ITT: /k/ creates a new bullet measurement system.
Current caliber, millimeter, and gauge measurements don't capture the full power of each round.
We need a new system that lets each round truly shine.
TMP
As in Treyvon Martin's Penetrated
>>31482025
A good start, but since only one type of round was used it doesn't include all others.
>>31482004
Weight x Speed x Diameter
In gramms, meters per second and millimeter
Maybe we could start with just accurately giving a bullet's measurements.
>Call 5mm bullet 4.85
>Call 6.7mm bullet 6.5
>Call 6.5mm bullet 6.35
>Call 6.2mm bullet 6mm
>Call 7mm bullet 6.8
>Call 7.2mm bullet 7mm
>Call 8.2mm bullets 7.92mm
>>31482053
I like the math behind it, but would we total it up into a new unit, or just display it in that format?
>>31482108
Just take the total and call it something like "Cartridge Power Unit"
Yes, CPU for firearms
>>31482119
give some examples
>>31482108
Grains per second
>>31482151
.22LR Eley Match :
2.59*331*5.588 = 4790 CPU
9mm NATO standard
25200 CPU
5,56×45 mm NATO (green tip)
22351.2 CPU
With 5,56 being weaker than 9mm I just realized that it's a shitty idea in fact
>>31482004
The actual bullet diameter is measured instead of the bore diameter of the rifle.
>7.82x51mm NATO
>7.92x39mm
>5.7x45mm NATO
>7.92x54mmR
>9.01x19mm NATO
>9.27x18 Makarov
>>31482239
>9.1x33mmR
>9.1x29mmR
yeah that's not confusing at all. And doesn't REALLY tell you the difference in power between .357 mag and .38 special.
>it's 4mm more powerful
I've always thought that a good measurement would be "Death Watts"
It corrilates to the amount of kinetic energy transfered to the target.
>>31482004
I prefer the current /k/ system.
>gud
>meme
>>31482004
Like this.
Inches will just be relative to cock size's affect on a woman's vagina. 8 inches would be .45 ACP, 1 inch hard would be 9mm, 3 inches would be .22 etc.
Methinks velocity should be involved in the measurement somehow.
Memellimemeters
Capture the ratio between ballistic performance/kinetics and actual self defence statistics and personnal expérience.
Ex .45 is 1 memellimemeter whereas 9m is only 0.3
meme percentages
first, post a picture of the cartridge to /k/ with a caption that reads: "meme cartridge?"
out of the first hundred replies, take the number of times the cartridge is called a meme
example: 5.7x28 would probably be about 50%, where 5.56x45 might be 15%
>>31482004
>furlongs
how many furries will it go through before stopping when fired from a 7 inch barrel 30 feet away
followed by
>matfurs
how many of those furries will collapse to the ground and have stopped moving 30 seconds after the shot was fired
of course this will require extensive testing for each round
>>31482949
>>31483079
Meme science. I like it.

How about a system based on the average number of bullets it takes to stop an average charging Alaskan brown bear in ?
We'd need to start a brown bear breeding program to provide enough bears, but any excess bears (bears which are either too small or too large to fit the average bear size criteria) would be released into the wild thus helping the bear population.
For example, 9mm Luger would be something like 18 Luger. 9x18 Makarov would be something like 30 Mak. .30-06 would be 1.6 Springfield.
If the cartridge was super powerful, we could add another charging bear behind the first charging bear. So .460 Weatherby Magnum would be something like -1 Weatherby.
Kinda like .45/70 or .50/90.
You use the caliber and its equivalent in grains of black powder.
>.22lr is .22/15
>.50BMG is .50/4600
>>31483531
>my .50/4600 buffalo gun
>>31483444
With enough tests on bears, no two cartridges would have the exact same bear-stopping average.
Therefore, we could just use the bear number.
"Whatcha carrying?"
"Oh, just my 6 bear."
>>31482053
That already exists. It's called the Pondoro knockout scale.
>>31482119
That's fucking stupid.
It should be diameter x joules.
eg. 9mm x 520J
