait a few months, or go to a new recruitment station, but don't hand over those forged docs.
I practice law now, and we just had a case where a pfc forged his medical documents and his recruiter accepted them to go to meps, and the recruited got cut because he had to many counseling and 2 art15s for processing recruits through with disqualifying medical.
He sued the pfc for loss of livlihood.

Option 40
>>
>>31503976

Start working out NOW if you aren't already. Aim to get a 300 or better on the PFT before you ship out forget the minimum requirements.

What you want is 11x option 40. This will give you a guaranteed shot at RASP. If you fail out of RASP then you are still 11x. DO NOT VOLUNTARILY WITHDRAWAL or you will never be allowed to do cool stuff ever again. If you don't make it due to injury then you may get another shot.

18x is not an option for you because minimum age is 20 I think.

Recruiter may give you a hard time but hold out till you get 11x option 40 in your contract. Recruiters are more willing to work with you if you are prompt, professional, and have a high ASVAB and APFT score. Good luck

If he is a virgin cause he is waiting till marriage thats fine. Tell people how you feel and theyll bust your balls a little sure but theyll respect you for being honest and staying firm. I just removed individual lines pertaining to shit I don't even remember ever having when I was 12. Turns out I was prescribed an inhaler after inhaling too much campfire smoke on a camping trip, and the single line "patient had reactive airway disorder as a child" appears at the very bottom of every medical document I have. I'm already cutting it close with my current waiver, I don't want to tack an asthma waiver on there too.

I'm literally the healthiest person I know besides this one misdiagnosis and one ancient diagnosis. But it's already held me up so long.

My Ranger class graduated 65%. My Ranger School class graduated 33 out of 175.

The difference between those numbers are the 65% are actual Rangers who showed up ready for the challenge, educated and in athletic condition. The 175 were simply people from around the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and foreign nationals who didn't know a thing about rangering. You can guess the majority of Ranger school graduates were Rangers.

Ask me how I know.
>>
Whats it like being in the National Gaurd?

the recruiter put a real pitch to me but i feel recruiters shouldn't necessarily be trusted. I wanna go to college for infosec and i figured that the national guard would be a good way to supplement the college costs so i don't have negative net wealth when I leave college, while also getting infosec training.

Depending on the job you pick, you'll go to training for quite a while which will probably delay your graduation by making you miss at least one semester. You will hate AIT, like everyone else does, but still want to go active duty at the end of it, like every other reservist/guardsman. Unfortunately, going active isn't usually an option. After that you will drill two days a month and never do the job you trained for.

Depending on the state, the benefits can be really nice when it comes to education, plus you get access to pretty good healthcare and a few extra bucks a month. Unless you're in some kind of high-speed guard unit, you probably won't get any good schools or interesting TDYs.

If you could actually get into a cyber (infosec) guard unit that would probably be a whole different story. Unfortunately, the guard does not have cyber enlisted slots yet. Even if they did, the pipeline is long and brutal to do cyberwarfare stuff in the Army.

All-in-all, there are trade-offs, it just depends on what your goals are.
>>
Britfag here.
Been a reservist for a little while (Just finished my Bravo). I have an application for the regulars and they're attempting to dig really fucking deep into a shoulder injury I went to my GP about (turned out I had just overworked the muscle).
My support manager is making a massive deal out of it but I completed my Alpha and Bravo after I saw my GP and the pain turned out to be fucking nothing in the end. I'm really worried that my support manager is going to fuck up my application.

My goals are to make my college experience as debt free as possible. I was told the Navy is where you want to go if you want to get into infosec, but i don't want to be a career serviceman.

I'm also looking at the CyberCorps Scholarship For Service which has something like full ride + 22,000 stipend and a guaranteed job with the government, but i was not a good student so i don't know what my chances are with that.

Thats exactly why you SHOULD go active. You dont need a 20 year tactical plan, just choose a rate/MOS that seems cool to do for 4 years, have some fun then get the hell out and use the Gi Bill. If youre gonna be in for 4 you might as well get the most you can out of those 4 and that comes from being active.

Even more simply than whether you'd like the military, your knees are something you should keep in good order as long as possible.

Hey armchair recruiters, I'm hoping there's an armchair lawyer or two in the gaggle.

So I spent 8 years in the Army as a combat engineer and got out last year (thnx me 4 my cervix). People know I was in the service but I don't broadcast it except for when it's story time and I have an amusing anecdote. I don't talk about deployments or combat for personal reasons.

So long story short, I have this one coworker who has decided to make my life a living hell. She's said as much to our middleman coworker. This week she filed a false HR report that I was starting rumors and discriminating against her because she's a lesbian (which is fucking hilarious since I spent like $200 on drinks at a gay club with some friends last month). She did this, again, because she wanted to upset me.

Anyway, she went and fucked herself because she was telling people on Veteran's day that she doesn't respect me because I was never in combat so I'm not a real vet. I was and I am, so we can get that out of the way right now.

Anyway, I want to make this whole situation go away. I don't care that she has some harpy vendetta or that she's broken into my email or given my phone number to any scam website so I'll get a million telemarketer calls a day. I honestly don't. I just want to do my job in peace.

I figured the best way to do this was to tell HR that I'm going to a veteran advocate because she is actively making my workplace a hostile environment towards veterans.

Do any of you guys know what area of the VA I might start poking around in? The VSO directory is pretty vast. I was thinking of giving the USERRA office a call, but that seems more geared for reservists having employer issues and not a petty office squabble fueled by an anti-soldier asshole.

Please note that I have gone through every available local avenue on this one. I've thrown irons in the fire inside my employer's structure, but none of them are guaranteed to glow hot. I just want a big gun in my back pocket on this.

If you're a male you should be coming in under 10 minutes. That's the reality of it. Anything over that and you're going to find training more difficult than it need be. Go to a proper running shop and get measured for some decent shoes (Mizuno, Brooks, Asics etc) and socks.

When I was in, I prayed President Bush would send us into combat. Later, I got a combat jump and a CIB.

>Implying that presidents directly order around individual military members.

POTUS strategic decisions usually pass through a couple people before they even hit the first person in uniform. Then they pass through another 20 levels of command until they actually hit someone in a position to do anything.

The truth is it doesn't really matter who CIC is when it comes to "following orders". Flag officers and below will be making all the decisions that actually matter when it comes to mission.

What really matters is who controls congress, since they're the ones that actually control pay and bennies. You know, the shit that matters.

It's basically low-intensity hazing.

what if we offered h1-b visas for military jobs?

wouldnt think make it easier to get recruits? it helps in the private industry.

we could pay the soldiers less, and ship them home after they are done fighting.

third worlders arent as fat as americans, and it could help get recruits.

then normal americans wouldnt have to fight, and we could hang out here and get a basic income
>>
>>31524639
this would also help too since when we go negative interest rates we can have the military liquidate our populace easier

plus, third worlders are used to fighting. we could perpetually be in war.
>>
>>31524652
part of shipping them home would help negate health care costs.

we could ship them home after their service.

then we wouldnt have so many suicides that make the country look bad.

whats the problem with running every day. I'm in highschool cross country with a dream of being in SF and I've ran almost everyday for the past 3 years and feel fine every day. Not to sound rude but Im curious about why you said not to run everyday.

Was just diagnosed with two herniated slipped discs with fissuring. Not sure I'm gonna make it anymore.

Teachers make mad dosh when they have tenure
Teachers make nothing when they don't have tenure
>>
>>31524845

People say don't run everyday because 300 pound guys who have never run a day in their life will try to start all at once to try and join the military. This turns their joints to dust.
>>
>>31524924

They really don't. Public school teachers in most areas make like 60k tops even after tenure.

I was doing better than that 4 years into my enlistment.

Competent medics (IE, both fit and a medicine nerd), cyber guys (HUGE right now), certain linguists, all-source analysts, and intel systems techs are usually in high demand.

There are actually a fuckton of different cool support assignments, but most of them require you to be in and cleared to really pursue.
>>
>>31524845
They're not ready. If you've got the build for it, it's okay to start running every day, but alot of people will have to work up to running every day so they don't hurt themselves
>>
>>31524962
>make like 60k tops
Soooo, same as an E-9? (non-SOF of course)

Both are dead end as fuck.
>>
>>31525044
Kek. I was making more that as an E-5.

You're the dude that just shitposts about how bad you think enlisted life is though, so carry on.

Hell, my base pay didn't even make up 50% of my overall pay until I hit E-6
