I recently aquired an MAS 49, but there is a problem. I took it to the range the other day and started firing. After expending 3 rounds I pulled the trigger once and it fired 3 times.

Was this gun originally made to be automatic? It scared the living daylights out of me so I don't want to fire it again if not. I've taken it apart and it doesn't look out of the ordinary.

What gives /k/?

Take it apart and clean it good.
The mas 49 is about as simple a design as guns get. You should be able to find out why it's slam firing.

Isn't this rare as fuck? How much did you pay for it?

nice syrian contract MAS

what causes slam firing is the trigger group being too low, so the bolt isn't cocking it. the rear stock probably isn't screwed in tight enough

you can experiment if it slam fires by holding the trigger and racking the bolt with no mag in

if tightening the stock screw doesnt work you might have to sand off some material to make the trigger group seat higher

I didn't, my dad died and he had one.

Just clean the bolt and firing pin channel. It has a free floating firing pin like the SKS, and soft primers are prone to slam firing. Alternatively, you can hunt down a titanium firing pin. That will also solve your problem.

Sorry about your dad bro
But I had some range friends who have those and they tell me that they had this problem before too

Here, it's about $90 unfortunately.

Am I the only one who thinks the plain Mle.49 (especially the Syrian contract with spike bayonet) look way better than the 49/56?
>>
>>31488761
No, that's one reason I've waited so long to get a 49/56, because my 49 is so much more appealing. Mine isn't a Syrian contract however.
>>
>>31488295
It's a known issue. You'll have to switch for a titanium firing pin.
>>
>>31488761
isn't that one super long compared to the 49.56
>>
>>31489584
It's about 2in longer.
