Has America ever fought in a more physically challenging environment than Afghanistan.
>Around half the country is over 10,000 feet
>Steep mountains
>Mountains so fucking steep and rocky patrols a forced to carry all of their shit dismounted
>100lb+ of shit to be accurate
>Patrols a dozen miles long are a daily expectation
>Despite altitudes temperatures are in high 80s to 90s during the summer
>Spinal injuries account for over 8% of hospitalized troops
What else am I missing?
korea

Do they know how many people froze to death?
>>31382501
Well, it IS bad but dont forget that you can bring supplies via helo.
That being said, Afghanistan is prime country for elite units. You have the long, hars conditions where their training really makes the difference. Also Afghanistan is sniper wonderland. If you are a sniper or DMR you really can show what you've learned
>>31382501
Depends, I'd rather trek in mountains that are as dry as your mum's cunt than in rainy jungles, getting eaten alive by giant mosquitoes, but that's just me.
>>31382630
i wonder when we go back to jungles humid conditions we'll go back to just lbvs and boonies.
Or will congress and general politicians demand we carry everything for forprotection to due to media and everyone yelling at them? This bullshit about commanders discretion is never really his discretion
yea afghanistan is pretty fucked up you can get pinned down in the open easily
case in point:

Helicopters cost thousands of dollars to operate on an hourly bases. They aren't going to make a special drop at your squad's observation post each and every time you leave the wire.
>>31382508
This
>everything OP said
>but cold
>and then some
Shit man we were in the jungle.
>>31382501
Yeah, but its challenging for everyone else too.
Think a big key to our long range patrols for 6-12 days was the fact we toughed it out where the enemy wouldn't go because it was 'too hard' and they never expected anyone to come from certain directions. That 5000ft pain barrier of altitude though, shit that'll make you figure out who you are pretty quick smart.

You fucking short ass children don't even know what the fuck you're on about
>>31384663
He means from a terrain/topographical perspective. No one here believes the Afghanistan War was America's worst war in terms of level of violence/men killed
>>31384663
Summer is almost over komrade
this is the hardest summer we have ever fought
>Ground so hard you can't dig in
>Ground so hard you can't bury the dead
>So much artillery you have to shit in your own fighting position
>8,000 Japanese in a 500m by 400m area
>Everything needs to be manually handled from Amtracks
>People die from heatstroke
>People die from point blank artillery strikes
>People die from being shot on stretchers

I would say the New Guinea campaign during WW2.
Mountains, jungle, hostile cannibals and all done with 1940's tech.
>>31382501
Afghanistan is bad, but the jungles in Vietnam was probably worse

>Not much drinkable water due to a boneheaded logistics scheme involving converted oil drums that--surprise, surprise--failed to work
>The Japs have also poisoned most of the wells and springs on the island

Kiska islands? most soldiers died of exposure
I don't know, wet humid and hot jungle where you can't see much sounds worse.
asia/africa/italy?
>>31382884
And the average soldier being at 80k, in a war that's cost trillions. Throwing money at the problem may as well be US doctrine at this point. No they won't do it every time, but they had fun in Vietnam
>>31382501
What is Vietnam for $500 Alex?
WW2 Asian theatre
It's like a fucking video game
>frozen Alaskan islands

Nam was pretty awful, but a different kind of awful. Being soaked for days at a time is literally torture.
>>31382508
No wonder my grandfather and uncle were never the same afterwards.
How does Korea get mentioned only once!?
You're insane if you think Vietnam or Afghanistan was the worst environment the U.S. has fought in.
I mean fuck, just look at the Chosin Resivoir.
>cold
>really fucking cold
>like bodies freezing to the ground cold
>wet

Maybe not invafe countries that are thousands of millions of kilometers away from your borders? You know nothing of the country and you invade it like a bunch of retards. Just like the Russians invading there, these vodka drinkers were destroyed by a bunch of dirt farmers.
