Does anyone know what the longest range, defensive shooting scenario is on record? Do not include military/police incidences. Those don't really count in context. I'm talking private citizen, who shot someone from a long range in self-defense, and it was ruled as such or at least no charges were brought up.

I saw an interview of a guy who shot an assailant with his pistol from about 100 yards if I recall correctly. There was an altercation down the street and the assailant engaged an officer on scene with his rifle. The neighbor perched behind a tree and returned fire when the assailant began firing at him.
