It's legitimately one of the shittiest places I've ever had the displeasure of spending any significant amount of time in. The thing about New Orleans is that there's some really nice areas (generally old money/generations of families) with nice people, houses, schools (Tulane), etc., but then there's places like the 9th Ward.

If you managed to stay exclusively in the nice parts then it isn't too bad, but the shitty parts of the city far outnumber the nice, and the shitty people seep into the nice areas too and fuck shit up.

Then you have the entire Mardi Gras event, which is horrible if you're not entirely shitfaced (and as a cop it'd be even worse). The whole area is just piss and vomit and belligerent people so drunk they end up fighting themselves as much as other people. Then factor in niggers (their effect can clearly be seen by what they did to Baton Rouge when they fled Nola during Katrina).

Stay away is my advice: it's a place to visit, not a place to live.

If you're wanting to be in Louisiana or close to Nola, a lot of the suburbs that are a decent ways out of the city itself aren't bad at all (same goes for Baton Rouge). Most of the smaller towns and suburbs in Louisiana are perfectly fine with friendly people, but the main cities are trash.

It might be worth looking into police positions in the surrounding areas, or even a state trooper if you're wanting to go federal law enforcement.

Look for kevlar/nomex (both are aramide fiber) reinforced gloves for cut resistance.

For heat resistance, the same gloves but keep them dry. If your gloves get wet they will conduct heat to your hand. Your hand will get steam cooked.

Some guys (like me sometimes) buy kevlar butcher's gloves and wear them under a thin skinned leather glove.

Now it's up to you to look for the best price.
