Some people hate on the Ithaca 37 because:
1) It has only one transfer bar instead of two (But do you actually need two? No.)
2) You can't do a quick reload where you load a shell straight into the chamber.

Other than that, they're good to go.
>>
>>31387422
no their is no problem, they are solid guns.
>>
>>31387550
Yes you can load one in the chamber, as long as your not a idiot
>>
>>31387422
They're not quite like a Mossberg or Remington, but other than that, they work perfectly fine.

>>31387550
>duckbill choke for horizontal spread
>no ejection port on the left or right side of the receiver
I always felt this was the closest you would get practically to the original Doom shotgun.

I'm a lefty and haven't had problem with 'right handed' shotguns.

This is true in the fact they are not complete shit and still maintain qc

It is actually, you have to hold it upside down. I own a 500 too, and I see no point in the drop in thing
>>
>>31387422
I guess my question is why would you want one? Bottom ejection is cool I guess but the Ithaca is an outdated design and the bps is rare.

I'd get a regular side ejecting pump like everyone else and wait for someone to make a modern bottom ejector for a reasonable price.
>>
Ithaca 37 owning Ithacan here posting from Ithaca. Fuck yeah! Do it.
>>
>>31387867
One of my favorite features is being able to eject a spent shell about ~20' with pretty good accuracy.
>>
>>31387422
As a fellow left i understand not wanting shit flying in front of your face. Get it. New ithaca are awesome. Too bad their forum is dead and all tge good revies are 2-3 years old.

Since this is a shotgun thread I figured it's best I ask here. Is there a good home defense gun that a woman can use if I'm not home?

20 gauge semiautomatic shotgun.
Any pistol caliber carbine

Or, provided your woman isn't a little bitch any gun you'd use for home defense.

"GOOOOOOOAL!"
>>
>>31387981
Is your woman recoil shy?

if so get a 20 gauge. though i'd sooner train her on all of your weapons so she can use em without fear.

>>31388151
Best way to overcome recoil fear is experience. Take her to the range if she's willing.

Left handed Mossberg 835 owner here. Get what you like or whichever is cheaper. And no, nothing wrong with those guns pictured.
>>
Horry shit! Ithaca is an Ohio company now.

Guess I'm buying one.
>>

^this

Thought between a carbine and 20ga for my gf. Decided on a .40sw HiPoint carbine for her. I need to get her comfy with my Zastava m88a 9mm, then move her up to the pump 12ga.

Or get her a 10/22 and a 20/25rd mag. Getting shot with 10+rds of .22lr would deter most two legged animals from continuing whatever they're up to.

I think she'll be fine. She's not a stick so I have done confidence she'll get the hang of it.
I figure a decent home defense load will hopefully negate accuracy issues while under duress.

Oh, is it true that the sound of racking will deter most intruders or is that just a meme.

I don't honestly know, the only time I've had a break in the dude ran off after my porn started.

Tactically speaking though. i wouldn't give up an extra shot for a maybe.

It's kind of 50-50. It will deter anyone who doesn't intend on hurting you. But so will mentioning that you're going to shoot them with a shotgun.
>>
>>31387897
A trick I've done and seen others do is to eject the case as hard as possible and let it become a target for the next shot.
Easy with a few trys.
>>
>>31388337
Agreed. Its like a tactical light or flashlight...it advertises you're armed. You don't go walking around a dark house with a flashlight on to go after the intruder...it just tells him where you are in the house.

Are you supposed to walk quietly with your light off until you need to aim?

I honestly don't know much about this but I really don't want to take any chances with all this blm bullshit. They're getting embolden to do stupid shit. At least that's my perception, I could be wrong.

I must admit I've never gotten the chance to shoot a shotgun. This might sound odd but I'm nervous trying after my back surgeries. I don't know what the kick is like and while I won't hurt anything I don't want to be in more pain than I have too.

20 Gauge autos are good for women, has the same kind of velocity and shit as 12 Gauge, just a smaller lead load, so way less recoil (but still very lethal, 00 and No.4 lead shot is good shit).

Mossberg SA20 is one.

At least do her the favor of an ATI stock if it's something she's gonna rely on.

Also Hi-Point came out with reliable 20rd mags for the 9mms, go see if they have higher capacity mags for the .40S&W ones

It's a fudd meme.
>>
>>31389424

That's bullshit. It's true. The problem lies with the term "most intruders".

Most will pass on the "Meet My Shotgun" experience. There's not even a question that this is a fact. Get a hundred people and see how many want to keep trying to get into the door with the shotgun being racked behind it.

The problem is that you don't get to pick who your turd for the day is. You might get one of the crazy motherfuckers who brought his own gun and if you do you better be ready for what comes next.
>>
>>31387422

Their qc has been a roller coaster like everyone else's over the years. The current company is doing a damn good job though

I honestly hate the idea that pump guns are supposed to be mcpaycheck tier cheap. The M37 predates the era of baragin bin shotguns. This isn't some elitist rant but acting $600 is expensive is pretty relative.
>>
The one thing I wished for m37 is cheap parts and support. Parts, stocks specially, are insanely expensive and the only cheap way for a replacement is to go aftermarket synthetic (which I did. Synth stock + wood fore looks pretty nice actually)

Lefty here. Right side ejection is a non issue but a bottom is fine too.

It's your house...you should be able to find your way around in the dark without issue. If not, you need to practice. I can walk around my house at night in the dark without bumping into anything. Just follow the noise. The intruder most likely does NOT know his way around your house, you have the advantage. The minute you rack a slide or turn on a light, your announcing where you are.
Being a citizen of shithole Detroit, chances are an intruder will be armed and willing to fight/shoot back.

Don't fear the shotgun, don't feel bad. I acquired mine about a year ago and still haven't ever shot one. If your confident in your abilities, you should be ok. I'm only 5'8, 175 and have a bad spine myself. The pump doesn't concern me. Just be confident.

>>31388826
In a house where potential overpenetration may be a concern, #4 buck is my preference. From what I've read, that's what a lot of LEO's have loaded.

>>31388857
Thanks. Redball only makes it for the 9mm though. However, looks like ProMag fixed their issue on their 15 rounders. BTW, I hate the ati stock. I have a newer 4095ts model and like the stock just fine. Just needs side rails.

>>31390850
I'd never buy a new SG, unless it's a higher quality semi. Even then I'd search the local pawn shops. For a pump, pawn shops are a great place to get a cheap pump SG, even a good semi if you can find one.

>I can walk around my house at night in the dark without bumping into anything.

So can I, and I agree it's very important.
But I feel like you should light up your target before you shoot. 1)to identify the target (make sure it's not your slut daughter sneaking back into the house after fucking a chad) 2)disorient 3) shoot accurately

I've had a couple of back surgeries and even picking up a gallon of milk hurts. I'm improving just nervous.

The BPS is pure sex, Its the only firearm I inherited from my grandfather because of being wrong handed. I use it for everything, shooting clays and hunting partridge and keeping me safe when wandering in the woods.
>>
Wal-Mart's selling a semi auto 12 gauge for $226 right now, it's called a "Hatfield SAS". I bought one and it was shit. The rails it's bolt rides on are jagged and pitted to shit on the edges and the bolt handle fits so loosely in the bolt assembly that it flops around. I get the impression firing it would lead to catastrophic failure.

I've got to call "Hatfield" tomorrow and get that shit sent back for repair or exchange. I bet the process will be fuckery though.

The fuck did you do? I had spinal surgery about a decade ago, but even I never had issues lifting small stuff.

Did they fuck with your muscles with multiple incisions or something? My muscles tissue still hasn't properly healed after all these years, but at least I can buy milk on my own.

I'm 8 inches taller than you but weigh 5 less pounds. Can't tell which is worse tho. Can shoot shotguns and don't get floored so if my frail frame can take it you probably can too even if your back is fucked.
>>
>>31389501

Exactly. If the intruder intends to die and make a scene, the racking sound will only help him locate you and it will be worse.
