There simply isn't a performance advantage that SCAR variants can provide for 4x the pricetag. certain individuals pop up every time a SCAR is mentioned and say things like "It's made of aluminum and plastic! It's cheap! The AR does exact same thing! It's over rated junk!" But these people have one thing in common, they have never used one.

There is a reason why it is expensive - it's an excellent high quality rifle, and FN still has manufacturing rights/patent so everyone and their dog is not making them like the AR platform, reducing the overall price. Since it's only Fn that makes them and it is high quality, the demand is high and the price stays high.

It would be nice if the scar haters would get their hands on one for a day. They really are a great rifle and handle & shoot in a way that makes you understand why they are somewhat expensive. When you reach out past 100 yards and at 200, 300, 400, 700, 800 the rifle is still shooting 1MOA/sub MOA you have to ask yourself how much money would you spend to build an AR platform rifle that has the same accuracy, longevity and reliability. They have been torture tested to hell and back and have proven their worthiness.

AR's are great, i have no problem with that. i can see why the AR is an excellent choice for lots of applications and will probably stay that way for a long time.

I did own one and I sold it. In it's place I built an AR10 on a MEGA arms receiver and I am more than happy with my course of action. I am not knocking the SCAR, but I will say I would take my home build over a SCAR any day. Simple things like putting a surefire muzzle brake on are made a chore because of the profile the SCAR barrel has. Suppression is far better with a DI gun, especially when I put an adjustable gas block on it. Parts availability is next to non-existence with a SCAR. Granted your bolt shouldn't shit the bed before 30k rounds, but what if it did? Guess you aren't shooting your $3.5k gun any time soon. Finally, the trigger on the scar is utter shit. Yeah, you can get by with it, but I guarantee you that you need a Geiselle or Timney to see the Scar to it's full potential.

nigga whut? sf gives you the spacer specifically for use on the SCAR platform. If putting on a spacer is a chore well fuck. I have a complete extra bolt for my 17s that I picked up about 6 months after sandy hook, but never got around to picking up a spare firing pin. The trigger comment I can agree with but if you bought it last year/ 2yrs ago then you could get the G trigger for free with the FNH promo.

You misunderstand. Yes, surefire gives you the correct spacer to put on the barrel. What I'm getting at is the shoulder is next to nonexistent on the barrel so centering up the brake is not as simple. This leads to an increased chance of brake misalignment and baffle strikes in your suppressor. Some people make aftermarket adapters and shoulders, but it's not the most desirable solution.

I have a PTR with a 16 inch barrel whose system has been tested to hell and back for decades, the only advantage the scar 17 has over it is weight and ergonomics. Yet those factors don't justify 3x the price as it doesn't offer 3x the performance.

No one is hating the Scar, but as it stands right now it simply isn't cost effective for what it offers
