Is breaking the last remnants of whatever idealism I used to have about Chicago/liberalism/multiculturalism.
Truth is, I used to be quite on the left politically. I'm a suburban kid, raised by good parents and went to nice suburban public education in a relatively stress free environment (its fucking Palatine, nothing happens out here). I received the nice full dose of left-leaning shit that gets pumped into you with public education, believing that wonderful garbage about how my generation would save the world and all the problems. That we could beat things like racism/sexism/homophobia and that everyone would be happy, and that anyone who didn't want that was just an angry redneck/racist/sexist/white devil. Then reality kicked in around the end of high school and when I started going to college. Over the last few years life slowly ground away the layers of bullshit that had surrounded me for years until I realized how much the world actually sucks and how my generation may very well lead America into a nosedive and I'm getting a front row fucking seat to all of it.
Despite all this I'm still going to be sad when I eventually leave Illinois. For all the corruption, niggery (can't apologize anymore, the black community needs to get their fucking shit together), high taxes, and general fuckery going on I did spend most of my life there and my family still lives there (I could try convincing everyone to leave, it probably wouldn't be too hard).
