The Bushnell 1-4x is VERY entry level--the turrets especially are very spongy.

However, if you should find that you like that style of optic, they're a good intro to the 1-4x and you can upgrade to something a little nicer like a Vortex Viper PST 1-4x or SWFA.

So, I need to replace my A2 birdcage that came on my current barrel. I'm torn between the Jerry Miculek, and the VG6 Epsilon, leaning more towards the VG6. Anyone here ever use both or have a side by side comparison?

the miculek says it's a compensator but I think it's a brake, the Epsilon probably has a lot better flash suppression

also does the miculek have great big holes on the top? if it does, I would shy away from it. I think applying downward force is just compensating for lack of reduction of the rearward motion.

That doesn't mean it can't be too much. The side ports aren't cut at perfect 90* angles, they're closer to 75* and provide some downward force.

I will say that while it's an extremely aggressive brake it's not as bad as, say, an M4-72 or a Bennie Cooley Rolling Thunder. It's a good choice as long as you don't have a rifle-gassed HBAR.

Gas volume is fine. Gas pressure is down somewhat. Still plenty to drive an aggressive brake.

A brake on a 20" rifle is about 85-90%% as effective as the same brake on a 14.5" rifle.
